Which is better: iPhone 7 or Samsung. Cost of devices and their evaluation

Samsung or Apple, iOS or Android? The confrontation between the two tech giants continues, and the release of the seventh generation of flagship smartphones has renewed the battle for customers with new strength. How gadget manufacturers are trying to attract potential buyers iPhone 7 and Samsung Galaxy S7? Let's try to compare the two flagships.

Display and body

The Galaxy 7 has a larger screen, measuring 5.1 inches, while its American competitor comes with a 4.7-inch display. Accordingly, the resolution is also higher on the Samsung flagship: 2560×1334(against 1334×750 at Apple). This certainly puts the S7 ahead.

However, iPhone settings so good that you won’t be able to notice the difference in pixel density with ordinary eyes. In addition, at Apple screen supports 3D Touch function.

Frame

Both gadgets can be purchased in one of four color options. Due to the glass coating, the Galaxy also has a glossy protective layer. The exterior of the iPhone is made of polished aluminum (“Jet Black”). Both phones stand up well to all sorts of tests, are durable and fit well in the hand.

Due to the strength characteristics of anodized aluminum, the body of an Apple smartphone is more practical.

Performance and autonomy

The South Korean manufacturer produces the S7 in two versions. A model with a 4-core series processor is available in China and the USA SnapDragon from Qualcomm, and for the rest of the world - “seven” with 8-core Exynos(Samsung's own development).

The heart of the seventh iPhone is the 4-core A9 processor, a proprietary creation of Apple. In performance tests - within a single core - the American smartphone is in the lead, but in terms of total indicators, both Galaxy S7 processors are ahead of it. In addition, the size of the Korean’s RAM is twice as large: 4 GB versus 2 for the iPhone. However, smartphones use different operating systems. At the same time, the Android system has long been famous for its resource intensity. In addition, its manufacturer, Google, is a third-party company for Samsung, which significantly reduces the possibility optimal settings gadget performance. While the iOS operating system is Apple’s own development and, moreover, much less power-hungry.

As a result, the performance of the two smartphones turns out to be comparable. The average user will definitely not notice the difference.

Autonomy

U iPhone battery is equal to 1960 mAh, while its competitor has 3000 mAh. Plus, the Korean smartphone has a fast charging option.

Main cameras

The iPhone Seven has a 12 megapixel camera. Compared to the previous generation of smartphone, it is 1.5 times faster, 30% less energy-consuming and capable of capturing 50% more light into its lens. In addition, the Apple camera is equipped with an LED flash and image stabilization.

The Samsung camera with a similar number of megapixels is also good: it works great in low light, stabilizes the image, and has many manual settings. Most experts consider South Korean technology to be the leader.

Price

Current cost of models:
Galaxy S7 – from 35,000 rubles;
iPhone 7 – from 47,000 rubles.

Bottom line

Taking into account all the characteristics and the starting price tag of the compared models, we can say that they are comparable to each other. If you are not an ardent Apple fan who is ready to overpay for a fashion brand, the optimal solution would be to choose a South Korean one Galaxy flagship S7. If you prefer the iOS system and the quality of the iPhone components seems higher, buy the 7th generation of the gadget from Apple - it is clearly in no way inferior to its competitor.

Just last week, Apple introduced its new flagships – iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Smartphones are already on sale in full in the United States and ten other countries, and pre-orders have just started in Russia. The average buyer will be wondering why it is necessary to buy the new iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus, and not any other smartphone. This comparison pits four devices against each other: iPhone 7 vs. Samsung Galaxy S7 and iPhone 7 Plus vs. Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.

Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge came out a little earlier than Apple devices. Many people praise their high-quality Amoled displays, long battery life and good cameras. So what happens if you compare gadgets from Apple and Samsung according to every available criterion? See below.

If you still don’t understand: in appearance, in many ways Galaxy specifications S7 outperforms iPhone 7. Samsung has a little bigger screen and the smartphone itself looks more massive, but it has more high quality images and more pixels. The iPhone has 3D Touch, which the Galaxy S7 doesn't have. Both smartphones have water and dust resistance and are approximately the same: Apple has an IP67 standard, while Samsung has an IP68 standard. Both devices offer approximately the same performance on a single battery charge (Samsung has a slight advantage). Also, both have NFC, only Apple uses the technology only for Apple Pay, which does not work in Russia, and Samsung has a full-fledged NFC sensor. Galaxy S7 is available in colors: Onyx Black, Silver Titanium, Gold Platinum, Pink Gold. iPhone 7 is available in colors: Silver, Gold, Space Gray, Rose Gold, Jet Black, Black.

