Indeed, people and the market are always wary of a new device. But if the buyer, when choosing his smartphone, has the opportunity to choose and think about which device to pay for, then the Finnish company does not have time to think. Five years ago, Nokia's top gadgets were the best, now, after the advent of Apple iPhone and many interesting models on Android, the situation has changed in a completely different direction. For the Russian consumer, the name of the Finnish brand still means a lot, but if you look around, chat with friends and acquaintances, it is not so easy to find people who have been using Nokia's novelties of the last couple of years.

And, of course, there were some bonuses - they were the wireless charging function and the ability to control the smartphone with gloves, which is especially important for countries with cold climates. At the same time, the device received latest version software, 1.5-GHz dual-core processor, 1 GB random access memory, graphics Adreno 225, as well as 32 GB of its own memory. As a result, after getting acquainted with the characteristics of the smartphone, many amateurs mobile devices, as well as market experts have awarded him a lot of positive epithets and responses.

Design
Nokia continues to play around with the same design cues that we first saw on the N9 smartphone. The models stand out from the general mass of similar devices, among which there are quite a lot of monoblocks of the same type.
The Finnish phone is distinguished by completely flat ends at the top and bottom of the case, it has rounded sides and an abundance of gloss. The case is comfortable to hold in the hand, at the same time, the smartphone slips out easily due to the glossy surface. In addition, such plastic scratches quickly; traces of using the device were noticeable on the white case at certain angles and lighting.
Another specific feature of the model is its weight. The smartphone turned out to be heavy and large, so before buying, we advise you to twist the gadget in the store, delve into the menu for 15-20 minutes to understand how comfortable it is to handle it.
The dimensions of the device are 130.3 x 70.8 x 10.7 mm, weight is 185 g.
Sometimes put in Samsung example Galaxy Note II, which has a similar weight. However, due to the fact that the Korean device is wider and larger, everything there feels differently, I did not really like the Nokia 920 in terms of ergonomics, the weight had to be reduced.

All buttons are comfortable, they are well pressed and well located. They can be found on the right side, where the volume rocker, the screen lock button, and the key to start the camera are located.
The headphone jack is located on the upper end exactly in the center, and to the left there is a mount for the microSIM, which is installed in a special tray and removed using a separate tool, you just won't be able to replace it so quickly.
Above the screen there will be holes for the earpiece, front camera and proximity and lighting sensors.
All management is entrusted to three touch buttons, which are located under the screen and are equipped not only with backlighting, but also with vibration feedback.
There is nothing behind, the surface is completely smooth and flat. In the center there is a ceramic insert, it is not scratched, unlike other models with the same design, where a metal plate is used. Flash holes are visible above it.
Screen
The display has become convex again, as it was in the first models. I don't see any minuses in such a solution, unless those who are used to sticking a film on a smartphone screen will be slightly disappointed, here it will not look very nice. Gorilla Glass, which is traditionally found in smartphones, protects the surface. I cannot say that the glass does not scratch at all, some marks still appeared on my sample. Due to the oleophobic coating, the screen is easy to clean, and it is easy to remove the marks after touching.
From the sensors there is a proximity sensor, as well as a brightness adjustment sensor. How is it done in Windows Phone, there is no slider for adjusting the backlight, only one of the brightness levels is set. The diagonal is 4.5 inches, the resolution is 768x1280 pixels, the pixel density is 337 PPI. Undoubtedly it better screen ever seen in Nokia smartphones.
The IPS-matrix, which is used in the display of this model, pleases with excellent viewing angles, natural color reproduction, which is typical for screens of this type. Lovers of deep black color Nokia Lumia The 920 is likely to be liked less than the Lumia 820, where the blacks are just perfect, although the shades are not so natural. In the examples Nokia 920 (center) is shown next to (left) and (right). Samsung has a "natural" screen mode, I use it in this mode, these are the colors I like the most. The pictures clearly show that Nokia is inferior to others in terms of viewing angles, below maximum level brightness. I would not say that this is the best screen on the market, just very good display... Of these three smartphones, I liked the picture of the Xperia V.
The feature of the phone is the ability to work with gloves. And here is a capacitive, and not resistive shield, where such a function is quite feasible. Personally, it was not very convenient for me to use a smartphone for correspondence, but it is quite convenient to perform such simple operations as answering a call or navigating through the menu. Often a number of such actions are required on the street, and it is unpleasant to take off gloves (at minus twenty!), Especially when you need to talk on the phone.
Filling
A dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8960 processor with a frequency of 1.5 GHz, Adreno 225 graphics is offered. The smartphone has 1 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory, no memory cards are provided. The smartphone works very quickly, there is just a lightning-fast reaction to all user actions. We could not feel any differences in speed from other devices on this platform, they are all equally productive.
Interface
The lock screen can be any user-defined image. Here you will see information about time and date. At the bottom of the event line, icons of new messages or calls will be displayed, if such are left without the user's attention. This also includes data on future events recorded in the calendar. This will indicate the number of notifications of each type. Now you can display additional data, for example, notifications from clients from social networks or the weather. Thus, application developers can significantly expand the user's freedom by supplementing their software with similar functions.
Above displays information about network connections... If the player is running, then the widget is controlled from here, which is responsible for the process of playing music. Also, this element will help you change the sound profile mode. For those who want to close the contents of the smartphone from prying eyes, a password request function is provided. The status bar at the top combines information about wireless connections and time. Data on new events does not fall here. In this case, most often this period disappears, the battery charge level is not visible. You need to touch the top of the screen to bring up this menu.
