FUNCTIONS OF A FAN CLOSER Modification FCA The fan coil in the FCA modification is controlled from the control panel. Operating instructions are supplied with the control panel. Modification FCA-R The fan coil in the FCA-R modification is equipped with an electronic card that receives infrared signals from the remote control (see above). The operating instructions are supplied with the FCA-R door closer. Signal Receiver (GLA-R) The optional GLA-R features an infrared control receiver, LED indicators and an auxiliary control unit (AUX) to start or stop the fan coil when the remote control is not available. 8 The remote control included with the GLA-R equipment allows you to set all operating parameters, which are also displayed on the liquid crystal display, which greatly simplifies the control process. The ultra remote control is powered by two R 03 AAA batteries with a voltage of 1.5 V. To set the operating parameters of the closer from the remote control, it must be directed towards the infrared signal receiver (located on the frame of the closer). If communication with the fan coil is established, a short beep sounds and the LEDs on the receiving unit begin to flash quickly. For stable signal exchange between the fan coil and the remote control there should be no obstacles such as pieces of furniture, curtains, etc. The maximum distance for receiving and transmitting signals is 7 m. Automatic mode If the remote control is set to AUTO mode or the fan coil is started from Using the AUX toggle switch of the GLA-R device in this mode, the microprocessor automatically selects the operating mode - cooling, heating or dehumidification - depending on the characteristics of the air in the room. The system also automatically sets the desired air temperature and fan speed. In particular, the necessary test operations include: measuring the insulation resistance of the electrical components of the system; checking the conductivity of grounding bars. Below are instructions for installation operations. However, some final decisions due to the specifics specific system, are left to the qualified personnel responsible for installing the equipment. It is prohibited to install fan coils in places where flammable gases, as well as acid or alkali vapors may be present in the air. Otherwise, damage to the aluminum and copper parts of the heat exchanger or internal parts of the closer made of plastic may occur. If possible, try to place the fan coil in the middle part of the room; in this case, thanks to adjustable air dampers, the air will be distributed most evenly throughout the room. When working for cooling, the best position of the air dampers is one that ensures layers of cooled air “stick” to the ceiling. Below, in Fig. 19 shows the optimal position of the deflector dampers corresponding to the heating modes (opening 20 o) and cooling (10 o). However, intermediate and fully closed damper positions are also possible. In the latter case, thanks to the special shape of the dampers, air still enters the room. Adjusting the air flow allows you to achieve optimal air distribution throughout the room. The fan coil should not be installed at a height exceeding three meters (see Fig. 8). 26

27 FCA series closers can be connected to a fresh air duct, as well as to a conditioned air supply system to an adjacent room. To interface with air ducts, a metal flange with a diameter of 100 mm is offered as additional equipment (coded KFA), which provides a tight connection to the polystyrene base of the closer. Installation instructions are included with the flange. CONNECTING CONNECTING CABLES AND PIPES The water circuit piping, drain piping and connecting cables are connected to the fan coil. Electrical installation work The fan coil is connected directly to the building's electrical network or to a separate power line. The FCA series cassette fan coils are powered from an alternating single-phase voltage of 230 V (± 10%) with a frequency of 50 Hz with a grounding bus. To protect against short circuit The power line must be equipped with a multi-pole thermal circuit breaker rated at 2 A and 250 V (IG), with a minimum distance between open contacts of 3 mm. Four-speed fan coils have several alternative connection patterns to the control panel depending on which three of the four possible speeds are selected. Connecting the pipelines of the water circulation circuit The connecting elements of the hydraulic circuit of the FCA fan coil have the following characteristics (see Fig. 2): - connection to the heated/cooled water main: 3/4"", gas, with internal thread, flat flange and sealing gasket; 27

