How to refill laser cartridges? Is it possible to refill Brother.

Remove the cover. Add toner. Close the lid. Insert back into the device. I must say that refilling the laser gun is not difficult at all. If you follow certain rules and don’t lose consciousness when hearing the words “screwdriver” and “pliers.” Because these are the tools you need to refill a laser printer cartridge yourself.

Laser printers are refilled with a special powder called toner.

All printers have different toners. The manufacturer usually indicates on toner bottles a list of models for which a particular powder is intended.

The toner is chemically very dangerous, you should use it carefully.

It is important to know whether the cartridge has a special chip that blocks the operation of the device after the consumable has exhausted its resource. If yes, then it is better to take it to a gas station.

Security measures

All components of toner for printing devices are very toxic. To avoid poisoning, before refilling a laser printer cartridge, you should wear rubber gloves, a robe or other clothing that you don’t mind.

Toner replacement should be done in a well-ventilated area. Since small particles of toner dust can even pass through a special gas mask. You can arm yourself with a respirator or gauze bandage. But they are unlikely to help if even the gas mask allows dust particles to pass through.

The table on which the laser printer cartridge will be refilled should be covered with newspaper or something similar.

What are cartridges made of?

There are two types of laser cartridges. Some have a special hole for pouring powder into the hopper, others do not. With such a model you will have to tinker in order to get to the toner compartment.

The print cartridge consists of two parts. The first is the dye hopper. The second is a container for collecting garbage and powder residues.

Replacing the toner in a cartridge is carried out in two stages: first cleaning the waste container, then refilling it.

How to clean a laser printer cartridge

Now you need to disassemble and clean the garbage container from dirt. To do this, use a screwdriver to unscrew the screws that secure the side plugs of the housing. Then carefully pull out the photosensitive drum. It is important not to grab it with your fingers by the main surface, but try to hold it on the sides or by the gear, otherwise the drum will deteriorate and will be unsuitable for subsequent use. After the photo roll is removed from the case, it is advisable to place it away from the main workspace, covering it with a newspaper or sheet of paper to prevent light and dust from entering.

Then you need to remove the charging shaft (rubberized part), which is located under the photosensitive drum. At the same time, remember that all parts must be taken by the side parts. Since damage to the surface of these parts will result in poor print quality.

Now we unscrew the cleaning blade, which is called a squeegee. And carefully, so that the remaining powder and debris do not fly around, turn over and shake out the container. We carefully clean all the parts from paint residues and put them back together. In filling workshops they use a special vacuum cleaner, with which they clean the entire body of the printing device.

Refilling the printer

The toner hopper is located in the second half of the print module. Most often, access to the refill hole is located on the side under a plastic cover. But there are cartridges whose design does not provide holes for filling in paint. In this case, you will have to completely unscrew the cartridge and pour toner into the slot through which it falls onto the magnetic roller. Sometimes a hole is made in the hopper and cartridges are refilled this way. Avoiding complete disassembly and cleaning the entire cartridge.

Having opened the cap of the magnetic hopper, take the toner purchased in advance at an office equipment store, and using a funnel or an A4 sheet rolled into it, pour the powder into the hopper. Do not fill the hopper completely, as this may cause the cartridge to jam. There should be one and a half to two centimeters left to the edge. Then close the lid, assemble both parts and insert the refilled cartridge into the device.

Nuances that you need to pay attention to when refilling toners yourself.

It often happens that cartridges laser printers equipped with a print counter chip. To refill them, you should contact specialists to reset the data in the chip’s memory or to replace it. Even if you manage to do all the dirty work at home, the printer will simply refuse to work, since “according to its calculations, the resource has already been used up.”

An important question is “How many times can a cartridge be refilled?” It all depends on the cartridge itself. On average, this amount ranges from 5 to 15 times. Moreover, during every 3–6 refueling it is necessary to perform a restoration. This is a procedure for replacing consumable parts that need to be replaced as they wear out.

In general, refilling is not such a difficult task. But you should take on this business only when you are confident that everything will work out. Otherwise, you will have to buy a new cartridge, and its cost is often comparable to the cost of the device itself. And all the expected savings from the “independent service” will come to naught. If you still have questions about how to refill a laser cartridge, we recommend that you read the instructions for refilling your particular model. To do this, go to the section.

MFC-5490CN, 5890CN, 6490CW

Attention!!! Do not allow the printer to remain idle for long periods of time with empty cartridges! This may cause ink residue to dry in the print head and block the nozzles. In this case, the printer will not print until you clean the print head!

To refill cartridges, use only ink that is suitable for them.

1.Prepare the necessary tools and materials for refilling: ink, a small screwdriver, a 10 ml syringe without a needle, napkins, rubber gloves.
2.To refill the cartridge, you will need to remove the cap. To do this, use the tip of a screwdriver to pry off the cover from both sides (photo 1).

3.Remove the cover by sliding it parallel to the body (photo 2).

Attention! In this case, 2 metal springs are released and fall out. Don't lose them, they will come in handy when assembling the cartridge.

