When will the new iOS 11.0 be released 3. Slide Over and Split View modes

betas typically follow a two-week schedule. Since iOS beta 3 was released on July 10th, it would be reasonable to assume that we can expect the next version to release around July 24th. It may come out a few days later or earlier.

Of course, iOS 11 should be approaching a point of stability where users don't see too many changes happening at this stage of development. Apple has likely analyzed the bug reports and made minor changes. But it's very rare to see a major new feature in beta, which is what we expect next week after the official release of iOS beta 4.
We did an article about that and the procedure will most likely be similar to the iOS 11 beta 4 version.

iOS 11 Beta 4 New icons

Apple has introduced new icons for the Contacts, Notes and Reminders app. Some of the app icons may be bugged for some people, showing certain details. For example, reminder cartridges are on the wrong side of the icon. This occurs because Apple inverts icons for languages that are read from right to left. Not left to right, and this should be fixed in a later version. All common and ways to solve them!

There's a new Contacts icon in the Settings app, while the Notes and Reminders icons in Settings remain unchanged.

Detailed review iOS 13.

A new generation operating system for iPhone and iPod touch, which was released on September 19 . What's new in iOS 13? Are there truly useful innovations? In this article, we analyzed iOS 13 in detail, found all the best features, including hidden ones, and did not forget to talk about the shortcomings. We present to your attention the most full review iOS 13.

What is the current version of iOS 13 right now?

What's new in iOS 13: overview of all innovations

Dark mode

The main innovation of iOS 13 is definitely the long-awaited one. dark interface mode.

Which iPhones work with dark mode? Let us immediately note that dark theme in iOS 13 works on all iPhones with support for the new operating system, and not only on models with OLED screens. We emphasize this point because there were fears that dark mode would only reach the latest models iPhone. Dark theme also works on iPad running iPadOS.

Where does dark theme work in iOS 13? The dark theme in iOS 13 works across all standard apps and across the entire interface. Apple also provided third party developers convenient tools for creating a dark mode in their applications. More and more applications are appearing in the App Store that support dark interface themes.

How to enable dark mode? The dark theme on iPhone can be turned on either manually in Settings and Control Center, or automatically according to a specified schedule.

iPhone slows down due to dark theme? Another popular question that arises among users. Mainly for those who turned on color inversion in iOS 12 and iOS 11, thereby making the interface dark but very laggy. Luckily, iOS 13 doesn't implement it that way. Dark mode works great. The interface looks cool, especially in the evenings and at night, and works very quickly. Tested on iPhone 7, iPhone X and iPhone XS. Doesn't lag anywhere.

Dynamic wallpaper, what is it? iOS 13 adds eight new wallpapers that you can download for your device at this link in maximum quality. However, they work best on the iPhone. The trick is that wallpaper changes automatically depending on whether the theme is enabled: dark or light. This happens as follows:

Coolness of innovation: 10 points. Everyone was waiting for a dark theme and it came. Beautiful, not slow and with dynamic wallpaper.

Updated Photos app

New Photos tab. In the next version iOS app"Photo" received most powerful update. First of all, the application appeared completely new inset"Photo", which allows you to view your media library in a completely new format. The tab has four buttons: “All Photos”, “Days”, “Months” and “Years”. As their names suggest, they allow you to view photos and videos over specific periods of time. By default, Live Photos and videos play automatically. If you don't like it, the feature can be disabled in the settings.

Albums are created using machine learning, which hides duplicate photos, screenshots, and even bad shots without adding them to your slideshow. This feature works great - no duplicates or screenshots were noticed when viewing albums. Searching through the gallery has become easier: you can now search for the desired frames using several keywords.

The new Photos tab will be a real discovery for owners of large photo collections. When viewing photos by month and year, iOS 13 will highlight significant events and places in separate slideshows. In this case, each slideshow is given its own name, for example, “Beach” or “Concert”. What's more, iPhone can recognize a performer at a concert and add their name directly to the album title, for example, "The Killers Live."

New photo editing. Built into the Photos app the image editor has become significantly more advanced. The editor in iOS 13 has received many tools for photo processing. You can change the warmth, color tones, sharpness, clarity, reduce noise, adjust shadows and much more.

Moreover, each tool does not work automatically as it pleases. The user is encouraged to adjust everything himself, and that's great! When you activate each tool, a scale like this appears, which allows you to process the image in detail. Before, there were definitely no such wide possibilities for processing photos on the iPhone..

