When playing on a smartphone via wifi, the ping jumps. How to reduce high ping to a server or game

Probably the worst dream of any avid gamer is this high ping in Game. And how to lower it is one of the main questions in such a situation.
What are pings? This is the time it takes for a special ECHO packet to travel from the computer to the server. Online Games(World of Tanks, Warface, CS, etc.) and back. It's best to play when it's low. When the ping is high, playing is bad and everything slows down. If it is very big, it is impossible to play. Delays occur, which in the language of gamers are called “lags”. What can be done and what to do in this case?!
First you need to determine which ping is good, which is normal, and which is bad. Well, everything is simple here - the lower the indicator, the better. On average, a good ping is considered to be up to 30-40 milliseconds. From 40 ms. up to 100 ms., depending on the game, is considered normal. But above a hundred the indicator is considered bad. But here again, light and uncomplicated online games can work normally at high values (for example, the old “Contra”), while the same Dota or Warface will start to “lag” wildly.
There are two types of factors that affect response speed - which depend on your equipment and which depend on the provider. How to determine “Where to dig”?

From this trace you can immediately see that the problems begin immediately, already on the subscriber’s equipment, namely on the home router or modem:

And the following trace shows the appearance of significant delays on the 4th hop, that is, already on the provider’s side:

For reference, all points after the first, that is, after your equipment, are already the area of responsibility of your telecom operator.

If the problem is on your side:

First of all, eliminate any third-party load on the communication channel. You should not be surprised that the ping is high if at this time you are downloading two or three films from the Internet. Disable your torrent client and any other file sharing programs. Check to see if any application is downloading a large archive of updates.

The second thing that can significantly affect the response speed is a firewall, also known as a firewall. Try adding the game to the exceptions list to reduce the ping. For the sake of experimentation, you can try turning it off altogether and taking measurements.

If you have a router and are connected to it via WiFi, then try connecting via cable and see if there is a difference. The fact is that sometimes, for various reasons, the speed wireless network may drop significantly, causing the connection to become unstable and even packets may be lost. A cable connection can completely eliminate this scenario.

Also, sometimes placing the computer’s IP in a demilitarized DMZ zone in the router settings helps to reduce the ping a little. Thanks to this, most of the packets are sent directly to the computer, without being filtered by the router’s firewall.

Ping increases on the provider side:

If there are any problems on the side of your telecom operator, then in this case there are only two ways out to lower the ping in Warface, Worlds of Tanks or another game.

1. Communication with technical support
This path can only give results if the high ping starts already at the second or third step of the trace, that is, the reason is in the line or access equipment.
For example, if you are connected using ADSL technology, then it makes sense to submit a request to enable the special “Fast Mode” mode on the port. It disables the error correction mode, due to which the speed of passage increases slightly. But this will not reduce pings very much.

If you are connected via fiber optic (FTTB, GPON), then it is unlikely that you will be able to do anything at all. So all we have to do is wait. Perhaps this is caused by a malfunction of the network equipment and in the next couple of days the malfunction will be fixed and the ping will become normal.

2. Change provider
If the trace to the game server is very large (12 steps or more), then it makes sense to visit friends connected to other telecom operators and run the trace. Providers usually use different trunk channels and you can choose the one who has the shortest trace and the smallest ping. Most often, by the way, this is the only working way to reduce ping and achieve a high-quality and comfortable level of online gaming.