4.Put the lid and springs aside (photo 3).

5. Wear rubber gloves. Fill the syringe with ink of the required type and color, remove the needle.
6.Press the vent valve pin with the index finger of your left hand to allow air to escape when refilling the cartridge.
7.Insert the tip of the ink syringe into the outlet of the cartridge and slowly inject the ink while holding down the air valve pin (Photo 4).
8. Refill ink until a drop of ink comes out through the vent valve.
9.Press the valve (remove your finger) and remove the syringe from the outlet.
10.To assemble the cartridge, install the springs on the special pins inside the cover (photo 5). Holding the spring cap vertically, place the rest of the ink tank onto it, making sure the springs snap into place (Photo 6).

11. Connect both parts of the cartridge until it clicks. Check that the lid is placed correctly on the body: press the lid - it should spring back. If the cover does not spring back, it means it is installed incorrectly; remove it as described above and reinstall it.
12. Install the cartridge into the printer and carry out the initial test cycle according to the printer maintenance instructions.
Note: The cartridge has an ink level float sensor, so the printer must detect that the cartridge is full.

On the eve of the new year 2015, a Japanese company Brother introduced to the world a series of monochrome printers with functionality that can satisfy the printing needs of any user - from the modest home to the demanding corporate. The line was presented by devices Brother HL-L2300D, L2340DW, L2360DNR, L2365DWR; DCP-L2500DR, L2520D, DCP-L2540DNR, L2560DWR; MFC-L2700DWR, L2720DWR, L2740DWR.

Toner cartridges used in the new line are traditionally divided into standard (1200 pages) and enlarged (2600 pages). “Starter” cartridges can be filled with 700 and 1200 print pages (with 5% toner coverage of an A4 print), depending on the device model.

To refill the “starter” cartridge, in addition to toner, you will also need a reset flag (to reset the printer counter). We will be using a kit consisting of a toner can, a flag with a spring, and a cap for the toner can. The reset flag is only needed for starter cartridge. In the future, you will only need a can of toner for refilling.

So let's get started.
Disassembling the cartridge begins with the side cover. Unscrew the screw that secures the side cover on the gear side.

Remove the side cover.

Under the cover we will see two white gears. We remove them one by one, freeing access to the toner hopper plug.

The hopper plug is sealed quite tightly. If you do not uncork it carefully, you can easily tear off the edges. Therefore, we open the plug slowly, prying at the edges with the flat slot of a screwdriver.

We pour out all the toner remaining in the hopper, and, if you have a toner vacuum cleaner, thoroughly vacuum the hopper from the inside. We are often asked - why throw out the remaining toner, why can’t you just add a new portion and continue printing? The answer is obvious: Brother cartridges do not have a separate compartment for collecting waste toner; All remaining toner after printing is returned to the same hopper, from which it again enters the printing path. Over the entire operating cycle of the cartridge, not only used toner accumulates in the hopper, but also paper dust, which, mixed with toner, forms dirt that is unsuitable for printing. Therefore, don’t be lazy and thoroughly clean the hopper of old toner. If you add a portion of new toner to an uncleaned cartridge, the result will be dirty printing and false assumptions about poor toner quality.

Let's return to disassembling the cartridge. We release the plug from the screw:

One by one remove the plug, the large white gear, then the small white gears:

We remove the lock washer of the developer roller (which is often called the magnetic shaft, although it is not magnetic by definition):

On the opposite side of the cartridge you need to remove the black bushing. It is secured with a screw from the outside

and has two toothed retainers, which we will carefully bend to remove the bushing:

The bushing consists of two parts that do not need to be separated. It will be better if we remove it “assembled”:

Now let's return to the guide sleeve on the side of the cartridge plug. It also has two toothed retainers that need to be taken into account when removing the bushing.

Now you can remove the developer roller from its seat. Immediately below the roller there is a dosing blade, which is secured with two screws at the edges. Unscrew these screws:

So we got to the niche of the toner bin. Inside the niche there is a foam toner supply roller. Carefully clean the dispenser roller of toner residues using a toner vacuum cleaner:

We draw your attention to the foam rubber seal around the perimeter. The fact is that it is not secured by anything, not glued to the body, and therefore we try to vacuum clean it so as not to pull it inside the vacuum cleaner:

We return the cleaned dispensing blade to its place and fix it with screws along the edges. We also return the cleaned magnetic shaft to its place.

We install the guide sleeve, fix the developer-roller axis with a locking ring:

Lubricate the opposite end of the shaft axis with conductive grease. As always, we apply a little lubricant, without excess. Install the bushing and tighten the fixing screw:

Now we can refill the cartridge with toner. We use 100 gram toner produced by Static Contr o l Components code B 2240-100 B - OS . This toner is sufficient to print 2600 pages (according to ISO/IEC 19798 standard).

After refilling the cartridge, tightly seal the hopper cap. Then install the white gears one by one. We install the gear tooth as shown in the photo:

We install the second gear and the reset flag on top. You will now see that the white gear tooth is located next to the inner tooth of the reset flag.