But Apple developers have not forgotten about lovers of everything simplified. There is an “Auto” processing mode that improves the photo in every way available tools in automatic mode.

Flexible filters. With iOS 13, Apple definitely wanted to emphasize the importance of the user amid all this “artificial intelligence and machine learning” stuff. Even filters in the Photos app can now be customized. After selecting a filter, a scale appears, scrolling along which changes the intensity of the filter. A cool feature that allows you to achieve the perfect shot.

Video editing. The Photos app in iOS 13 has also become video editor. Directly from the application, you can adjust the video, apply filters to it, crop it, change the exposure and much more. Editing happens instantly, as is the case with photos. Any videos recorded on an iPhone are subject to processing. Even with 4K resolution and videos in slo-mo. And another nice option: all changes can be canceled with a few touches on the screen. The processed video can be returned to its original state at any time.

Coolness of innovation: 10 points. Now Photos has a really powerful editor, even more ways to admire photos, and even the ability to process videos. Great update!

Improvements to the Camera app

Augmented "Portrait". The Camera app in iOS 13 now offers flexible processing for photos taken in Portrait mode. You can change the intensity of the light, thereby changing the overall mood of the photo. New effects for portrait mode are also available to users.

Coolness of the innovation: 4 points. The improvements affected only portrait mode, which is not enough.

Increased privacy

A whole range of improvements. Apple has a serious privacy obsession. Some users are pleased with this, while others gradually begin to irritate. iOS 13 takes care of our privacy in many ways.

There is an option that allows you to block or allow an application to access the user's location. To do this, the application displays a pop-up window in which you need to make a choice:

  • allow location data to be used every time you use the application,
  • Allow location data to be used only once,
  • prohibit the use of data.

Everything would be fine, but every application issues such an alert. It starts to get annoying after the fifth time running application. This request cannot be disabled.

iOS 13 has also learned to send a notification if any application suddenly begins to determine the location of the iPhone; limit the provision of location data when connected via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi; and protect user fingerprints in Safari.

Coolness of the innovation: no rating. Apple has improved the security again, everything is as usual.

Login to sites using Apple ID

With the arrival of iOS 13, iPhone users now have the ability to log in to various sites when Apple help ID similar to authorization through Google and Facebook accounts. Special Sign in with Apple buttons will begin to appear on sites; when clicked, you will be able to securely log in to the site using your account. Apple entry ID.

The innovation sounds interesting, but how soon such “Login with Apple ID” buttons will actually start appearing on websites is unknown. We checked all the most popular Russian and foreign sites. At the time of writing this review, no “Sign in with Apple ID” buttons were found.

Coolness of the innovation: no rating. It’s difficult to evaluate the function yet, since it hasn’t really worked.

Home app and HomeKit

The HomeKit smart home platform has received advanced support for surveillance cameras. In HomeKit in iOS 13, you can add a surveillance camera and configure the transfer of video from it to iCloud storage. The video is transmitted over an encrypted channel and is stored in encrypted form. You can view surveillance video stored in iCloud directly in the Home app on iPhone.

Also, the Home application and the HomeKit platform began to support smart routers and speakers that support AirPlay 2. The Home application itself has updated some interface elements, in particular those responsible for managing connected devices.

An equally major innovation is the implementation of support for Siri shortcuts in the Home application. Now you can create a command, for example, to turn on the light of the desired color in a smart lamp or make coffee in a smart coffee maker directly from your iPhone.

Coolness of innovation: 6 points. Support for new device types, an improved application with a more user-friendly interface and support for Siri commands, which is perhaps the main thing. Nice update for HomeKit.

Siri and Commands

And just about “Teams”. The shortcuts app is now standard in iOS 13 and no longer requires an initial download from the App Store. It started suggesting different commands that the iPhone thought might work for it. But the main thing is that the number of possible commands has increased significantly, new types of commands and a lot of new settings have appeared.

Siri's voice in iOS 13 is no longer human for the first time. Apple has completely abandoned human pre-recorded commands. That's it Siri communication is generated by Apple's new text-to-voice technology. Thanks to this, Siri's voice has become much more natural. True, with a big reservation. All this concerns exclusively the voice of English-speaking Siri.

Russian-speaking Siri remains the same and, as before, responds clumsily to greetings with “Hello”, with the wrong accent.