On the desktop, tile icons are arranged at the user's request. Their size is adjusted, the choice is made from three different formats, up to 4 labels are immediately added to one row, and not 2, as it was before. Animation is supported, for example the gallery icon will show something like a slide presentation. Real-time weather indication is displayed. As information about new events arrives, the corresponding icons appear on the icons. This is the number of new SMS, emails or missed calls. The list of shortcuts scrolls up and down, otherwise it does not move. The stupid black stripe that ate up a lot of space has disappeared, now the space is spent more logically.
The menu lists in alphabetical order all the programs that are installed on the phone. Get here as standard applications, and subsequently added by the owner of the device. There are two background options for the menu design: black or white, as well as a rich palette of multi-colored themes that allows you to quickly change the look of your smartphone.
Supported voice control smartphone to launch programs (for example, turn on an alarm or make a call). The Russian language is supported, which is great. While the functionality is rather limited, I think that the ability to control the voice will be actively developed and refined, so we will look at it in the future.
Contacts
The phone book is divided into three sections. The first one shows all the names that are in the device's memory. The second displays the ones that were used most often, these are the most popular contacts. The last column brings together news from social networks. Contacts are displayed in a list that allows you to see the image assigned to the subscriber. Full name and surname do not fit on one line. Above the list of names, about a quarter of the screen is occupied by the large section heading. On the side, a small area is occupied by a neighboring graph. The phone book is divided into small groups, above each of them a letter is highlighted in a bright color.
The settings specify the type of sorting of names and their display option. There are book filter settings. From here, you can remove data from social networks if they interfere. By holding your finger on the line with the name of the subscriber, this contact can be moved to the desktop, deleted or changed.
When creating a new user, different data is assigned to it. New user receives name, surname, patronymic, place of work, pseudonym, address, picture. It is assigned several phone numbers of different types: mobile, home, work, organization, pager, fax. Three types of email are defined. Additional fields are assigned to a contact: address, website, birthday, note, anniversary, loved one, children, office location, position. As a ringtone, not only one of the files in the phone's memory is installed, but also any other.
The search menu will help you find the right person. The phone allows you to create user groups, they will be separately highlighted before the general list of names. By adding users to each group, you will begin to follow the life of your friends, see their messages, pictures. Of course, you can write a letter, SMS or call them from here. The "Rooms" function has appeared, an example of a classic contact group, but with expanded functionality: it is easy to communicate with a limited circle of people here, exchanging pictures, calendar entries or notes. Moreover, this group includes not only users of WP-smartphones, but also the owners of other devices.
Calls
The telephone part is divided into four groups: the call log itself, dialing, phone book and search. The device does not know how to remember the section that was used for the last time. Thus, to dial a number, you will always need to perform an extra action associated with the transition from the call list to the virtual keyboard.
During the dialogue, information about the duration of the conversation is displayed on the screen, and before that, a picture will be displayed, if it has been assigned to the contact. Latin characters are displayed on the virtual keyboard, but they will not help when dialing a number. There is no automatic selection of matching numbers. The only assistant in this matter is the search option. Alternatively, later install a more functional application in order to expand the functionality of this important component.
The call list is very simple to organize. Here, the entire history of calls goes in a long line of numbers, it does not matter whether the numbers are the same or not - the phone does not know how to combine calls of the same type. The caller's name or number will be displayed if the data has not been saved in the phone's memory. In order to highlight the type of call (incoming or outgoing), multi-colored backlighting is used. If you select a number from the list, you will see the history of conversations with this subscriber.
Posts
The correspondence is formed in two sections. The first one consists of correspondence in the form of SMS and MMS, the other one consists of Facebook contacts. Messages are displayed in a column. If you open the chat window, messages will appear, which are divided into blocks. At the same time, incoming and outgoing SMS differ from each other in shades, which makes it easier to read. In addition, the date and time of receipt of the message, the number or name of the person with whom you are communicating are marked here.
When writing a message, you need to select a sender. You can simply type numbers on the line at the top of the screen, or select an existing contact. You cannot use previously used numbers. A text message automatically turns into a multimedia message if you add a picture or other data to it.
About half of the screen is allocated for the keyboard. A separate key is available to change the input language. Another special button stores many emoticons in memory. Copying and pasting of text are supported. The built-in auto-substitution of words works very well, it has a wide vocabulary, I liked it. Due to the large area reserved for virtual keys, it is convenient to type text. There are additional emoticons and fancy pictures that can be sent in messages.
The device offers a mailbox setup wizard that works with popular postal services, so that users of Gmail, Yandex or Mail.ru will not have any problems. Each account is assigned a name, the interval for checking the box is configured: push-mode, every 15, 30 or 60 minutes. Alternatively, you can check your mail manually. The deadline for loading the correspondence is set, the signature text is included, which will be displayed on the sent letter. Mailbox offers several headings-categories: all, unread, follow-up, important. The name of the sender is highlighted in large print, below the content of the letter is in small text. To the right, the time or date of receipt is indicated. New letters are highlighted in bright color.
By holding your finger on the line with the message, you can delete it, mark it as read, move it to another folder, or assign a mark. Incoming emails with an attachment will display a paperclip icon to help you understand that something has been added to the message. There is enough space on the screen for information about five letters. There are four icons at the bottom. The first allows you to create a new letter, the second is responsible for selecting several objects, the other allows you to check your mail. The latter opens the search menu inside the correspondence archive.