All that remains is to install the spring and cover the gears with the side cover. Pay attention to the correct starting position of the counter reset flag.

The cartridge is ready.

If you are interested in how to refill a Brother cartridge, then you should pay attention to some details. The design of the models may be slightly different, which determines the procedure. Therefore, the following two options need to be considered.

Operating a Printer with a Toner Cover

Refilling Brother cartridges is quite simple if the model is equipped with a special lid for working with filler. Therefore, the user needs to carry out a number of simple procedures:

  • — first disconnect the device from the network;
  • - prepare a work surface covered with paper or soft cloth;
  • - install on level ground printing device;
  • — open the special cap used when refilling the Brother cartridge;
  • — carefully pour in the toner, remembering that the filler is toxic.

If you spill the filler, you need to wipe it with a dry cloth; you cannot use water, especially hot water.

The figure below shows a plug that needs to be removed to get rid of any remaining toner.

Difficulties with Brother equipment

Some printer models may not have a dedicated toner cover. To do this, you need to disassemble the side of the device. After this, the shaft is carefully removed. Then you need to take an A4 sheet and make an imaginary tray out of it. It is inserted between the shaft and the squeegee.

Toner needs to be poured onto a sheet, this is how Brother cartridges are refilled. During the process, the sheet must be supported so that the toner falls into the device’s hopper. After the procedure is completed, a checkbox is set to reset the counter so that the data is reset to zero.

If refilling Brother cartridges is a difficult procedure for you, it is recommended that you contact

Please note that after installing the pendulum, the starter cartridge Brother TN will turn into a full-fledged TN-2275 with a print resource of 2600 pages (at 5% print coverage).

The Brother TN starter cartridge is typically filled with 700 pages of printing and runs out fairly quickly. It can be refilled for approximately 2,600 pages (at 5% coverage) using Static Control tonerB2240-100B-OS , cartridge for HL-2132/DCP-7057 can be refilled for 1000 pages(at 5% coverage) with Uninet toner.

First of all, you need to remove the protective warranty tape that is sealed on the toner bin lid:

Now you can open the hopper lid using a flathead screwdriver:

Empty the cartridge hopper of waste toner:

Using a Phillips screwdriver you can unscrew the screws:

Now remove one by one the two levers (holders) that secure the magnetic shaft of the cartridge:

After this, you can begin to remove the locks from the cartridge. It is convenient to remove the locks using a flat-head screwdriver:

Carefully remove all locks holding the magnetic shaft:

After all the locks have been removed, you can remove the magnetic shaft:

Use a toner vacuum cleaner to thoroughly clean the cartridge to remove any remaining toner. Be sure to carefully remove any toner from the edge of the dispensing blade.

After cleaning the toner, you can install the magnetic roller back, securing it with locks one by one:

Install the levers in their seats and secure with screws:

Now you can add a can of toner to the cartridge:

Close the lid of the toner hopper, take the cartridge in your hands and slightly rotate the magnetic shaft of the cartridge on both sides so as to evenly distribute the toner over its surface:

The cartridge is refilled. Now you need to install the pendulum. To do this, you can use either a kit with a ready-made side cover for TN2235/2275 or TN2090, or a “native” cartridge cover adapted for installing a flag.

In the pictures below we will show you how to make a side cover for a pendulum with your own hands (if you have a kit with a ready-made side cover, you can skip the instructions for making it and go directly to the part where the installation of the flag is shown).

Before drilling the seat for the flag, it would be advisable to get rid of the starting tooth on the cover:

Place the lid on the edge of the table and begin to carefully drill a hole for the pendulum:

Drill slowly so as not to accidentally damage the cover:

Install the spring as shown in the figure:

Pay attention to the positionbottom gear: the tooth should be set in the position shown in the photo below. The position of the cog also affects the page counter reset. In order for the counter to be reset, both the lower gear and the flag must be set correctly above her.

Place a pendulum on top of the spring:

After installing the flag, put on the drilled cover for fitting, since you will need to cut small grooves on the roof for the teeth of the flag:

The slits can be made with a regular stationery knife.:

The final step: place the cover in place and secure it with screws. Pay attention to the position of the flag's teeth - in the end they should stand exactly like this and no other way:

The cartridge is ready for use.

P. S.

The refilled cartridge with the pendulum should be installed in the turned on printer after all tests have passed and the printer is ready to install the cartridge. This is important because the cartridge pendulum must be firmly in “its” place, otherwise the gears will turn prematurely and throw the flag teeth into the wrong position.

Please note that the checkbox is installed one time on the cartridge. In the future, you just need to twist it to its original position. The cartridge refill process is not very complicated compared to typical laser cartridges HP, Canon, Samsung, Xerox . When refilling, it is very important to thoroughly clean the cartridge of old used toner, otherwise a dirty background may appear on the prints.

All MFP without chip It is beneficial to use with Brother TN2235/TN2275 and TN2090 cartridges due to the low cost of refilling the cartridge. The absence of chips made Brother printers so attractive to our consumers.