In addition, Siri has learned to give more hints throughout the system, turn on the radio and read incoming messages aloud when the user uses wireless headphones AirPods. This makes it possible not to be distracted by messages.

Coolness of the innovation: 2 points. Only improved English language Siri.

Messages and iMessage

The iMessage messenger in iOS 13 has become even more similar to the popular instant messengers WhatsApp, Viber and Telegram. Now you can add your name and profile photo, which will be displayed to other users. Of course, there are settings that allow you not to show the photo and name to just anyone - Apple has provided for everything.

Main! Memoji - animated characters that were previously only available on iPhones with Face ID now work on all iPhones! The editor of these same memojis has become available to all users, and has become even more advanced. It introduced various new elements for creating memoji: more hairstyles, face types, piercings and even the ability to insert AirPods into the virtual character's ears.

Based on the memoji created by users, iOS 13 generates stickers, a whole set. They can be sent via iMessage.

Also in iOS 13, search has been improved, a new toolbar has appeared, and three new Animoji have been added (this is already for iPhone owners with Face ID): mouse, cow and octopus.

Coolness of innovation: 9 points. Thanks to Apple, all iPhone users now have the ability to create Memoji and then send automatically generated stickers based on them. Isn't this a miracle! And other improvements in iMessage are good.

New Reminders app

The standard Reminders app has been redesigned in iOS 13 to include reminder categories: Today, Scheduled, Flagged, and All. Thanks to this, users will be able to manage their to-do list more easily and efficiently.

But not only updated appearance I'm happy with the app. "Reminders" taught to send to the user text messages about important matters, better recognize human speech and work with Siri. And they also added the ability to create new to-do lists with the option of marking them with different colors and a toolbar for creating lists, adding attachments and others useful actions. The ability to add attachments to reminders is also new and very useful.

Coolness of the innovation: 10 points. The brand new Reminders app is definitely better than the old one. Moreover, in all respects, from design to the set of functions.

Improved keyboard, text and screenshot editing

The standard iPhone keyboard in iOS 13 has a new mode - QuickPath. It allows you to enter text with one finger, by swiping on the desired letters. It looks like this:

But QuickPath mode has a big disadvantage. As of iOS 13's release, it only supports a few languages: English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, and Simplified Chinese. Russian language support will appear only in the future. When exactly is unknown.

In iOS 13, much attention was paid to working with text. There is now an option to quickly select text. Now you can select one word and immediately drag to select a piece of text. Tapping with two fingers selects addresses, phone numbers and other contact information. In addition, it has become easier to move the cursor and scroll wheel.

Added new gestures for copying, cutting and pasting text. They came with iOS 13 with iPadOS, so they will only be convenient to use on large iPhones. This is all due to the fact that gestures are specific. To copy text, you need to select it and pinch it (pinch gesture) with three fingers. To insert text, drag it to the desired location with three fingers. To cut, pull together with three fingers twice.

Two more new gestures also use three fingers, but they are more convenient to use. A triple swipe with three fingers to the left cancels the previous action, a swipe with three fingers to the right repeats the previous action. You no longer need to shake your iPhone to undo an action. But just in case, we note that shaking still works.

And one more new gesture that allows you to quickly select a wide variety of objects. A simple two-finger tap on an object, such as a note, selects it. If you then drag, you will be able to select other objects. Very comfortably!

The redesigned menu for editing pictures and screenshots deserves special attention. Apple decided to return to skeuomorphism and changed the appearance of the markup tools. The marker, pencil, and ruler icons look like real-life stationery. By the way, now users can make and edit long screenshot without use third party applications.

Coolness of innovations: 8 points. New gestures and tools - very cool! But the new keyboard mode does not support the Russian language, and therefore for Russian users the keyboard essentially has not changed.

App Store

The built-in application store has been transformed. Apple has redrawn the user account page, adding a menu with updates. Another improvement concerns search. Its results now show programs for Apple Watch: you don’t have to dance with a tambourine to find and download them.

The App Store app now supports the new gaming service Apple Arcade, which will launch on September 20. The innovation is not at all impressive - as it should be. But, nevertheless, we note the new tab.

