How to install Remix OS on your computer. Remix OS - full-fledged Android on a desktop computer How to install Remix OS on a second system

If you have installed Android on your PC and find it inconvenient to use, then this is not surprising, because Android was created for smartphones and tablets, not for PCs. But don’t rush to fold your arms. It’s better to try Remix OS, because in fact it’s the same Android, but adapted for PC.

Thanks to the fact that it was created on the basis Android-x86, you will be able to install and use applications for Android OS.

In this case you will receive the following advantages over regular Android OS:

1.Multi-window and multitasking. Unlike the Android OS, here each application will be located inside its own window, as in the Windows OS. In this case, all these applications will be active at once.

2.Task bar. Here you will have a taskbar familiar to desktop operating systems, where you will see icons of running applications. You can switch between applications by simply clicking on the desired icon.

3.Ease of use of mouse and keyboard. In Remix OS you can use the mouse and keyboard just like you do on desktop OSes.

4.File manager, with which you can work with files in the same way as on desktop systems.

5. Convenient tool screen capture with the possibility of cutting.

6.Regular OS Remix updates. With the OTA update program you will receive Latest updates operating system automatically.

Preparing to install Remix OS on your computer

After we have clarified the benefits that we will get after installing Remix OS on a computer, let's try to do it. First check your computer to see if it meets the requirements:

      • 2 GHz dual-core processor or better;
      • 2 GB random access memory or more;
      • Minimum 8 GB free space on the disk where the system will be installed;
      • Internet access is desirable.

If your computer meets the requirements, download the distribution from this page. There are 32- and 64-bit OS versions to choose from. When you click on the "Mirror Download" or "Torrent Download" button, a window will appear asking you to subscribe to receive updates (see below). You can enter your address here Email and click the “Subscribe” button to subscribe, or click the link below “I have subscribed, skip” to skip the subscription.

Here you will also be offered a coupon for the purchase of a Remix Mini mini-computer (see picture below) measuring only 12.4 x 8.8 x 2.6 cm at a discounted price of $49.99. You can see the characteristics. But I won't dwell on this computer any longer.

On next page you will be asked to select the server from which you will download the distribution.

Installing Remix OS on your computer

In total, the developers offer 2 installation options: on a computer and on a flash drive. Both options assume that you will install using a special utility that only works on Windows 7, 8 and 10. First, let's look at how to install Remix OS on a computer.

Unzip the archive you downloaded. For me this is the file Remix_OS_for_PC_Android_M_32bit_B2016081502.zip. As a result, I unpacked three files:

      • Remix_OS_for_PC_Android_M_32bit_B2016081502.iso – Remix OS disk image.

Make sure your computer has free logical drive from 8 GB for Remix OS. Run the installation utility (for me this is the file Remix_OS_for_PC_Installation_Tool-B2016080802.exe). Specify the file with the Remix OS disk image (for me it is C:\Remix_OS\Remix_OS_for_PC_Android_M_32bit_B2016081502.iso), select "Type" in the "Type" field HDD", and in the "Media" field - your free logical drive on which you want to install the operating system (for me it is drive E). Click OK.

If you have an older 32-bit processor, you will see this warning. In this case, just make sure you select the Remix 32-bit OS image and click OK.

If the logical drive you are installing Remix OS on is large, you will see a size selection dialog system disk. It is recommended to choose the largest size offered, because... in this case you will be able to install more applications. Click OK.

The process of installing the OS on the disk will begin.

Once everything is done, you will see a window as shown below. Click Restart Now.

First launch of Remix OS and initial setup

After installation and the first reboot of your computer, you will see a menu to select which operating system to boot. In fact, this menu will always appear after installing Remix OS on your computer. Select Remix OS here and press Enter.

The language selection screen will appear first after loading. For some reason, only English and Chinese languages(although I may be wrong). But let's not get upset. Select English here.

On the next screen, accept Terms of use by clicking Agree.

The next step is to set up WiFi right away. If your computer is connected to the Internet directly via network card, you can skip this setting by clicking "Skip" at the top of the screen. If you want to set up WiFi, then select your access point from the list.

After that, enter your password and click “Connect”.

The last step is the offer to immediately install some applications. Click here CONTINUE.

Then select applications and/or click "NEXT >".

Finally, confirm the installation of the application by clicking INSTALL.

And after installation, click on Finish.

The next step is that the system will prompt you to activate your account Google. Click Next.

That's it, the setup is complete. You will see the Remix OS desktop.

Installing Remix OS on a USB flash drive

After we looked at installing Remix OS on a computer, let's see how to install this OS on a flash drive. With a ready-made flash drive, you can move from computer to computer. In this case, all your documents installed applications, games and settings made will be saved on the flash drive. Those. your flash drive will be like a portable computer, but without system unit, monitor, keyboard and mouse, and to work with your OS you will need a donor computer.