Samsung Galaxy S7 vs iPhone 7: camera

The new dual camera is only available on the iPhone 7 Plus; the small iPhone 7 doesn't have it.

The big difference between the iPhone 7 and Galaxy S7 can be found in the camera specs. At a traditional event called Keynote, Apple showed off its iPhone 7 Plus with a special new dual camera.

It should give smartphone photos a visual similarity to photos taken with DSLR cameras and provide the ability to use both wide-angle and telephoto lenses.

The resolution of the new iPhone remains the same as before - 12 megapixels. Interestingly, the small iPhone 7 does not come with a dual camera. Instead, it offers an old but improved one with optical image stabilization.

Samsung company in production Galaxy cameras The S7 uses special Dual Pixel technology, known to us from Canon SLR cameras. It allows you to achieve autofocus speeds hitherto unprecedented for the mobile phone segment.

Appearance We find the photographs taken during the test tests to be really good. Especially in conditions poor lighting The 12-megapixel camera demonstrates the ability to take really very bright pictures with low noise levels.

This is largely due to the maximum open aperture setting - f1.7. However, it also entails such a disadvantage that the edges of the image turn out to be somewhat blurry. For experts, there is also a “professional” mode with the ability manual settings exposition.

Samsung Galaxy S7 vs iPhone 7: memory and performance

Tests will show whether the iPhone 7 can supplant the Galaxy S7

And with the release of the iPhone 7, Apple remained true to its credo: it will still be impossible to expand the built-in memory. But the Californians presented a version with an even larger amount of built-in storage, with a capacity of 256 GB. But Samsung, on the contrary, heard the criticism of S6 fans and began to reintegrate the memory card slot.

As for the differences or similarities in terms of performance, we can only make assumptions for now. Apple processor The A10 should have even better performance than its predecessor, which was also quite fast and handled iOS 10 quite well. Apps launched without any lag and the operating system ran smoothly.

However, there will be a slight difference with its predecessor, but compared to the Galaxy S7 it will be much smaller. Samsung has equipped its flagship with a powerful eight-core processor that runs operating system Android. During the test it worked absolutely without delay - however, what will happen with subsequent updates?

To summarize, we can say that in terms of “technical” performance, smartphones should be approximately at the same level. We look forward to the results of full testing!

Samsung Galaxy S7 vs iPhone 7: Other Differences

Often the primary focus when making a purchase is the camera, memory, and performance. But of course, such characteristics as design, Internet speed, display, as well as the presence of various functionality.

In terms of design, Apple has moved a little further, as its smartphone camera is no longer enclosed in a metal frame, but is finally recessed into the body. In addition, there are new body colors. Visually, the iPhone 7 looks even slightly sleeker than its predecessor, and we find the aluminum finish to be more plush than the S7's glass back. However, both devices are waterproof and offer LTE Cat 9, and the Galaxy S7 has a classic headphone jack.

In terms of display, we give the S7 a slight advantage. Although its screen is not pressure sensitive, it is more a high resolution and created using OLED technology.

About the fact that after an unsuccessful repair of the Galaxy S7, I decided to buy another smartphone. True, in the end the “seven” is ok, but I’m already tuned in to a new one. You understand how much you want a new product, especially since I’ve been using the S7 for more than a year - I’m tired of it.

So, the question arose - what to buy? There are many interesting smartphones. For those who choose, I have a detailed article. Personally, I didn’t want to experiment; I had enough last year. So I didn’t consider many options.

Choosing between the new Galaxy S8 and not this one new iPhone 7. Why Samsung? I was very pleased with its predecessor, the S7, and wasn’t even eager to change it - it suited everyone. Why iPhone? Because, as I have mentioned more than once, I am not a fan of any one mobile OS. I like both (well, let’s not talk about WP), each has its own advantages and I can use each with pleasure. Actually, for the purposes of both personal and professional interest, from time to time I migrate from Android to iOS.

As I mentioned, I almost lost my S7 due to its unfortunate fall (which, naturally, was caused by me being armless). So I developed a kind of phobia about falling. I didn’t want to pay a lot of money for a brand new flagship and break it. So there were the following arguments for the iPhone 7:

1. It doesn't have the edges of the screen as curved as the S8, so it's less likely to break if dropped. In addition, you can use cases with sides above the display.

2. Again, due to the risk of breaking, iPhones are cheaper to repair and, according to independent estimates, much more “repairable” compared to Samsungs.