What's impressive is the new option that allows you to remove the terrible restriction on downloading applications from the App Store over a cellular network! Yes, now there are no restrictions! All you have to do is go to the settings and refuse to have any restrictions on downloading applications on the iPhone over 3G/4G. If desired, the restriction can be left. Which is useful, for example, when traveling to countries where Mobile Internet terribly expensive.

Coolness of innovations: 10 points. Just one improvement, but what one! No more stupid app download restrictions, hooray!

Mail app

The Mail app in iOS 13 introduces a series of small but welcome innovations. The search bar is displayed at the top of the page by default; it does not need to be called up by swiping down. The menu for replying to letters has become expanded. It appeared additional options: “Mark as read”, “Notify me” (notifies me of replies), “Move”, “Mute the thread” and others. Thanks to this, it became easier to understand each specific letter.

There's a new bar above the keyboard in Mail that lets you access a wide range of tools for adding photos, drawings and scans of documents. Directly from the application you can now design text of any complexity, including choosing a font! The developers also added an expanded menu of Haptic Touch gestures.

Other small improvements to the Mail app: more colors for email flags, the ability to block postal addresses and an updated convenient menu for selecting photos when sending.

Great update for Mail. Improved where necessary, added a lot of new features. Many users will definitely abandon third-party clients and switch to the standard email application.

Notes app

The Notes app has added a gallery view of notes, making it easy to view attachment thumbnails. Notes can now be organized into folders and subfolders - fans large quantity various recordings will definitely be appreciated. Any folder can be shared with other users - this is also a new option.

Searching for notes in the application has become advanced. You can search by shared and locked notes, posts with checklists, or attachments. In general, you will definitely be able to find the desired entry.

Coolness of innovations: 8 points. Big update for Notes. And every new option is really useful, especially subfolders and updated search.

Health app

There's a lot going on in the Health app. This new page with an overview of activity and health indicators over various periods, improved support for third-party applications with the ability to create interactive graphs based on the data they provide, interactive chats in the Health application itself and search!

“Health” has also learned to monitor the hearing health of users. The application will tell you if you are often in noisy rooms or listen to music at full volume. But women will be most excited about the app update in iOS 13. An advanced menstrual cycle tracker has appeared for them. With charts, notifications and fertility window prediction.

Coolness of innovations: 8 points. Powerful update! And the interface has become fresher, and new functions have appeared. Women will be absolutely delighted.

Safari

Safari on iPhone running iOS 13 has a lot of new features! It all starts with home page browser, which now displays sites from your favorites, frequently visited and recently visited sites.

Safari also offers Siri recommendations based on the sites you visit frequently. In addition, the browser was taught to save all open tabs to favorites and open them with one touch on the screen. This is convenient if you don't want to lose important pages.

But perhaps the most important update to Safari is a full-fledged download manager! Yes, now files downloaded via Safari are no longer asked to be opened in other applications first; they remain in Safari. For example, you can download a song and immediately listen to it directly from the browser. However, let’s immediately cool the dust. The famous iPhone restrictions remain. For example, you cannot download a song and add it to your library or set it as a ringtone. But we will still look for workarounds.

Coolness of innovations: 9 points. In iOS 13, we got not only a dark theme, but also a download manager in Safari! Other innovations are also very pleasant.

Files app

“Files” has been especially transformed in iPadOS, the new operating system for iPad. In iOS 13 for iPhone, they received only some of the improvements, but, fortunately, the most important ones. You can create folders and view file metadata right on the device. There are “Downloads” folders from Safari, a folder for quickly sharing files via iCloud Drive and its own document scanner.

But this is not the main thing. You can now connect USB flash drives, SD memory cards, and even to your iPhone. external drives! Yes, all this will be freely displayed in the Files application, files on external media it will be possible to manage. Moreover, you can also connect a camera to your iPhone, from which you can download photos for processing or just for viewing. And one more bonus. In the Files app in iOS 13, you can zip files and unzip archives!

The Files app before iOS 13 could hardly be called file manager. Now you can!

The menu for sending files to iPhone has become more advanced. First of all, it simply opens faster. We wanted to chalk up the speedup to iOS 13's performance improvements, but Apple said the menus were being sped up in a targeted manner.

Coolness of innovations: 7 points. Nice update to a menu that is used so often. I especially liked the increased startup speed.

User-selectable fonts

iOS 13 allows users to download their own fonts and use them in their favorite apps. A custom font collection can be managed directly in the settings. Apple has made sure that users don't have to download fonts from dubious sources, they will appear directly in the App Store!