Opening the received letter, you will see information about the sender, time and date of receipt, as well as the content. With the help of multitouch, it is easy to scale the text to a convenient size. However, the text does not know how to adjust to the boundaries of the screen. The type of attachments is shown, the device allows you to download and view files of "office" types, but you cannot see where the document was uploaded. For clarity, unloaded attachments are displayed as a paperclip icon. Those that have already downloaded receive a different icon, corresponding to their familiar symbol on the computer - the icon Word file known to any user.
Calendar
The device offers a choice of several ways of displaying information. This is a day scheduled by the hour, a list of scheduled events or tasks displayed in a separate column. In addition, all data is displayed in the form of a regular monthly plan. It is important to note that in some squares something will be written, but it will not be possible to see it. The device allows you to use several calendars at the same time, each of them is highlighted in a different color. In the settings, you can change it by choosing one of the possible options.
When creating a new event, several fields are filled in: subject, location, calendar, time, duration. Additionally, a reminder is set, which is triggered at the start of the event, 5, 10, 15, 30, 60 minutes, 18 hours, one day, one week. A daily repeat is turned on, on every weekday, on every day of the week that coincides with the day the event was created, with every date that coincides with the date the event was created. Event attendees are added and will receive email notifications about the event. Also to new entry notes are created.
Browser
The browser allows you to simultaneously keep open up to six windows. The loading speed of resources is high, and the work of the application itself is also pleasing. It is fast, scrolling through even large sites occurs without delays. Unfortunately, the browser does not know how to adapt the scaled font to fit the screen borders. You have to navigate the page to see the hidden text.
The address bar is at the bottom, right under the fingers, which is very convenient. An icon for reloading the page is provided on the left, an additional menu opens on the right. This includes the history of visited pages and bookmarks. The required resources can be added directly to the desktop. In the application settings, you can disable the saving of cookies, select the view mode. This item allows you to activate the mobile or full version. The application is available in landscape or ported mode, the search for the desired words on the page works.
Music
The phone supports the formats.m4a, m4b, .mp3, .wma. The section with music and video is combined into a general group. It also includes podcasts, but there is no radio in this model. Another tab shows history. Latest list will show the new data that has been added to the phone. In each of the categories, except for the first one, the covers of files are displayed, all this looks very nice. The Music section will offer a list of files sorted by name depending on the selected criterion. The following options are offered: artists, albums, compositions, playlists, genres. If you click on one of the letters, then you can use the function quick search among the data.
When the song is playing, the cover of the file is displayed on the screen. At the top there are three standard player control keys. Below is information about the artist, album and track title. Below the song name are the names of the next two songs in small print. There is also information about the playing time and the total length of the song. However, there is no scroll bar rewind function, it does not work. To do this, you need to hold down the Forward or Back key to navigate to the desired area.
This turns on repeat mode for all songs or just one. There is a mixed playback mode. Also, the song you like can be noted separately. If you click on the volume control button, a small menu will open, where information about the track and buttons for moving between songs will be displayed. It is also available when the screen is locked, which is convenient.
The equalizer is placed in a separate section, so it is inconvenient to change the parameters, you won't be able to get there directly from the player. The smartphone has an emulation of surround sound, as well as a set of ready-made presets, among which are provided manual settings... There are no questions about the sound; with high-quality headphones, the smartphone will delight you with sound.
Nokia Music creates playlists that appear based on the music store. Genre lists are created, songs can be listened to, but an internet connection is required. This music can later be listened to again, the data is saved offline. Therefore, it is optimal to use Wi-Fi. The advantages of such an application include the ability to expand your horizons, I liked the selection of the composition. In addition, everything is very nicely decorated, it's nice to see.
Video
The advantages of the updated software include extended support for codecs, so that the smartphone will show many films after simply copying the data into its memory. There are three keys to control the player, as well as a scroll bar that helps you quickly navigate through the movie. At the same time, it is impossible to say that the phone is capable of playing everything in a row. Often times, a lot of videos have to be converted before they are dumped to the phone, as it used to be during the time of the mandatory use of the Zune.
Camera

Subsequently, various add-ons of this kind will be available in the store, there is every reason to believe that software developers will not miss the opportunity to make money on this.
The camera is of high quality, the pictures are good in various conditions, and even in the dark. This is an unattainable level for many smartphones, no one knows how to take pictures without the help of a flash. Even in complete darkness, the device is able to create a picture on which you can see what is located and where, while analogues, most likely, will save and show only a black background. On the other hand, if you look at the photos taken in daylight, then when you enlarge the picture, it is easy to notice that it is not very clear, the blurring is especially prominent on the left side. Either such an unsuccessful sample was caught, or the stabilization is working too hard, which affects the quality of the pictures.
 Gallery Pictures from the camera and other images fall into the general section. Pictures are sorted by albums, dates and people. This includes pictures from Facebook if you add your account to your smartphone. Data viewing is simple and convenient. The screen displays a matrix of folders or the icons contained in it 2x3 or 4x5, respectively.
When you select the item you want, it opens on the display. You can change the scale of the picture by multitouch or double-clicking. Any image can be set as the lock screen wallpaper, sent by MMS, email, posted to Facebook or Twitter, or uploaded to SkyDrive. Also, the image is added to the list of favorites, opens with the program for editing. The picture can also be transferred using applications, for example, uploaded to Twitter via an additional client.
An unnecessary file is deleted from here, while batch selection of several objects is impossible, each of them will have to be erased in turn. The face recognition function will allow you to tag people in the pictures. The photos are then uploaded to Facebook. An application for editing pictures is built in, it will allow you to apply various effects.
Watch Several alarms are stored in memory. Each of them is assigned a signal time, a repeat mode by days of the week. You can choose from melodies from the device memory. In addition, a name is assigned to the alarm.