Unzip the archive you downloaded. For me this is the file Remix_OS_for_PC_Android_M_64bit_B2016081502.zip. As a result, I unpacked three files:

      • Remix_OS_for_PC_Installation_Tool-B2016080802.exe – utility for installing Remix OS;
      • Remix_OS_for_PC_Android_M_64bit_B2016081502.iso – Remix OS disk image.
      • How_to_launch_Remix_OS_for_PC.txt – brief instructions in English.

Connect a flash drive of 8GB or larger to your computer. It is advisable to use a flash drive with a write speed of 20MB/s. Run the installation utility (for me this is the file Remix_OS_for_PC_Installation_Tool-B2016080802.exe). Specify the file with the Remix OS disk image (for me it is C:\Remix_OS\Remix_OS_for_PC_Android_M_64bit_B2016081502.iso), select "Type" in the "Type" field USB device", and in the "Media" field - your flash drive on which you want to install the operating system (for me it is drive G). Click OK.

You will see a warning that all data on the flash drive will be deleted. Click OK.

The rest of the installation is similar to installation on a computer. At the end, you will see a window informing you that Remix OS has been installed successfully. The flash drive is ready. You can click on the “Restart now” button if you want to use the flash drive immediately on the same computer, or click on the “Exit” button to close the program. When booting your computer from a prepared Remix OS flash drive, make sure that booting from a USB drive is enabled in the BIOS.

The first startup and setup of the computer when using a flash drive occurs in exactly the same way as when installing Remix OS on the computer.

Enabling Russian language and Russian keyboard layout in Remix OS

Now let's enable Russian language support. To do this, double-click on the Settings icon on the desktop and, in the window that pops up, find and click on the item “ Language & Input».

Here select the topmost item " Language».

And from the list select " Russian».

After this, the system interface will immediately become Russian, well, at least that part of Android that remained untouched by the Remix operating system.

To enable support for the Russian-language layout, find in the settings " Language and input" chapter " Physical keyboard" and click on the item " AT Translated Set 2 keyboard" (this may be the name of your physical keyboard, which is different from what you see in the picture).

In the window that appears, click on the button “ CUSTOMIZE KEYBOARD LAYOUTS».

Select the desired layouts from the list that opens (I chose English and Russian) and go back.

The Layouts dialog will display the layouts you have selected.

That's all the layouts are configured. Changing the layout using the key combination specified in the dialog CTRL + Space It didn’t work for me, but it worked with the help of a combination CTRL + ALT + Space.

I won’t write anything more about the Remix OS system. You can explore it yourself after installing it on your computer.

Bottom line

Well, the system turned out to be quite interesting. Here, indeed, such user interface elements appeared that were missing in Android for ordinary desktop PCs. But, unfortunately, the Android-x86 system is very capricious and may not work on any computer. This drawback is also inherited by the Remix OS system. Therefore, before installing it on your computer as permanent system, anyway, first try how it works from a flash drive. And check how they work Android applications that you actively use.

On January 12, what tens of thousands of users had been waiting for happened! Available for download online official version operating system Remix OS. For those who have not yet heard anything about it, let us explain that this is a version of Android that runs on personal computers and laptops Windows control, Linux or OS X.

Remix OS is perfectly adapted for working on a computer using a keyboard and mouse, supports multitasking and working in windowed mode, has a nice interface, a start menu, support for hotkeys, etc. But most importantly: it can run any Android applications from Google Play market!

At the start BIOS boot Press the F8 key to go to the system boot selection menu (from which device):

Please note: on some motherboards this may not be F8, but another button (this should be indicated in the manual motherboard or laptop). For example, for ASUS laptops this is the ESC button.

In the boot menu, select your flash drive, after which the following window will appear:

There are two Remix OS operating modes to choose from:

  1. Guest Mode – without saving data at the end of the session (all installed applications, settings made, etc. will be lost after finishing work)
  2. Resident Mode – installed applications, changed settings, created files, etc. are saved on the drive and will be available the next time the system starts.

Tip: select Resident Mode only if you have USB flash drive 3.0

A short video demonstrating how Remix OS looks and works on a regular Windows laptop:

You cannot enable the Russian language at startup, but you can select it later. Just go to the system settings along the path: Settings -> Language&Input -> Language.

True, not everything has been translated into Russian, but downloaded and installed applications work in Russian, which is a big plus. (Thanks to user Ruslan for the description this method in the comments to the article).