Even more opportunities to personalize the operating system for users!

Books app

The Books app now has a feature that motivates you to read more. It works simply - the user is asked to read for five minutes a day, no less. This is monitored by a special timer. You can subsequently share your progress with friends. If five minutes a day is not enough, the user independently sets another limit.

Apple also changed the design of the application. It now has new fonts and animations, as well as a “Reading Now” list. In general, the interface has become more convenient and understandable.

Coolness of innovation: 7 points. Apple has successfully redesigned the Books app. Now it will help users read more.

Calendar app

There is only one new thing in the Calendar. You can now add attachments to events! Adding even relatively large files is quick and easy.

Coolness of innovation: 8 points. We've been waiting for this opportunity for a long time!

New Find My app

In iOS 13, the two merged standard applications in one. The Find iPhone and Find Friends applications have become one and are called Find My. First of all, the application includes all the functionality of the two older applications. You can quickly track the position of devices and friends or family members.

The key innovation of the application is that it allows you to search for devices that do not have an Internet connection! That is, if you lost your iPhone, you can find it even if it does not have an Internet connection. This was made possible through the implementation of new technology that allows Apple devices to find nearby other devices that have been placed in Lost Mode. The detection takes place via Bluetooth, so you definitely need to keep it turned on at all times. We told you more about the Latitude application, how it works and new functions in separate material.

Coolness of innovations: 10 points. “Locator” not only saved us from an unnecessary icon on the main screen, but also brought with it an essentially revolutionary function. In a couple of years it will save thousands of iPhones, we have no doubt.

Music app

In the Music app, the developers have moved song titles and artist names to the left, reduced the volume bar, and updated the AirPlay button. In addition, an expanded menu has appeared with options that allow you to quickly copy audio tracks, share them and manage your media library.

Lyrics in iOS 13 are now synced with playing tracks! Open any song, look at iPhone screen and sing along! The innovation is implemented in a cool way - the text changes with gorgeous animation, you can move between lines of text, thereby rewinding the song.

Coolness of innovations: 10 points. A solid ten for the synchronized lyrics alone. This is gorgeous!

"Phone" and "Contacts"

There are few improvements in the iOS 13 dialer. There is a new function “Mute unknown callers”. As the name implies, it allows you to silence calls and SMS from unknown subscribers. Such calls will be transferred to voicemail and don't be distracted. You no longer have to use Do Not Disturb mode to silence unknown calls.

Apple designers worked on the call window, slightly redrawing the icons and making a photo of the caller as the background. Users can also add memoji as their image directly to the Contacts menu.

Coolness of innovations: 4 points . The iPhone dialer has a nice new feature. But the call screen hasn't changed much. It opens to the entire display, interrupting whatever the user is doing. Alas, Apple did not listen to customers here.

Traffic saving mode

There's a new data saving mode in iOS 13's cellular data settings. He is working to reduce smartphone traffic consumption, but exactly how this happens is a secret. Apple doesn't tell.

Coolness of innovation: 7 points . A useful new mode that will allow iPhone owners save traffic.

A new way to charge your iPhone

iOS 13 for iPhone has completely implemented new way charging, which will increase the life of the battery! When enabled iPhone battery will charge up to 80% as usual, and after that - in a very gentle mode, that is, slowly, but safe for the health of the battery. Because of this feature, it is recommended to use the new feature only while charging the iPhone overnight.

. Potentially one of the best new ones iPhone functions, because it will help our smartphones live longer! However, only long-term tests will show real usefulness.

Maps app

“Maps” became “completely new,” but only for the United States. The main improvement is the Look Around mode. This is the equivalent of Street View Google maps. Using the function, it is convenient to navigate in an unfamiliar city or search for shops, cafes and attractions. Unfortunately, you can use Look Around only in very few localities.

Apple has made it easier for everyone to add frequently visited places in Maps. You can quickly add the location of home, work, and other places, and then create routes to them even faster, for example, through Siri.

Coolness of innovations: 3 points . Apple Maps is new again (how many times already?). But it doesn’t work for us and is unlikely to work in the foreseeable future. Apple itself promises to start updating maps for countries other than the US only in 2020. So for now we are happy only with the ability to quickly indicate frequently visited places.