28 - connection to the heated/cooled water main (models FCA 34, 44, 64): 1/2"", gas, hole with a flat flange and sealing gasket. Only the gaskets supplied with the fan coils may be used. For four pipe systems, the valve included in the accessory list (code VHA1) must be used. The valve is also supplied with gaskets and installation instructions. The inlet and outlet water pipelines must be of the same size, corresponding to the capacity of the system. To prevent heat loss and moisture condensation, pipelines must have thermal insulation. Connecting the drainage system In cooling mode, moisture from the air condenses inside the fan coil. To drain condensate, the drainage hole of the closer (having a diameter of 16 mm) must be connected to the drainage system. The hole (SCT, Fig. 12) provided in the polystyrene pan allows water to be completely drained from the fan coil housing, which can be useful during dismantling operations. During normal use, this hole should be closed with the plug made of rubber-like material included in the delivery. To prevent substances with an unpleasant odor from entering the room air, it is recommended to equip the drainage system with a siphon. The fan coil is equipped with a special level adjustment system that ensures the level of liquid in the drain pan required for draining. This system includes a switching unit, an electric pump and a float mechanism with a three-level sensor (three levels of liquid correspond to the commands for turning on the pump, turning off the pump and alarm). The power supply to the level control system is never turned off. If the float mechanism is in an alarm state (one hundred corresponds to a liquid level in the pan of 16 mm), the water supply to the heat exchanger stops, but air ventilation continues. The pan has a drain hole to prevent it from overflowing in the event of a failure of the level control system. In this case, water flows out drop by drop from the closer grille. The drainage pump ensures that water rises to a height of 80 cm relative to the level of the suspended ceiling (see Fig. 13). If this height is not enough, there is special additional equipment that ensures the operation of the drainage system at greater height differences. 28

29 In the drainage system, it is recommended to use a tube made of rigid material with thermal insulation to prevent moisture condensation on the surface of the tube. Connecting a fresh air duct An air duct that supplies fresh air from outside the room can be connected to the fan coil. For this purpose, use a special flange with a diameter of 100 mm (code designation KFA in the list of additional equipment). It connects to the corresponding hole in the closer (R in Fig. 2). The process of supplying fresh air to the room is described in more detail in one of the following sections of this manual. Connecting an air duct to supply conditioned air to an adjacent room You can connect an air duct to the fan coil to supply conditioned air to an adjacent room. INSTALLATION OPERATIONS Installation of the fan coil is carried out in the following order. Open the cardboard packaging of the fan coil and remove the packaging material that protects the fan coil from damage from the top side. Remove the polystyrene housing (Fig. 4). (The housing is not screwed to the closer.) Carefully remove the closer from the package. When lifting operations, do not apply force to the pipe connections (Fig. 5). For FCA-R models: remove the electronics unit by loosening the two screws (Fig. 6B). Remove the clamp attached to the closer body with four self-tapping screws (Fig. 7). 30 air and air supply to the adjacent room. These operations must be performed before installing the closer on the ceiling. Select the location for installing the fan coil, taking into account the configuration of the room, its architectural features and the total number of fan coils that are supposed to be installed in the room. Make sure that the selected location allows you to remove the ceiling panels that provide access to the closer, which is necessary for its installation and maintenance (Fig. 8). Install four mounting rods with M8 threads on the ceiling to which the closer frame is attached. Lift the fan coil by its brackets and, holding it in a slightly inclined position, secure the frame to the mounting rods using eight nuts, four of which are self-locking (Fig. 8). Alternately tightening the nuts, adjust the installation height of the closer. Make sure it is installed horizontally. Connect the pipelines of the water circulation circuit, located in the interceiling space, to the fan coil. Connect the pipelines in accordance with the provisions of these instructions. Connect the drainage pipe to the closer. Connect the drainage pipe in accordance with the provisions of these instructions. Connect the power line and control cable to the fan coil in accordance with the provisions of these instructions. Select three fan speeds from the four available. Connect the cables to the appropriate terminals and then proceed necessary connections in accordance with the attached electrical diagrams. If you intend to use an electronic control panel, ensure that the panel's microswitches are set to the correct settings for the system configuration. Align the corners of the closer with the corresponding corners of the body and attach the body to the heat exchanger brackets using bolts (Fig. 10). ATTENTION! The maximum tightening torque for the screws is 0.45 Nm. Do not use electric screwdrivers with uncalibrated force. Otherwise, mechanical damage to the drain pan may occur. Attach the clapper to the body, aligning it properly with the plane of the body (Fig. 12). For FCA-R models: secure the electronics unit inside the housing using two screws (Fig. 12). For FCA-R models: connect the existing connecting cables to the electronics unit (from the GLA-R infrared signal receiver, air temperature sensor, valve motor, electric heater and water temperature sensor, if equipped). Installing the GLA and GLA-R grilles (their use is mandatory) Open the packaging of the GLA and GLA-R grilles, the air exhaust system frame and the air intake unit (assembled); Remove the grilles from the packaging and make sure that they have not been damaged during transportation. Remove the air intake grille by turning the two fasteners a quarter turn. Open the sealed packaging of the electrostatic filter and insert it into the air intake grille according to the included instructions. To install the frame, align the hooks on the frame with the corresponding holders on the clamp and secure it with the four screws provided (Figure 14). Make sure that the frame is oriented correctly: the slot through which the AERMEC lettering is visible should be closer to the SCT hole. The frame guarantees hermetically sealed isolation of the air intake and the air supply system to the premises from each other, therefore, when installing it, it is necessary to ensure that it is not damaged, skewed or bent. For FCA-R models: connect the receiver connecting cable to the electronics unit connector (Fig. 15). Install the air intake grille, hanging it from the hinges on the frame; install safety wires. 31