Question: Ping jumps to the router when WiFi is turned on

I bought a fresh Tenda N301 to replace the ASUS RT-N10 C1. ASUS has recently been showing freezes in games for 1-2 minutes (ping jumped to ~1200 and large packet losses ~80%). I thought that I would live right now, but no. Tenda also turned out to have quirks. Ping jumps even higher (~2660), packet loss varies (all packets are almost always lost) and every 2 minutes or 2 minutes and 15 seconds. Several wireless clients are connected to the router (iphone 4, ipad air, sumsung tab e tablet, prestigio tablet, xperia z1) and my desktop computer via the lan port. I started rummaging through the router settings. No use. I use PPPoE connection(indicate static IP) to VPN server, dns 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. I pinged to Google servers and various games, the ping jumps in the same intervals. Then I thought of making a ping to the router, it turned out that the ping on it was rising. I started experimenting. I turned off the computer, pinged from my xperia z1 phone, and the situation repeated itself. I turned on the computer again, thought to turn off wifi on the router, and the downloads disappeared. I turned on Wi-Fi, but connected only one phone and xperia z1 (that is, a computer on the lan port and a phone via wifi). I have already started monitoring applications that do something during surges, but to no avail. I tried disconnecting the phone and connecting the tablet, it didn’t work either (the jumps remained). Now I don’t know what to do. I'm coming to you for help. Thank you in advance!
The latest firmware is V5.07.63.1_ru_OST03, taken from the office. site.
I am attaching screenshots from PingPlotter (I learned about it in the tank format).
Some facts:
Router IP: 192.168.0.1
Network card on the computer: Qualcomm Atheros AR8151 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.20)
When connecting directly (without a router) there are no jumps
On the factory firmware (before the update) there were also jumps

Answer: Why does it die at fixed intervals? 2 minutes or 2 minutes and 15 seconds. This confuses me, what happens to the router every 2 minutes? How can these intervals be explained?

Question: The ping on the router is jumping

Hi all. I've been suffering for a month now, I don't know what the reason is. This whole thing started on March 1, before that it worked like clockwork for 5-7 years.
The point is this. The ping jumps from the router (WiFi) to the computer and other mobile devices.
Router D-Link dir 300. So, what did I do with it? Yes, that's all. I changed the firmware, changed channels from 1 to 12, changed Wireless mode 802.11 (everything, there is n/g/b) (n) (g/b), changed Mhz 20 only, 20/40 and alternated all this.
I bought a new one ASUS router RT-N12, and everything is the same on it, it worked fine for 1 day, and then it went away. Friends, I really don’t know what to do anymore. Please help me in this difficult matter. Thank you

Question: The ping from the Wi-Fi adapter to the Wi-Fi router jumps

Good day. Krch is a standard problem: Wi-Fi ping fluctuates.. TL-WR841N router, adapter connected to the computer, model D-link DWA-127..
Screenshots from "ping 192.168.0.1", to the router, that is:

Screenshots of Wi-Fi router settings:

Adapter parameters in Plug&Plays..:

Screenshots from Inssader:

Tried everything ABSOLUTELY!! Changing the channel, router power, selecting numbers for the beacon interval, RTS threshold, changing the key encryption, broadcast mode, channel width, channel number, remove/uncheck EVERYWHERE!! I changed the adapter parameters one by one, selecting a more stable mode... FUCK IT!!! I tried to use another adapter: NETGEAT WNA 150 - the same song, only it also turned off when it overheated (when working for about 10-15 minutes)... I had to reconnect it from port to port.. I connected both to USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 , the result is the same!! Reinstalling various drivers didn't help either.
I searched about 30 pages on Google and didn’t find ANYTHING that would solve my problem.. I gave up, this post is a cry from the heart.. I connect to the network from a beech phone - everything is fine, no ping surges. So I am 100% sure that the problem is only in the hardware connected to the computer. In particular - in the adapter. Clever guys with their channel changes, router replacements, driver reinstallations - FOREST!!! I’ll figure it out using your IP address, come and look you in the eye..)
Guys, help me out... I don’t know what to do anymore..
Oh yes, Windows 7 Ultimate "Pirate Editioin"..))

Here are better screenshots from Inssader:

And yes, the router is new, the DWA-127 adapter is also new... everything is fine with the Internet, it works fine via cable... But it is not possible to connect a cable to the computer permanently, so you need to solve the problem with the wireless connection...

I forgot to add - I also changed the router firmware..

The problem was partially solved by uninstalling the Viber program. Ping began to jump much less often.
Perhaps this is where we should dance.. Any suggestions?

Answer: Absolutely right - there is a bug in the Viber program. I have exactly the same problem, it was solved by removing Viber from the processes. Every 2-5 seconds the ping jumped to 2000ms. Although I was also looking for a problem, I changed the router and whistle. I changed the firmware in the router - everything is not the same. Everything turned out to be much simpler. I’ll write to support now.