CarPlay

The interface of the CarPlay car function has been completely updated and has become significantly better! Everything is clear in it, there are “Calendar” and “Music” applications redesigned specifically for CarPlay, support for Siri suggestions and the “Hey Siri” command, its own menu with settings and the “Do not disturb the driver” function. For dessert: new animation Siri that doesn't take up the entire screen. Yes, just imagine. On the iPhone, the assistant still takes over the entire screen and unceremoniously takes up the entire display, but in a car with CarPlay it does not.

. CarPlay users will be absolutely delighted. Very tasty changes.

Gamepad support

With the release of iOS 13, every iPhone will fully support game controllers from Sony PlayStation 4 and Xbox One S! Gamepads can be connected to iPhone via Bluetooth and play mobile games, for example, those that will be presented in the new gaming service Apple Arcade. Actually, because of him, Apple was tense and agreed with Sony and Microsoft to support controllers.

Coolness of innovation: 10 points . Previously, the iPhone only supported MFi controllers, which were nowhere to be purchased, and even if found, the price would be enormous.

New accessibility options

Coolness of innovations: 10 points . Apple has again not forgotten about people with disabilities. iPhone has strengthened its well-deserved title best smartphone with universal access.

Haptic Touch on all iPhones instead of 3D Touch

One of the most surprising changes in iOS 13 is the removal of 3D Touch on all iPhones. It was replaced by a software analogue - the Haptic Touch function, which previously only worked in the iPhone XR.

For all iPhone users, this is a small minus as the experience of using Haptic Touch is different compared to 3D Touch. But for iPhone SE users this is a huge plus. They didn't have 3D Touch before, but now they do!

Coolness of innovation: 5 points . We gave the change five stars out of respect for iPhone SE users. For them, this change is only a plus.

Cellular and tethering mode

A number of flexible settings have been added to iOS 13 cellular communication and Wi-Fi. Family members can automatically connect to iPhone in tethering mode. You won't have to enter any passwords - just your family account iCloud recording. Support for the WPA3 protocol was also added to the firmware, thereby increasing the security of the connection.

Coolness of innovation: 7 points . Family members don't need to remember passwords - it's convenient!

Dolby Atmos support

iPhone XR, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max now support Dolby Atmos audio! Just like that, free of charge, without registration and SMS. You can now download movies with Dolby Atmos sound from the same iTunes Store, for example, and enjoy.

Coolness of innovation: 9 points . In general, the innovation is worth 10 points, but they knocked off a point for the fact that it did not appear at least on the iPhone X. But, apparently, support is impossible purely technically.

Increased operating speed

In iOS 13, work has been done to increase operating speed. The operating system has sped up for everyone iPhone models with support for iOS 13. Apple has accelerated the launch of applications, animation processing, Touch ID and Face ID, and many other components.

Coolness of the innovation: 10 points. The speed of iOS 13 is impressive. Even the very first beta version of the firmware, which is intended exclusively for developers and for the first time in history, is not directly recommended by Apple for installation ordinary users, faster than iOS 12. Powerful!

Redesigned volume control interface

In iOS 13, the volume control interface has changed. Apple has finally done away with the clunky window that appeared in the middle of the screen when the volume was turned down or up. This window annoyed most users because it took a long time to disappear, obscuring what was happening on the screen.

This is what the new volume slider looks like in iOS 13 in landscape mode:

Like this in portrait:

Coolness of innovation: 10 points. Really!

Other improvements

In addition to the major improvements described above, there are also minor ones. Now you can connect directly from Control Center to wireless networks and Bluetooth devices or completely disable data transfer and Wi-Fi. A new QR code scanner icon has also appeared here. It looks different now and even feels a little faster. We also note an update to the interface of the Watch, Exchange and Clock applications and a new option in Screen Time, which allows you to extend the use of an application or website by a minute.

Unlike iOS 11.3, Apple has decided not to offer dedicated tapping with the new iOS 11.4 update. Previous Apple updates came with the option to roll back to iOS 11.2.6.

The company has not provided an official release date for iOS 11.4, but some sources believe that Apple will release iOS 11.4 before WWDC 2018, scheduled for early June.

UPDATEiOS 11.4: RELEASE DATE

Apple recently released the first beta of iOS 11.4 to developers (we expect a public beta of iOS 11.4 to arrive this week), which means we'll likely have to wait a while before the company releases the final version for iPhone, iPad, and models iPod touch, capable of running iOS 11.