The calculator offers all the necessary functions for making calculations. If you turn the device on its side, an additional settings menu opens.
Office The section includes applications that work with Word, Excel, Power Point and One Note. Accordingly, these are programs for text documents, tables, presentations and notes. The device allows not only viewing data on the screen, but creating new files of these types or editing existing ones. There are a lot of settings, it is unlikely that someone will manually create a large presentation, but it will be convenient to make adjustments to a text document. The document can be sent by email, uploaded to SkyDrive, or to Microsoft server SharePoint Server 2010.
Search The dedicated key is responsible for the Bing search engine. It opens when you click on this button and will search for data based on the given words. It is also assigned a Yandex or Google search. Navigation Nokia smartphone buyers get excellent navigation. Maps with excellent detail, street names in Russian. Profiles The device offers a single sound profile. It is not possible to configure multiple options for an alert. At the same time, the combination of sound in applications and alerts should be considered a significant drawback. For example, if you mute the music in the player, it will automatically decrease in volume for calls, SMS notifications, and an alarm clock. It is difficult to understand what caused this logic, but in practice this option is inconvenient.
Autonomy The capacity of the built-in non-replaceable battery is 2000 mAh. That's not much for a top-end device with big screen, which is why it is quite logical that you have to charge your smartphone most often twice a day, if you use it without limiting yourself. It is realistic to get even 1.5 days of work, but this is already the situation when social networks are minimally used, synchronization is turned on, a little internet, calls and music. If a smartphone is needed as a navigator - for example, during a vacation trip - then it will work from morning to evening, when the maps are launched periodically, and are not active in constant mode. As you can see, the numbers are more than ordinary, I cannot say that the device behaves better than analogs. I hope that over time, fresh software will improve the battery life, as it did with.
Nokia is focusing on wireless charging. It is not that wireless, because you still have to use a special accessory, which in turn will be connected to the outlet. So the length of the wire will be a definite limitation. However, the idea itself is interesting, for example, you do not need to connect a cable to your smartphone, you just need to put it on a stand. It is sold separately and costs about 2,500 rubles. There are also music speakers with the same function. Taking into account the fact that you have to buy this piece, it is not included in the kit, not everyone will be able to appreciate in practice the convenience of such a development. In my opinion, this idea will be one of the additions, without which the buyer can easily do without, the devices have not yet learned how to draw energy from the air, and the usual charger will always be included. But you can please the owner of the smartphone with such a gift, it should be borne in mind.
Impressions The smartphone offers very high-quality voice transmission, a loud ringer speaker, which is well audible in various environments. The vibration is rather weak, it is not always felt, the massiveness of the device itself affects. For the Finnish flagship they ask for 25,000 rubles, this is its recommended retail price. When it comes to choosing an expensive and functional smartphone, devices from different brands are taken for comparison. V in this case Nokia's rivals will be both, and Android smartphones from HTC, Sony, Samsung. Moreover, the latter manufacturer plans to launch its WP-device, ATIV S. Thus, the competition promises to be very active and fierce. What makes the top Nokia stand out? This is a camera, an abundance of proprietary services that are regularly updated and receive new functions. Besides, quality player, a sufficiently large amount of internal memory and the original ability to charge the phone. In any case, after getting to know the smartphone, one cannot say that all WP solutions are of the same type, Nokia 920 has something to look at. The option to control the device with gloves also cannot go unnoticed, no one else offers this in products of a similar level. Another question is how ready users are for the new operating system. According to sales statistics, the new product is much inferior to its competitors on Android, not to mention the Apple iPhone, which is traditionally in high demand among expensive smartphones. Not everyone is happy with the opportunities that Microsoft solutions provide against the background of the options offered by Android models. There are no advantages in terms of screens, performance, speed, cameras, autonomy. In fact, we get a new direction (although it is more than a year old, it is not that new), which goes in parallel with the rest, but cannot overtake. And here the question of choosing a smartphone from Nokia is decided either by personal sympathy or by active promotion of the product by the seller. At least today it cannot be said that the scope of qualities and characteristics of the new flagship is so interesting that you need to look at this particular model, and not at solutions on Android or iOS. It's good that there is a choice between different platforms, but I would now look towards other models.

The device should surprise consumers with several main things: a super sensitive display, optical stabilization during video recording, and also the ability to charge. wirelessly... It sounds beautiful and impressive, but can the designated "chips" really impress or, as Nokia likes to say, surprise users?

Smartphone Nokia Lumia 920 will get to the buyer with a very usual delivery set.
The quite tiny box contains the phone itself with a BP-4GW battery, a Nokia USB AC-16 charger, a Nokia CA-190CD USB cable, a Nokia WH-208 headset, and a user manual. As such, some may find a disappointing point here: the lack of a wireless charger. But it is understandable, because the cost of these new chargers is quite decent.
The company decided not to bother developing a new design for the device and dressed the Nokia Lumia 920 in the Nokia N9 body. True, there are, of course, some changes in appearance. Consider this solution as an advantage or a disadvantage? The question is really difficult. On the one hand, users are probably tired of the next clone of N9, on the other hand, it must be admitted that this design is amazing.
The body material is polycarbonate, and the keys and the insert for the camera are ceramic, that is, resistant to abrasion.