We look forward to your comments about how much this helped you. this instruction on installing Remix OS, how quickly everything worked out, and of course, your impressions of this system :)

P.S. According to information received from user Ruslan, the Russian language can still be set in the settings after starting the system (see comments to the article).

Android users appreciate this operating system for its simplicity and at the same time versatility. But imagine if it were possible to use Android as the main system for your computer or laptop. It would be nice to be able to download and install your favorite apps and games not on mobile devices, but on ordinary computers.

Question Android installations the computer is not new. The project has existed since 2009 Android-x86, whose developers are modifying the mobile OS for use on personal computers.

Android interface very convenient, but it is not intended for desktops. Therefore, even after installing this operating system on a computer using virtual machine, it is not very convenient to use.

To solve these problems, a new operating system based on the Android-x86 project was created, called Remix OS. This OS is based on the Android kernel, but works like familiar desktop operating systems: Windows, Linux, Mac OS, etc.

Remix OS– a free operating system developed by the company Jide Technology, which was founded by former Google employees. It is based on the version Android 5.1 Lollipop, which has been redesigned and expanded to provide features and a user interface similar to Windows. Remix OS includes the Start menu, taskbar, familiar windows with buttons (minimize, maximize, close) and, of course, is multitasking. It is also worth noting that the new system can be used in a portable version and be installed on USB drive.

Distinctive feature Remix OS is its undemanding nature system resources. The user interface is not overloaded with unnecessary elements. Therefore, if you have old computer or laptop, you can easily use the new system on older devices.

Now you can use the “mouse” as in Windows, i.e. double click, pressing right button, scrolling will perform the actions you are accustomed to. The built-in notification center, similar to Windows 10, will also be convenient.

Most applications and system tools can be found by clicking on the logo button Jide Technology, which is located in the lower left corner of the taskbar (similar to the " Start" in Windows). Here you will see shortcuts to main programs and settings, as well as a button to turn off or restart the computer.

Remix OS also has it built in by default file manager , reminiscent of Windows Explorer. Located on the left side panel navigation with the usual folders “Documents”, “Desktop”, “Downloads”, etc.

Because The operating system is multitasking, you can easily run several applications and freely switch between them.

Task bar Remix OS is also quite convenient and functional. The system tray contains icons for the clock, sound settings, network, and notification center, similar to the Windows tray.

Also, lovers of desktop systems will like the presence of familiar hotkeys:

  • Ctrl + N – create a new document;
  • Ctrl + S – save the document;
  • Alt + F4 – close the program;
  • Alt + Tab – switch between open programs;

Another interesting feature new system is hers portability. Those. you can install the operating system on a flash drive and use it on different computers.

Remix OS runs in 2 modes:

  • Guest
  • Resident

When working in guest mode the system does not save user data, documents and any changes to the OS. This mode can be used to test the operating system.

Resident mode on the contrary, it allows you to save all your data and programs. Using it, you can work with Remix OS as a full-featured operating system.

And now, if you wish, you can watch a video review of the system from the official Jide Technology channel on YouTube:

Where can I download Remix OS?

Remix OS is available for free download. To do this, go to the developers’ website (link below) and click the “ Free Download».

This will take you to a list of files to download. Place a check mark next to the item " I am a developer and have read the above message" and click the " Download" The list contains links to 2 archives depending on the type of download: Legacy And EFI. Legacy is compatible with most computers, so it is recommended to download this archive.

How to install Remix OS on a flash drive?

After downloading, unpack the resulting archive. It will contain an ISO image of the system and a tool for burning Remix OS to a USB drive.

For the operating system to function correctly, a USB drive with a file system is required FAT32, interface 3.0 , volume not less 8 GB and recommended recording speed 20 Mb/s and more.

Run Remixos OS USB Tool, specify the location of the ISO file, select the USB drive and click OK.

After the recording process is complete, you can try loading Remix OS. To do this, you need to restart the computer and boot from the flash drive, specifying the boot order in the BIOS or using the F8-12, Esc keys, depending on the manufacturer of the laptop or computer.

If you are unable to boot from a flash drive written using Remixos OS Usb Tool, use a program for burning ISO images to USB drives, such as UltraISO.

In conclusion, I would like to say that Remix OS is just beginning its journey, and like any other operating system it will have shortcomings, problems with hardware compatibility, etc. But the developers promise to regularly release updates to fix bugs and ensure proper system security.

Remix OS 3.0 system requirements:

  • dual core processor with clock frequency 2 GHz or better;
  • 2 GB RAM or more;
  • at least 8 GB of free disk space;
  • good access to the Internet.
Download links for Remix OS 3.0:
  • Remix OS 3.0.102 64-bit ( torrent, mirrors).
  • Remix OS 3.0.102 32-bit ( torrent, mirrors).