Final updates like iOS 11.4 usually sit in beta for over a month, so don't expect the iOS 11.4 update to hit your device in April.

The iOS 11.4 beta may be tempting, but most people should avoid the iOS 11.4 preview.

Advance edition – great way experience the changes, evaluate the performance, and impress your friends, but this is beta, early software can and probably will cause problems on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch.

iOS 11.4: MONITORING REVIEWS BETA

If you don't want to download the iOS 11.4 update ahead of others, make sure you continue to stay tuned for updates during the beta testing process.

As the iOS 11.4 update enters beta testing, beta testers are discovering new features, bug fixes, and potential issues.

We're looking forward to receiving a ton of feedback from iOS 11.4 update users to help you prepare for the iOS 11.4 release date.

There are plenty of places you can find reviews for the iOS 11.4 update, but Apple's forums are a great place to start.

iOS 11.4: WHEN TO CHECK?

Now that iOS 11.4 is official, you might be wondering about the iOS 11.4 release date and time.

We probably won't see iOS 11.4 release anytime soon, but you can expect more information to be added to the update over the course of the week.

Apple's iOS updates are almost always released around 22:00 Moscow time (10:00 Pacific time), so there is no reason to check iOS 11.4 at 20:00 (Moscow time) or at 8:00 (Moscow time).

The company almost never releases iOS updates on Friday, so it's best to check for an update around 10:00 pm (UTC) Monday through Thursday.

The same goes for the iOS 11.4 beta updates.

iOS 11.4: HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO UPDATE?

We don't know the exact size, but the iOS 11.4 update is likely to be quite heavy.

The latest iOS 11.4 beta is quite heavy (several hundred megabytes) and we expect the final version of the update to eat up a significant chunk of storage on your device.

We can expect iOS 11.4 to take about a minute to download. high speed Wi-Fi and installation on your device will take more than five minutes. Exact download and installation times will vary depending on your device and current version of iOS.

If you're updating older software, such as iOS 11.2.6 or iOS 10, installing iOS 11.4 will take a little longer because the update will include features and fixes from other versions of iOS.

Once you download iOS 11.4 to your phone, you will see an option to “Install” the software now or “Later.”

Most of you will want to install the software immediately after downloading it, but some of you may want to use the installation scheduler.

If you decide to schedule the update, you can install it while you sleep, or you can ask your device to remind you to install the iOS 11.4 update later, perhaps sometime when you have more time.

If you choose to install the software overnight, you will need to connect the device to a power source.

iOS 11.4: PREPARE FOR CHALLENGES

The iOS 11.4 update is in beta and undergoing rigorous testing behind the scenes, but that doesn't mean the update will be perfect. Problems will almost certainly slip into the final release; you should be prepared to deal with them.

Common iOS problems include abnormal battery drain, Bluetooth errors, wifi errors, unstable operation of applications, delays in the user interface and other performance problems. These problems appear after every iOS release, and we expect something similar when iOS 11.4 releases.

We've previously compiled a long list of fixes for common iOS 11 problems. If you don't consider yourself an iOS expert, you'll want to highlight these fixes so you're ready to tackle iOS 11.4 problems when they show their ugly head.

You'll also want to add an Apple support group on a social network and tag the Apple support page on the website.

You should also be familiar with the Apple forums.

iOS 11.4: PREPARE FOR A RECALL

If you're having problems with iOS 11.4, you can contact Apple, try to fix the problem yourself, or downgrade to an earlier version of iOS 11.

Once the iOS 11.4 update is released, you will be able to downgrade to an earlier version of the firmware. Apple has closed the rollback to iOS 10, but you can downgrade to an earlier version of iOS 11.

If you're unfamiliar with the iOS rollback process, now is a good time to familiarize yourself with it.

When iOS 11.4 comes out, Apple may only approve one "fallback" version of iOS 11 (iOS 11.3). This option will not always be available.

Apple usually closes an old update shortly after releasing new firmware. The company is not issuing any warnings, once the loopholes to older iOS 11 updates are closed, they will be closed forever.

If you've had to rollback updates before, you should be ready for iOS 11.4. If you haven't, make sure you can handle the process.

iOS 11.4: UPDATING APPLICATIONS

If you want the best iOS 11.4 experience, you'll probably want to download app updates as they become available. These updates will help stabilize your applications, eliminate bugs, and bring improvements.