The black version of the device with a black convex display that merges with the body looks impressive. Feeling like there is nothing on the front panel but the screen. Other color schemes make a different impression. Of course, a serious adult businessman is unlikely to look solid with a yellow Lumia 920, but a girl, even a businesswoman, can perhaps afford to add yellow and red versions of the phone to her style. White is good for everyone and looks no less impressive than black. There will be no blue and gray on the Russian market in the near future, which is a pity, because the colors are beautiful too! We once wrote in our news feed, but we will repeat again that all colors, except gray and black, are glossy.
How the phone rests in your hand directly depends on your hand. For some, it will clearly seem like a shovel, the dimensions are quite large: 130.3x70.8x10.7 mm. For example, in the author's woman's hand the phone is very well positioned. It is convenient to use: fingers reach all keys and almost all areas of the screen. The lock and camera buttons are located in suitable places: it is convenient to remove the smartphone from the lock, call the camera application and then take a picture is also convenient. But for someone, the large weight of the novelty will be a disadvantage - 185 g. Feelings directly depend on what device you used earlier. For example, if you were the owner, then you will definitely not have negative emotions.
So on front side in addition to the large display, we see the touch soft keys familiar to WP-smartphones. Nokia logo, moved to the upper right corner, earpiece, light and proximity sensors, as well as a front camera. The company lettering and soft keys are shiny, they play beautifully in the light. Let's say right away that the 920 produces loud and high-quality sound through the earpiece, which is much better than the one in Nokia Lumia 800.

On bottom end there is an external speaker and microphone, as well as a microUSB connector for connecting a charger and a data cable.
The display of the Nokia Lumia 920, as we noted at the beginning, boasts incredible sensitivity. That is, the smartphone can be controlled using the good old resistive stylus, pen, pencil, keys, gloved hands, nails, etc. So we checked almost all the items at hand for the ability to act as a stylus. Even for this business, the nails were specially grown!
So, our perverse tests showed that the 4.5-inch screen of the device, made, by the way, using PureMotion HD + technology, and the touch soft keys really respond to pressing even the most incredible objects. Naturally, you are unlikely to be poking at the screen with anything you do not hit, but for girls, the ability to control the device with nails is just a fairy tale! In general, a pleasant plus. By the way, this supersensitivity function can be disabled in the settings: Settings - Display + Sensor - Display Sensitivity.
Further, it should be said about work in direct sunlight, which you will not find now in the afternoon with fire, as they say. Nevertheless, Mother Nature turned out to be favorable to us, and we were able to appreciate the beautiful picture under the bright sun.
As a result, we can say that the test was passed with a bang. You can safely take Nokia Lumia 920 with you to hot countries (our summer is not expected soon) - the information is perfectly readable. So, using, for example, Nokia maps in unfamiliar countries, you will not be annoyed that you cannot see the map under the sun. It will also be enjoyable to read books, surf the Internet on the beach, etc.
In this model, the display resolution is 1280x768 pixels, the ppi value is 332 (this is even more than in the iPhone 5), plus the ClearBlack technology is used. We also note that the display is convex and protected by Gorilla Glass 2.0. The clarity is excellent, the picture is saturated - you can see this from the pictures we took.
Since the case is monolithic, the battery in the device is non-removable. Its capacity is 2000 mAh. According to Nokia, one full charge will allow the smartphone to work in the talk mode (GSM network) for 17 hours, and in the standby mode - 400 hours. If the device operates in WCDMA networks, the user will be able to enjoy conversations for 10 hours. But this is a theory, but what is the real situation?
At the moment, in view of saving time to publish the review as quickly as possible, we cannot give specific numbers. We will update this paragraph in a day or two, when the Lumia 920 "asks for food."
Here we come close to the second "chip" of Nokia Lumia 920 - the ability to charge wirelessly. How it works: you need to put your smartphone on one of the wireless chargers and that's it, enjoy the charging process. True, first such an accessory must be purchased and, of course, connected to a power source.
During the presentation of new products on the Russian market, we were informed that cafes equipped with wireless chargers had already appeared in Moscow. And it's really convenient: you don't spend money on charging, go in for a cup of tea and calmly charge your smartphone at the same time, without thinking about wires and consumed electricity. True, it is possible that the service is included in the price of tea.
Supported networks
Since Lumia smartphones are targeting the American market, where LTE networks are in full swing, the new 820 and 920 models keep up with these networks and offer support. True, at present, 4G is poorly developed in the CIS countries, and its availability depends on the specific operator of the area in which you live.
In general, the smartphone is capable of operating in the networks GSM 850/900/1800/1900, WCDMA 850/900, 900/2100. For a short time of use, there were no questions in this aspect: the quality of the connection, the level of signal reception is in order.
Although Nokia Lumiya 920 can support memory cards, the developers have deprived the new product of the corresponding slot. This was done for one simple reason: there was nowhere to cram. At the same time, the amount of built-in memory is 32 GB, 29.12 GB of which is available to the user, and the operating memory is 1 GB. If this is not enough for you, the manufacturer offers cloud storage SkyDrive, which gives you 7 GB disk space free of charge.
Software platform
Models 820 and 920 are the first in the Nokia portfolio based on the new operating system Windows Phone 8. It will not be possible to describe all the new or changed points, but we would like to highlight the most significant ones.
The user interface has undergone changes, there is support for memory cards, support powerful processors and new screen resolutions, there was a Nursery, Rooms, Internet Explorer 10, over-the-air upgrade, advanced multitasking, NFC and more. We also note here that WP 7.5 apps are compatible with WP8.
The Nokia Lumia 920 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8960 dual-core 1.5GHz processor with Adreno 225 GPU.