Question: High ping to the router

Router - eci b-focus 0-4g2pw
External WiFi adapter- ASUS USB-N13 300Mbps 11n Wireless USB dongle
Windows 10
Wifi works like this: a router distributes in one room, receives an adapter through the wall and usb wire 5 meters away it will be transferred to a laptop.
From time to time there are ping spikes, and recently there have been interruptions in the Internet connection via Wifi.
Previously there was no problem, the drivers for the adapter were new, I reinstalled them.
I checked the ping to the router - sometimes it rises, sometimes it lasts for a long time and sometimes it stops. And it doesn’t matter how loaded the network is, maybe no one is consuming anything and there is ping, you can consume a lot and everything is fine.
The channels are clogged, but I changed them to others, but there was no effect, although the channels were clogged before, and everything was fine with the ping.
I didn't change any settings.
The network is encrypted, no one else connected.
Usually 2-5 devices are connected to wifi.
After rummaging around on the Internet, I found complaints about Viber, deleted them, it didn’t get any better.
I'm attaching screenshots.

Answer: everything is simply packed here

Question: Ping jumps and packets disappear

Good evening everyone, the problem is this: a wire with the Internet is connected to the laptop and Wi-Fi is distributed from it, everything is fine on the distributing laptop, but for those who are connected, the ping jumps, packets disappear, it is distributed through the command line Windows string 8.1

Question: Packets are constantly being lost. Ping to the router - 0%, to Google - 1-10%; Is the provider at fault?

Sent 1500 packages. I pinged 3 more different sites and 8.8.8.8, it jumps from 1-10% and on traces 1-2 stars opposite the provider’s host and in front of Rosnadzor in the Crimea. Both via cable and via wifi from different devices. Started 4 days ago.

Answer: HotBeer, apparently this means the percentage of packet loss.

Message from HotBeer

Regarding tracing, if the next node is responsible for the router, and then the problems are definitely problems of the provider.

Agree.

if the next node is responsible for the router

I would rephrase it. “if the node next to the router responds” (that is, the terminal port of the provider’s equipment)

Question: There is no Internet, who is to blame - the adapter, router or provider?

If you've heard about dancing with a tambourine, this is exactly what I'm doing at home, trying to restore the Internet. Here's an example: I have a utility on my computer that shows the graph of Internet downloads and distributions. As soon as my Internet disappears, I take my mobile phone, wake it up, launch WIFI and connect, VOILA, the Internet appears on my computer. Or a more durable method: press RESET on the modem and set the modem/WiFi settings completely from scratch. YOU CAN NOT DO IT THIS WAY!!! I tried to reinstall the firewood on the adapter (I have a plug-in PCI) and installed new firewood on the modem - zero - all the same. I have an ADSL CONNECTION, it seems to be unstable, but not to the same extent. The Internet comes to life when I connect to it via my mobile phone - WHAT IS THIS?? Windows changed both BEFORE AND AFTER the reinstallation - all this happened. WORTH A NOD and a firefall DRESSER. The MODEM is about 2-3 years old, but it’s true that it rarely turned off, count 2-3 years of continuous operation. The option is that I would stretch the cable and use it and not fool you _DO NOT SUGGEST! In general, please tell me WHAT MAY BE THE REASON. This happens very rarely: one time it doesn’t happen, one time it will be 10 seconds and another, 5-10-15 minutes. NO SPEED AT ALL, no page opens, torrents are loaded at a speed of 0.1-9 kb/sec

Every modern child who lives by playing video games, and adults too, has probably repeatedly encountered the concept of “ping”. It is also an integral part of the computer networks established by the master. Next, let's look in more detail at what this concept This means how to reduce ping in order to optimize gameplay or network performance.

What is ping and how to check it

Ping is the time period during which one information packet is transmitted from the client to the server and returned. By associating this process with real life, we can say that ping is like the time spent moving from home to the store and on the way back. The store is the server, and the person is the client. The unit of measurement is millisecond (ms).