3. iPhones lose less value, and I usually don’t carry one phone for a long time. Over time, it will be more profitable to sell and take something new.

4. What I already talked about - personal and professional interest. Experience for yourself the state of iOS today and how easy it is to switch to it from the ex-flagship to Android.

About the arguments for the S8 a little later, but first a little about why I didn’t rush to buy it right away. Firstly, when the S8 was announced, I didn’t experience any wild delight. Well, “”, but it looked somehow unusual. Even as an S7 owner, I was upset that they abandoned the key under the screen. Still, it’s convenient, especially to unlock the phone with a fingerprint. The scanner was moved from a button to back panel- where I can’t reach at all. Well, the strongly rounded edges somehow strained me, it seemed uncomfortable. Actually, at one time I didn’t buy the S7 edge for exactly this reason (well, it was also more expensive).

In general, having made a list of “pros” for the iPhone, I placed an order and went to pick up the phone the next day. And THANK GOD I was wrong. It turned out that they would deliver the device only the next day. It would be sad if I still bought it.

But because after leaving the store I went to the communication salon next door. The prices there were not at all attractive, but I wanted to admire the pipes.

I picked up the seventh iPhone and something fell in my soul. Yes Yes exactly . There was no desire to possess it. First of all, he's BORING. Well, seriously, Apple has been using the same design for years (since 2014). I had an iPhone 6 for a long time - and nothing new compared to it is interesting.

What also caught my eye was the quality of the screen. Let someone argue until they're blue in the face that it's impossible to tell the difference between 750x1334 and 1440x2960. But I SEE HER.

OS - here I always say “a matter of habit”. In my case, it's a matter of a couple of days, perhaps. But still after Android system seemed uncomfortable. For example, any “switcher” understands how the “back” button is missing at first. Or another little thing - I wanted to highlight a few photos, I tried to do it with a long “tap”, but it’s not so simple. First you need to click on the word “select” at the top of the screen, and then select. These seem like little things, but we need to rebuild. But, I repeat, this was not the main problem.

Next, I went to the S8 standing on the display case, took it in my hands and experienced... well, yes, a true wow factor (if not to say “orgasm”). Of course, I had seen it before, but in comparison with the iPhone, something “clicked.” Samsung looks great, thin, light, modern, fits great in the hand. The first feeling is that you are holding only the screen. The iPhone doesn't look right next to it.

And then I decided. After all, what did 50% of my arguments for buying an iPhone? That's right, because I'm afraid of breaking the Samsung. But why be afraid, it’s better not to break it. And buy what you like.

Photo - Android Central

So I canceled my iPhone purchase and ordered an S8. And here are the advantages for it:

1. Higher screen resolution and matrix quality - I personally see the difference. Well, the screen itself is larger than that of the iPhone, with a compact body size - thanks to the “bezel-less” design. By the way, the S8's screen is larger than that of the too gigantic (for my taste) iPhone 7 plus.

2. That same “wow factor”. The S8 looks awesome and feels great to hold.

3. Samsung was a little cheaper. But it wouldn’t be so important if I didn’t get MORE.

4. At the same (and even slightly lower) cost, I received a basic 64 GB of memory, and not 32 GB, as in the iPhone 7. You understand how important this is for the modern smartphone owner. I didn’t have the opportunity to overpay for an iPhone with 128 GB of memory. And Samsung also has a slot for memory cards, by the way.

5. Fast charging. It seems like a small thing, but it’s convenient if the phone is low and you need to run away somewhere soon. And there is also wireless charger, I don’t use it, but it’s probably important to someone.

6. What a bonus. I don’t know if this is the case in all markets, but when purchasing an S8/S8+, we provide an additional 2 years of warranty (three in total). And also a certificate for a free one-time replacement of the screen or battery. I heard that a friend in Russia bought it in the official Samsung store with the same bonuses.

I'm happy with the choice. The little things that worried me turned out to be insignificant. The rounded screen does not bother you at all. Instead of a fingerprint, I use an iris scanner. Regarding falls, I try not to drop them (and haven’t dropped them yet). I bought a lanyard for my neck (don’t laugh), if I use my phone on the go, I wear it. I don’t take out the phone in an inconvenient situation (well, for example, if all my hands are already busy, and I have to run to the bus stop). And I bought a couple of reliable cases (even if they spoil the sexy look of the phone, but safety is everything to us!). I plan to write a separate article about my impressions of using the Galaxy S8.
