What if the deleted email is ever needed again? In my practice, this has happened more than once - that is why I have kept letters since 1997. And, by the way, I really regret that when switching to Microsoft Office It was impossible for Outlook to convert the UUPC mail database into it (those who were in Relcom will understand). I didn’t think of saving it in the text. This is how my correspondence for three years perished. I still regret it.

3. Okay, I won’t delete the letters. But how can I navigate such a sea of ​​text? If anyone doesn’t know, Google today is the main search engine in the world. Therefore, they know a lot about something, and even about searching. Accordingly, their suggestion: if you need some old letter, find it. For this purpose, a convenient and simple search has been made by headings, addresses, names of authors and the texts of letters themselves. Finding any letter is a matter of one minute. In this regard, the folders that traditional email programs have accustomed us to do not exist in Gmail. We are not talking about the fact that all letters will be dumped in the Inbox folder. There is an Archive button that when clicked these letters are deleted from Inbox and moved to this very archive. Where they are stored forever - until one of them is needed. If you wish, you can delete letters - however, it makes sense to do this only when you are one hundred percent sure that the letter will not be needed. In all other cases - to the archive, you never know.

4. What to do with spam? Most of us receive buckets of spam every day. There are a huge number of anti-spam tools. I tried many of them myself - and now I have to say that I only breathed freely when I switched to Gmail. I don’t know how (you can probably search on the Internet to find out what kind of technology they use), but Gmail cuts off almost all the spam that I used to get. Moreover, there are very few false positives in this system. I personally look through the Spam folder that is there approximately once a week in order to find a maximum of two or three necessary letters in it. Everything else is really spam. Moreover, both Russian and English-language spam are cut off. I didn’t believe it myself for a long time, but it’s true. An additional bonus for participants of the “Classics” forum is that, as a rule, Yandex and Mail.Ru consider mail coming from the forum to be spam and do not allow it into user mailboxes. 6. I love working with mail in the email program. IN in this case will it work? It will work out. Mailboxes on Gmail can be checked both via the web and using email programs. Via POP3 and IMAP. Moreover, if you have the appropriate settings, mail that you downloaded to your computer through your mail program is automatically archived in Gmail inbox, as well as all the letters you sent. Thus, in addition to the archive on your local computer, if you keep it, the correspondence archive is automatically saved on Gmail. Thus, if you are at home, use your mail as usual. And if not (on tour or somewhere else) - everything, EVERYTHING!!! Your mail is still at arm's length.

7. Separately, I would like to mention such a colossally convenient feature of Gmail as dialogues. Something of this kind is also present in Microsoft Office Outlook, but it is not always convenient to use there, but in Gmail it is very conveniently done. It is especially useful if you participate in any mailing list - then on Gmail, not only can you safely store the entire archive of this mailing for your own convenience, but it is also convenient to navigate through it. What is it about. There is such a concept - a tree structure of correspondence. An example of such a structure can be seen, for example, in comments to posts in LiveJournal. Gmail uses some combination of this method plus some of their own developments that allow you to extract quotes from letters and compare them with other letters in the archive. In other words, if you correspond with me on a particular topic, in my Gmail inbox this correspondence is shown not as twenty separate letters, but as a neat stream: I can scroll up at any time and see what we talked about five letters ago. Naturally, you can disable this thing and go to the normal mode of viewing letters - but, believe me, once you realize how convenient it is, you no longer need any other modes.

8. Mobility. In order to be able to fully use Google mail, you need a decent browser. However, if you are on the road and the only digital device at hand is a mobile phone, then you can read mail. Just go to the address http://m.gmail.com and the wap version of Gmail will open. Actually, you can go to the usual address - http://www.gmail.com - Google itself will understand from which device they came to it and will automatically substitute the required version of the interface.

In summary, the main advantages of Gmail:

2. The ability to store an archive of correspondence for an unlimited time and have access to it anytime and from anywhere

The Google Account login window will appear.

In order to log in, you need to enter a number mobile phone or address Email specified during registration. But since you are not registered yet, click the More options link

From the options provided, select Create an account.

A page will open with a form that you must fill out.

We fill out the form.

  1. What is your name. Here I advise you to indicate your real First and Last Name. Because other Google services, including those on your smartphone, will be associated with this account. I think this will be your main inbox for a long time! If you need a temporary mailbox, then you can follow my tutorial in a few minutes.
  2. Create a username. This will be the name of your mailbox and login to your account. You will have to work hard to find a clear and memorable name. After all, names like olga, nina, ivan have been taken for a long time. Substitute names, and the system will tell you whether this name is occupied or free. To create a name, you can use letters of the Latin alphabet, numbers and dots.
  3. Create a password. The password must have at least eight characters. For security reasons, it is not recommended to use passwords from other sites.
  4. Confirm the password. To make sure you entered the password correctly, enter the password again. If the system displays that the passwords do not match, check whether the keyboard layout is set correctly. There must be Latin letters, not Russian.
  5. Date of Birth. Select from the drop-down list.
  6. Floor. Selected from the list.
  7. Mobile phone number - necessary for more reliable account protection. If important documents are stored in your mailbox, you can allow login to your account only after receiving an SMS with a password on your mobile phone. Also, if you forget your password, you can request an SMS with a code to change your password.
  8. A spare email address is necessary for more reliable account protection. For example, if suspicious activities are noticed in your account, the gmail administration will be able to send an alert to this address.
  9. Make Google mine home page. If you check this box, the Google search engine will always appear when you open the browser. But many users make their favorite site their home page. Then, you don’t need to check the box here, otherwise your page will be replaced with a Google page.
  10. A country. Select the country in which you currently live from the list.

After filling out the form, click Next.

The Privacy Policy and Terms of Use page opens. Read (scroll down the page) and click the “I Accept” button.


The "Verify your account" window will open. Enter your mobile phone number and click the "Continue" button.


A window will appear to enter the Confirmation Code, which will be sent to you via SMS. If the code does not arrive within 15 minutes, try again. I managed to complete the registration the third time. After entering the code, click the Continue button.


You will be congratulated on your successful registration and asked to log into your Gmail account. Click the "Go to Gmail service" button and start getting acquainted with your new mailbox.


You will see buttons by clicking on which you can select the theme (appearance) of your mail account, change (add) the main photo of your profile, import addresses and mail from another mail account. In the window that opens (Fig. 1), enter the Email or mobile phone number associated with your account and click Next. By the way, you can enter not the entire email address, but only the login - without @gmail.com

Sign in to other Google services

By registering with your email, you can use this username and password to log into any Google service.

While in your Gmail account, in the upper right corner, click the square (shown by the red arrow). A window with many buttons will open (see Figure 5). By clicking the desired button, you will be taken to the most popular Google services: Calendar, YouTube, Search, Maps.