Installation next to Windows

The easiest way to install Remix OS 3.0 on a computer is to use the official utility for those who already have modern Windows on their computer. You perform all operations with your computer at your own peril and risk.

How to install:

  1. First, download the image you need from the link above (preferably by torrent). Unpack the downloaded archive into a folder on your computer.
  • In the “Type” column, leave “Hard disk”. In the “Media” column, by default, drive C or any other drive where your Windows is installed is selected. It's better to leave it as is. Click “OK”, select the preferred disk size for Remix OS and confirm the choice.
  • We wait for the installation to complete and reboot the computer. The program will immediately prompt you to restart your computer, which is what you need to do.
  • During a reboot, the computer will not immediately launch Windows, but will first offer you a choice between it and Remix OS.
  • The installation was successful.
  • Installation on a flash drive

    The developers also provide the opportunity to create a downloadable flash drive with Remix OS 3.0, which works like a LiveCD.

    How to do it:

    1. As in the previous instructions, download the image you need from the link above (preferably by torrent). Unpack the downloaded archive into a folder on your computer.
    2. Find and run the Remix_OS_for_PC_Installation_Tool.exe file.
    3. In the ISO File column, click on the “Browse” button and select the iso image file that is located in the same folder.
    4. In the “Type” column, select “USB Device”, and in the “Media” section - the label of the desired USB drive. Click “OK” and wait for the installation to complete. Reboot the computer.
  • During the first seconds of booting your computer, press the button to bring up the alternative boot menu (F12 on Dell, F9 on HP, F12 on Lenovo, Option Key on Mac).
  • In the window that appears, select your flash drive.
  • A menu will appear with two items - Resident Mode and Guest Mode. The first one stores the work data, but the second one does not. Launch the one you need.

  • Thus, you have created a LiveUSB flash drive with the Remix OS 3.0 operating system.
  • You can install the system on your computer directly from a flash drive:
    1. In the menu with two items Resident and Guest Mode, do not select any, but instead press the Tab button.
    2. Erase all the text that appears and enter the command /kernel initrd=/initrd.img root=/dev/ram0 androidboot.hardware=remix_x86_64 INSTALL=1 DEBUG=
    3. The installation program for a typical Linux distribution will start, where you need to select a partition and carry out a few more simple manipulations.
    4. As a result, Remix OS will be installed along with the Grub bootloader - it can also be used next to Windows.

    How to remove Remix OS 3.0 from your computer

    The Remix OS 3.0 operating system is very easy to remove from your computer if you installed it from Windows. It is enough to run the same utility that performed the installation. It will detect the system on the disk and offer to remove it.

    Hi all. I recently learned about operating system Remix OS, built on Android.

    Quite interesting system, optimized for laptops and PCs. Eat windowed mode, that is, you can open programs in windows, and not like in Android, in which you need to switch between them.

    Of course the system Remix OS still raw, I hope that they will bring it to mind. 🙂 For example, due to some games, the system freezes completely, only a reboot helps. Maybe this is due to application incompatibility, or maybe because of the windowed mode.

    Remix OS installed on a USB flash drive with USB 3.0 support and can be used from any PC, just boot from it, not from hard drive. The system also stores all data (downloaded applications, etc.) on a flash drive.

    Personally, I recorded the system on a 2.0 flash drive, the write and read speed of which is 25 - 20 MB / s - this is quite enough. And it won't load Remix OS from a flash drive with a write speed of less than 10 MB/s. So, you can try recording on 2.0, it will tell you whether the flash drive is suitable or not. 🙂

    Well, now let's get down to business and put Remix OS as a second system:
    1. We will need EasyBCD and EaseUS Partition Master, download them here TYK TYK
    3. Download the system itself from the official TYK website
    5. We pull out the file from the archive, or rather the system image.

    Using the EaseUS Partition Master program, we edit the partition from which we want to take at least 16GB.
    — Select the partition from which we want to take 16GB and click “Change/move partition”, reduce it so that the unallocated space remains 16 gigabytes

    — Now click on “unallocated” and create a partition, in “Name” we write REMIX OS, “ File system" - FAT32

    — Click “Apply” and get your 16GB partition.

    Now you need to extract the files from the image itself onto the created partition. This can be done using the 7-Zip or WinRAR archiver.

    Open EasyBCD, click “Add entry”: in the “Removable/external media” column - select the “ISO” tab, in the “Name” field write “REMIX OS”, in “Path” select the image of our system (from which we dropped the files into the section ) and click add. By the way, the image cannot be deleted or moved (the system will not start), so it is better to throw it into the created partition too.