To determine the Windows OS ping, simply enter the command line by entering the cmd command in the “Run” menu, which is called by the “WIN” + “R” key combination, or the search bar of the “Start” menu.

Then, you need to enter the “ping” command and, separated by a space, indicate the address of the remote machine/site to which the connection will be checked.

As you can see in the screenshot, the basic information allows you to see the average value and determine if there are sharp changes in it due to a poor connection.

How to reduce ping - current methods

There are a number of basic actions during which the user may have the idea that they should reduce the ping value regarding the connection to a particular server/site. Of course, this is necessary when it comes to playing online video games, where it greatly influences how the player's battle turns out. This may also be required when setting up a solid computer network, where you simply cannot do without a high-quality connection.

If it is excessively high or constantly “jumps” relative to any direction of the client connection to the server, then the problem may be the following:

  • Poor internet connection. It is corrected as follows: the method of connecting to the network is changed (the modem is changed to a direct cable connection or another), the provider is changed, if the low-quality connection is its fault, the tariff is updated to increase bandwidth channel allocated to the client.
  • Outdated driver network card. Everything is quite simple - you need to update it by downloading the necessary files from the manufacturer’s website or any other thematic resource.
  • Viruses, startup list, loaders. All of the above can have a negative impact on the speed of the network. Naturally, the system needs to be cleaned of viruses, the startup list must be adjusted, leaving only what is necessary, and bootloaders must be disabled during the game or any other actions related to connecting to a specific server. The latter especially applies to torrent clients, which, when downloading, can “clog” the entire Internet channel allocated to the user.

You can also make certain changes system registry, but you should do this with caution, remembering that the consequences of actions performed with the registry are sometimes quite difficult to correct.

By launching the registry with the “regedit” command, entered in the same paragraphs as for command line, you need to do the following:

Non-existing parameters can be created, but, again, we remind you that it is better to entrust such changes to a specialist who feels confident when setting up system registry configurations. All these actions will help reduce, but be careful.

How to reduce ping on a modem

People who use 3G modems to connect to the Internet are a separate category of users. The problem with working with such equipment is that they pick up signals from mobile towers of various operators, but this signal itself can be blocked by anything. All actions to improve the performance of a 3G modem and reduce ping require increasing the power of the device itself.

Experienced players and specialists working with such devices recommend the following methods of signal amplification:

Each of these actions will positively affect the speed of the Internet and significantly reduce the ping. You can check the connection level through the MDMA (Mobile Data Monitoring Application) application, which, after downloading and launching, will detect the connected modem (maybe not the first time), and then display the signal quality value in dbm units. Dynamic reading of information in real time with a delay of 5-30 seconds will allow you to determine the best place to place the modem.

How to reduce ping in games

Finally, we have come to the most important stage, since the decrease in online games worries users the most, because a poor Internet connection and other defects affect their success during battles. Let's look at making the necessary settings using the example of two very popular games: World Of Tanks and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

How to reduce ping in CS GO

When playing CS GO, you can change the ping using all the means described above, as well as by intelligently making changes to the launch parameters. To do this, you need to enter the game library of the STEAM platform and select CS GO from it. Further steps are shown in the screenshot.

In the window that opens, click “Set launch parameters” and enter the values shown in the screenshot in the line that appears.

Also, to start the competitive mode, it is recommended that the player set the game to the optimal ping so that it does not select servers for him that exceed a certain level, if this is, of course, possible. To do this, in the “Settings” – “Game Options” menu, you need to set the slider to the minimum value.

How to reduce ping in World Of Tanks

The peculiarity of World Of Tanks is that the game is played on large quantities servers, each of which is located regionally in different locations. Below is the geographical location of the main servers from the Russian cluster of the game.

You can control it by installing a special game modification or software, such as WOT Pinger.

By using this software you can track the most optimal servers for the game and use them exclusively.

Thus, we can conclude that ping has a significant impact on the performance of certain servers/sites. To reduce it, you can use any of the methods suggested above. You can also contact specialists who will make necessary settings into the system and specific applications, significantly speeding up the operation of the computer/laptop. It is recommended to order the same setting from the provider, where the user can be advised which high-speed Internet access tariff will be much more profitable for him.