User interface
WP is now more flexible with scalable live tiles (available in three sizes). Something important can be highlighted with large tiles, less necessary with the smallest. If you put small tiles in a row, a total of 4 pieces will fit. The dynamism of the desktop is convenient and pleasant - it is not boring, monochromatic, but really lively - in some tiles, information is updated online, some just constantly change the displayed content.
To change the size of a tile, you need to use a long tap on it, after which an arrow will appear to set the desired size. Such a solution allows not only to highlight, as we noted above, important applications but also easy to save space.
It's not for nothing that WP smartphones are called personalized. Everyone can customize the desktop solely for their own needs. If you are a fan of sports - add tiles on this topic, like to keep abreast of the latest events in the economic world - place tiles of the respective applications.
The arrow for going to the menu is now located in a different place: at the bottom of all tiles, due to which a lot of space on the screen has been freed up.
Also, changes have been made to the lock screen. Now it can display not only the date, time and day of the week, but also information about events in the calendar, the number of new letters, missed calls. The background can be selected manually from the collection of photos, or you can put Bing: then different beautiful images from the Bing collection will delight your eyes. Notifications are customizable, prompting you to select apps to open detailed and brief information... The former are made up of a calendar, messages, and a phone, while the latter are made up of games, messages, a phone, and an empty space. Five small icons fit on the screen. It looks like this: an icon and a number next to it, corresponding to the number of messages or, for example, missed calls.
The interface color options have been replenished with new shades, and now there are already twenty of them. In this case, there are two options for the background: dark and light.
Main menu
The main menu is a vertical list of applications and settings with a small icon to the left of the name.
If you have filled this list with more than 50 positions, an alphabetical index appears for convenience. Plus, in the menu, you can use the search, which is located in the upper left corner.
Virtual keyboard
The typing has remained almost the same as in WP 7.5, only a few keys have been swapped. At the same time, the set, which was convenient, remained the same.
Note that the function of suggesting the entered words has undergone changes and now works much more adequately. So text input should be even faster than before. We demonstrate the comparison in the photo:
Switching between letters and numbers on the keyboard is still carried out through the keys 1,2,3 and a, b, c.
Telephone service and messages
Contacts and calls
The "Contacts" and "Journal" tiles are initially installed on the desktop, which are filled with meaning after you synchronized your address book with your previous phone and install a SIM card.
When transferring contacts from Nokia N9 via bluetooth using the "Transfer my data" application, we encountered a problem: some characters were not recognized and turned into questions. At the same time, there were no problems with the synchronization of Nokia 808, Lumia 900. The list of our entries is written in alphabetical order, which is not surprising, while they are divided by letter. At the top we rise, that is, the owner of the device.
For us, a large tile has been selected that has a theme background or represents our snapshot. Click on "Me" and go to the settings of your profile, where we are invited to add a photo, open access (you can set up social networks to send messages and view responses), set the state. You can also place yourself on the desktop as a separate tile.
"To open access"brings up a list of offered services: Outlook, Hotmail, Nokia Account, Google, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedln, optional.
"Set state"- here we can select the status: online, busy, away, invisible. In general, it resembles the usual icq or skype clients.
At the bottom in the contacts section there are two buttons: add and search, and if you expand the bottom panel, an additional item " Settings", in which you can filter the list of contacts (hide those you do not want to see, but they will be available when searching), select to hide messages from filtered contacts, sort by first or last name, select the desired display option: First name Last name or Last name First name, - enable location tracking, set up accounts.
When adding a new contact, we can add his photo, write a name, phone number, mail, choose a ringtone. The "Additional" item allows you to expand the list of entered information, there is an address, website, birthday, anniversary, children, office location and more. It should be noted that all contacts are automatically synchronized with the cloud and this process cannot be disabled. However, if you really want to, there is a way out: it is enough to specify the local IP address (127.0.0.1) in the Microsoft account settings, in the "Server" item.
We visited the first "Contacts" tab. On the second one, titled "what's new", after setting up your account, you will see new information about your friends in social networks... Scrolling through the tabs to the right, we will see the third of them - "recent", where are those contacts with whom we have recently contacted.
The fourth tab contains the so-called "all together", where we discover something new - "Rooms". There are also "Groups" here. And if everything is clear with groups, then let's take a closer look at the rooms.
In the rooms, we can communicate with our family, friends, colleagues. Initially, a family room was added, but we can create new ones and invite people there, which will be the last to receive an SMS notification.
Rooms can be placed on the desktop so that it is convenient to contact the participants in the shortest possible time and read / view the latest information. Inside the rooms, participants can leave notes, take part in a chat, share plans from the calendar, add photos. But we didn't manage to change the picture of the room.
In the "Journal" we find all the calls made and received by us, moreover, the calls are not combined by contacts, that is, if our mother called us 10 times, we will see 10 lines in the list marked with the call time and its type (incoming, outgoing, missed) ... Here you can go to contacts, dialer, search, settings.
Note that now USSD requests are working properly, now you can copy phone numbers to the dialer. Also, the vibro deserves special attention, which simply cannot be overlooked. But there is a drawback in this: the vibration is so strong that it causes a rattling effect.
During a call, we can turn on the loudspeaker, put the call on hold, call the keyboard, call another subscriber, or mute the microphone.

By using this phone you can exchange short text messages. To do this, you need to go to contact or to the "Messages" application itself. In addition to typing, we can use the addition of multimedia files to our message: photo, video, voice note, - you can also send our location and contact.
When you send a location, you will receive a map with a corresponding mark on it. The Messages application itself is made up of conversations and those who are online. For the latter, you need to go to the chat and find out who is online. Here we can select our status (state).
