This article describes how to find an apostrophe on a keyboard in various layouts: Russian, English or Ukrainian. The easiest way to do this is in the last two: a separate key is provided for these purposes. That is, you can enter this character without changing the keyboard layout. But in Russian there is also a simple and accessible solution. You can use the ASCII code to enter it. It is all these options that will be described within the framework of this article.
English layout
The apostrophe on the keyboard with this layout is on the same key as the Russian letter “e”. It is not so rare in English, and such a decision is more than justified. There is no need to remember a combination of symbols and use it as needed. It is enough only when such a layout is active (there should be a combination “En” in the lower right corner of the screen on the taskbar), just press the Russian “e”, which is located in the central row next to “Enter”, and after that “'” will appear in the open document .
Ukrainian version
The situation is similar in the Ukrainian language. It can even be found in the word “computer”. In this case, it is located on the same key as the Russian letter “ё” or the English letter (symbol ~). This is the answer to where the apostrophe is on the Ukrainian keyboard. But such use is provided only in the latest versions of the Windows operating system, starting with Vista. But in the earlier ones you had to use the “Ctrl” combination and at the same time you need to press the Russian “e” twice. It works on the latest versions of the OS, but it is more convenient to use a separate key.
Universal method
In Russian, the apostrophe is extremely rare. These are usually words of foreign origin. For example, the legendary hero of Dumas is D’Artagnan. In this case, we can offer three options for solving this problem. In the Russian keyboard layout there is no apostrophe on the keyboard. Therefore, you can briefly switch to English or Ukrainian to enter one “’”, and then return back. But this is not entirely convenient. It's easier to use ASCII code. To do this, immediately hold down “Alt” and then enter the digital code. In this case it is 039. We consistently dial 039 and get an apostrophe. Another method will be described a little further.
What about WORD?
In this case, you can use the text editor menu. Go to the “Insert” tab and find the “Symbol” field on it. We make a single click with the left mouse button on it. In the window that opens, by moving (using the navigation keys with arrows) through the set of characters, we find “’” and insert it by pressing “Enter”. After that, close the window and everything is ready. This is the last way to type an apostrophe on the keyboard. Not entirely convenient, but if you need to enter “’” once, you can use it.

Moreover, experienced people advise first pressing the NumLock button, but I succeeded both with the button pressed and without. This combination is shown in the illustration with blue circles, and the NumLock button is highlighted in pink, and on my keyboard it is located in a different place, to the right of the Backspace button, and I’ll emphasize once again - I don’t need it at all.

Another option is a keyboard shortcut Alt-0146. This combination works exactly the same way: hold down left Alt and type 0146 on the block of additional keys on the right side of the keyboard. How to put an apostrophe without a keyboard
If necessary, you can add an apostrophe without using the keyboard. If you type text in Microsoft Word, you can use the “Character” function for this. Go to the "Insert" tab, click on the "Symbol" button and select the "More Symbols" option.
As a result, a window will open with a list of available symbols. Here you need to select the “Punctuation Marks” section, highlight the apostrophe and click on the “Insert” button. This will place an apostrophe at the point in the document where the cursor is located.