38 MAINTENANCE During normal use Maintenance The operation of a fan coil boils down to periodic cleaning of the filter, for which it is necessary to remove it from the housing of the fan coil and then reinstall it in place. 40 SUPPLYING FRESH AIR TO THE ROOM Special openings available in the base of the fan coil housing allow connecting the fresh air supply duct and the air duct for supplying conditioned air to the adjacent room. The hole through which fresh air is supplied from outside the room is covered with a plastic cover that is easy to remove. To connect the air duct through which fresh air is supplied, a special flange is used (KFA in the list of additional equipment), which is attached to the plastic base of the closer with four supplied screws. The duct material must withstand temperatures up to 80 ° C for a long time. The duct can be flexible (made of polyester reinforced with a steel spiral) or rigid, made of corrugated aluminum. To prevent moisture condensation, it is necessary to provide thermal insulation of the air ducts, for which a fiberglass coating with a thickness of mm is used. Upon completion of installation operations, surfaces not yet covered with insulating material should also be insulated with 6 mm thick neoprene foam. To compensate for the pressure drop caused by an additional vent, duct, filter, etc., the fan must have sufficient capacity. During winter operation with outside air ventilation, it is recommended to install a thermostat to protect the system from freezing. Such a thermostat can be set to a temperature of 2 o C, and its sensitive element should be located near the pipeline that removes water from the fan coil. When the thermostat is activated, the additional fan should turn off. Fresh air consumption should not be more than 10% of the total volume of air entering the room. Otherwise, the performance of the fan coil may not be sufficient and the noise level may also increase. To prevent contamination of the heat exchanger by dust or fallen leaves, the external duct opening through which fresh air is supplied to the fan coil should be equipped with a mechanical filter that can be easily cleaned. In addition, a filter at the inlet end of the duct eliminates the need for a damper to close the duct during non-operating periods. 40

41 SUPPLYING CONDITIONED AIR TO THE NEXT ROOM To supply air to the adjacent room, it is necessary to block the outlet located at the base of the fan coil using the insulating tape supplied with the KFA flange. Once the hole is closed, install the KFA flange and secure it using the four supplied screws, then cut into the polystyrene base of the closer according to the marked outline and shape of the flange.