The settings include items such as requesting a delivery report, sending an MMS confirmation, enabling / disabling group MMS, adding an MMS access point.
In the smartphone settings, among other things, there is an item "Voice functions"... To activate the service, you need to press the initial key (it is also the central one, start), and if desired, you can use it in the blocking mode. You can configure the reading of incoming SMS aloud: off, always on, bluetooth and headsets, bluetooth only and only wired headsets. There are two voices: male and female.
The service works very well, it is extremely convenient to use it while driving: it almost perfectly finds the right contact, calls him, read the messages that came. It can also be used to call applications such as alarms. If suddenly the assistant does not understand what you are saying, he will not admit it to you, but will politely answer that he has not heard anything. You even take a megaphone, but he still "will not hear anything."
What's more interesting: we can even dictate text, for example, for messages or text documents. But so far there is no support for the Russian language, although there is a promise that the moment will soon be corrected.
Connections
To get to the Wi-Fi section, you must first go to "Settings". If the module is enabled, we will see a list of points located nearby. By clicking on the desired one, we will see a list of settings: network name, proxy server, IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, DNS, MAC address.
During testing, we were unable to connect to the peer-to-peer network created by the laptop. Perhaps there was a mistake on our part.
Nokia Lumia 920 equipped with Bluetooth 3.1. And now the manufacturer has provided us with more options for using this module. So, we can not only connect wireless accessories, but also transfer data to other phones. It sounds nice, because many reproached the previous Lumii for the lack of the ability to exchange files via bluetooth.
Nevertheless, the newly minted owners of the 920 model note the limitations in data transfer using this protocol. We decided, of course, to check everything personally. Pictures, music files (wav, mp3), mp4 video file, zip-archive (automatically unpacked on Lumiya 920), txt, doc, docx files were transferred from and to Nokia 808 PureView without any problems. However, the aforementioned limitation, nevertheless, is: mp3-songs with DRM-protection are not transferred and setup files xap (moreover, the file was transferred to the Lumia 920, but, of course, it was not installed, and it was not possible to find it).
We also note that when working with the Luna Bluetooth headset, we had problems using the voice dialing function: it was activated every other time. What this may be connected with is not very clear, since other users do not observe a similar problem.
Like others modern models Nokia, Lumiya 920 Equipped with an NFC chip, allowing you to instantly connect to compatible devices. We checked the performance on the headset - everything works fine. By the way, the white headset looks very stylish with the white 920.
The microUSB connector is now located at the bottom. With it, you can connect a cable to your smartphone for synchronization with a computer, as well as the usual network or car charger. We will not judge the convenience of the solution, everything is subjective here.
Today, finally, you can connect your smartphone to your computer and copy movies, music, photos and other information without using the application. True, a smartphone is not defined as external storage, its contents can be found in "Computer" as a Portable Device. Of course, now everything is much more convenient than it was with previous Lumia models. We connected the device to a Windows 7 PC.
Another plus of the new platform is the ability to sync with iTunes. To implement it, you need to install special application allowing you to copy music, ringtones, videos, images from the Apple service. It would seem that everyone is super, former iPhone users should be happy. But no, there is a fly in the ointment here: DRM-protected files cannot be copied.
Navigation capabilities
Navigation from Nokia is getting better every day. So, more recently, the third version was updated Nokia Maps ... Let's start with them. At the bottom right there is an icon, clicking on which takes us to display modes: maps, satellite, public transport, traffic jams. There are three icons on the bottom panel: search, places and my places.
Additionally, routes are called, map loading, parameters, feedback, about the program, enter. With the search, everything is clear: we find the places of interest to us.
Clicking on "Places" brings up a list of nearby places different types: train stations, markets, restaurants, stadiums, cathedrals, etc.
Interesting and useful can be saved as favorites in "My places". Your recent searches are also located here.
"Routes" allow you to get from point A to point B in different ways: by your own two, by car, by public transport. We choose the starting point and ending, and then the method that you will use to achieve the result.
Point meaning "Download maps" understandable. You can download new ones or update existing ones. And here we again see an unpleasant picture: the download of maps is either reset, or paused when you go to another application or simply turn off the download. This is a sad moment, it would have been possible to correct this defect in so much time.
"Parameters" allow you to customize the service for yourself. You can turn the zoom slider on or off, use your location, show favorites on the map, sync favorites automatically. The system of measures familiar to the user is also selected here: metric, British, American.
Nokia Drive - car navigation service of the company. You can go to it, as before, from Maps. The launch of the application is accompanied by a search for our location. Then you can start the process of "getting" to the desired place.
Click on the functions and see the usual modes: 2D and 3D. We choose the desired one, then we decide on the destination. Here you can use the search, choose something from your favorites or from the last items.
"Options"are quite extensive. They will help you choose the color of the map, turn on landmarks, turn on speed limit warning, turn on the navigation voice, set the measurement system, and more.
The City Lens service, mentioned many times in our news feed, is present on, and it is called here Nokia City ... The app's main menu consists of eight tiles: Nearby, Food, Hotels, Shopping, Famous, Entertainment, Attractions, Transportation. There is a search.
V this annex you can see which places are located near you, while in landscape orientation they fly across the screen in the form of icons and names, and in portrait orientation they are presented as a list. Accordingly, by choosing a specific tile, you are taken to the places of the corresponding theme.
The app is very helpful. And it doesn't even matter whether you lead an active or passive lifestyle, whether you are in your hometown or in a foreign city. We go to cafes, stay in hotels, visit entertainment places, attractions, etc.
Mobile office
Setting up e-mail is carried out in "I" -> open access. If the list contains what we need, choose, no - go to additional. After filling in the fields, a tile for your box is automatically created on the desktop. This is convenient because you get quick access to it. If you need to create another box, go to Contacts -> Accounts-> Add Service.
The tile shows the number of new emails. The mailbox itself consists of all unread and important emails.
The bottom bar contains four icons: create, select, sync and search. Additionally, folders, settings and a new entry appear.
"Folders" allows you to view all the folders in your mailbox: drafts, sent, deleted, etc.
V "Settings" you can turn on or off conversations, signature, choose a light or dark background, and more.
Office programs

Created documents can be sent using NFC, Bluetooth or mail. However, for some reason, nothing happened with NFC.
One note is a note taking application. Here you can see personal and general notes, for convenience, there are recent notes.
When creating a note, we are asked to choose its title and content. You can set a task, arrange a list, add an image or sound recording, change the format. Also, notes can be placed on the desktop, sent to contacts.
Calendar
The calendar consists of the following sections: Day, Schedule, Tasks.
The day is divided into hours and can be viewed in the "month" mode. Choosing the desired hour, enter a note in the field.
When creating a new appointment, we can choose a topic, location, time, duration. Additionally, it is proposed to set a reminder, repeat it, add participants, a note, and also make the meeting hidden.
Alarm clocks
The alarm clock is simple: we add a new one by setting the time, repeat mode, sound and calling the signal.
If multiple alarms are configured, they will be displayed immediately upon entering the application. And when the smartphone is turned off, you can sleep through school or work: the alarm will not ring.

Many have already heard about this "chip", widely advertised by both companies. It is intended for children, who often harm the contents of the phone. How does it work?
You can find the settings for the "children's corner" in the settings of your smartphone. And here we need to choose what is accessible to children in the following sections: games, music, videos, applications.
Then you can set a password, after which the nursery will open. It looks like tiles with allowed apps, games, etc. And the nursery can be changed externally: giving it a name, choosing a photo, background, color of elements.
To exit the nursery, you need to press the power button. After that, you can unlock the device only with the entered password (if you have set it).

Working with images
All images can be found in the Photos app. The most beautiful, in your opinion, pictures can be added to favorites. The "What's New" tab displays photos of your friends.
The main menu contains photo disc, albums, date and people. In the first - the pictures taken by the camera. In this case, you can select several photos and apply one of the actions to them: move to favorites, delete, send, save to SkyDrive.
You can also customize SkyDrive to allow or disallow photos you have taken to sync to storage.
Music + Video
Hub Music + Video is represented by four tabs: collection, magazine, new and applications.
Collections includes music, videos, and podcasts. In this case, the music is divided into artists, albums, compositions, playlists and genres.
When listening to songs, we see three buttons on top: back, pause / play, forward. Below is the name of the artist and the album, the picture of the album, if any, below it - the total time of the song and the current listening, even lower - the name of the song. There are three icons to the right of the picture: favorites, shuffle, repeat. By the way, the name of the next two songs is written under the name of the composition, and you can also scroll the songs back and forth with a left-right swipe.
The speaker of the smartphone gives out very loud noise... The test showed that the volume level is 77.4dB, for comparison, the Nokia 808 has this figure equal to 83.8dB. It's difficult to talk about the sound quality of music in headphones, because everyone has their own concept of "beautiful". Nevertheless, we note from ourselves that the sound is clear and rich.
In "Video" all files are arranged according to the list. Watching movies on such a screen is, of course, a pleasure!
While viewing, you can tap on the screen, which will cause the keys forward, backward, pause, full screen mode, a line with a dot indicating at what point the viewing is in progress. The total time of the video and the time of the current viewing are also written.
If you paused a movie, a tile will appear in the "Collections" to remind you that you watched a movie. You can click on it and immediately continue watching. It's the same story with music.
However, everything is not very rosy here. It should be noted that not all video codecs are supported. However, WP8 allows you to install third-party players, so hopefully the list of supported codecs will increase in the future. Plus, we note that none of the existing mobile axes supports all existing codecs, the problem is solved by third-party software.
The "Journal" shows the last listened songs and watched movies. In "New" we see the novelties of our multimedia library.
From here we smoothly go to the application " Nokia Music", in which you can both listen to music for free, and pre-purchase it. In general, everything is as it was, about which you can read about in our previous reviews.
It sounds funny, of course, but the developers decided to deprive the Nokia Lumia 920 of FM radio. There is even nothing to say. There is only one way out - to enjoy listening to Internet radio. And it doesn't matter that not everyone has an unlimited tariff.

The impressions from the ambiguous, on the one hand, this is a stylish, high-quality smartphone, on which it is clear that they have worked. On the other hand, there are points that have not yet been corrected or added, and this is upsetting.
The device is large and heavy, I think if you drop it, it will not end well. It lies confidently in the palm of your hand, and the average fingers should reach all points of the screen and to the physical keys. The screen is simply stunning, stylishly rounded around the edges, incredibly clear with rich colors, and even finely written type is read wonderfully. Plus there is the ability to control nails, hands with gloves, which is really important for our geographical location.
The camera captures great video even when you are on the move: stabilization works great. Night shots are also good, the difference with other cameras, for example, with the pictures taken by Nokia Lumia 900, is very noticeable. better photos cameras Nokia 808 Pureview. Daytime shots really do not reach the proper level, let's hope that this will be corrected soon.
The wireless charging function distinguishes the new Nokia flagship from its competitors, but it cannot be called in demand yet. To use this kind of charging, you must first purchase it.