When the new version of iOS 11 is released, developers release updates to applications to provide support for iOS and iPhone.

These updates add new features and, more importantly, they fix issues with iOS 11. If you haven't already, check the App Store for important updates.

Before downloading the update, make sure to check out iOS 11 user reviews. These reviews will alert you to the strengths and problems of the current version of the app.

iOS 11.4: WHAT IF JAILBREAK?

The developers offer a jailbreak for iOS 11.1.2 and below, but we have not seen any reliable information about the new JB for iOS 11.4.

On this moment It's unclear whether the developers are planning a publicly available jailbreak tool for iOS 11.4 or older versions of iOS 11.

To be on the safe side, you'll want to avoid iOS 11.4 when the update arrives.

iOS 11.4: NO NEED TO PUT NOW

Apple's iOS 11.4 update is set to be a solid release, you might be tempted to install it with the official release.

For some of you, especially those who are using the iOS 11.4 beta or have encountered annoying iOS 11 issues, this is a great solution. However, some of you may find it easier to wait a few hours, a few days, or in some cases a few weeks before installing iOS 11.4.

There are many reasons to avoid installing new software on day one. iOS updates can harm your device's performance, especially the performance of older devices. If you have an iPhone 5 or iPhone 6, be careful.

If you need to, install an earlier version of iOS 11.4. Feedback will help you identify the potential benefits and challenges of upgrading for your specific device. Feel free to ask an Apple employee, family member, work colleague, or friend for advice. Ask on the forums.

Apple is not forcing you to install iOS 11.4, so please take your time.

iOS 11.4: WAIT A FEW HOURS

When Apple releases iOS 11.4, the update will roll out to everyone at the same time. This is one of iOS benefits, but it also creates problems.

Apple has improved the update process over the years, but we still see bugs and update failures when an update is released.

Many people download iOS, so the company's servers tend to crash within the first hour of releasing iOS updates. Sometimes this can lead to longer loading times.

If you don't want to deal with long loading times or any of the other issues that can accompany a major iOS release, avoid updating to iOS 11.4 immediately after release.

The iOS 11 update was announced by Apple at WWDC 2017 on June 5th with huge improvements over its predecessor iOS 10. In this article, you will find everything we know about the new iOS 11, including the release date and new features.

Apple also used WWDC 2017 to unveil macOS 10.13 High Sierra, watchOS 4, new models MacBook Pro, new iMac models, new iMac Pro, new tablets iPad Pro and a new smart speaker called HomePod. It was an intense leitmotif, that's for sure.

When does it come out?iOS 11?

The iOS 11 update is now available for beta testing by developers, and as of June 26th, a public beta version is available for everyone enrolled in the beta program to download and install. You can find out how to get the beta for your iPhone or iPad on our website.

The beta version will be followed by the final version of the iOS 11 update in September 2017 with new iPhones probably an iPhone 8.

For now, we must wait for confirmation from Apple of the final release date for iOS 11 – so far we have only heard “Autumn”.

Both beta versions will be continuously updated for testing, allowing developers and early adopters to test the software before it is released to the general public.

Upgrading to the latest public version of the iOS 11 update will be easy and free. Downloading and installing one of the beta versions will be a little more complicated, and creating a developer account costs $99 per year (R6,000/year).

New featuresiOS 11

Apple's WWDC 2017 saw a ton of new features introduced for iOS 11, and it was hard to keep up with so much information! Below we provide a summary of each of the main functions. Many of them are focused exclusively on the iPad, but we'll discuss the features of the iPad, iPhone, and iPod here.

Updated app store

One of the biggest updates to iOS 11 is the App Store update. Launching the app will first take you to the Today tab, which is designed to help you discover new apps. You'll see new collections, a daily list focused on a specific theme, there's even teaching aids, which show how to do certain things in a new application.

The second new tab is called "Games" and this is where you can find both new and popular games, as well as in-app purchases for games you already own, are available to view and download directly from the App Store. You'll also see previews, tips, and videos under the Games tab.

Apps also get their own, similarly designed tabs for the rest of the content available in Apple's app store.

Control Center, Lock Screen and Notifications

The lock screen and notifications have now been combined into one screen, but a much more exciting change is the exciting Control Center and it's finally even more customizable.

It now brings all the features into one page with new sliders. There you'll also find 3D Touch to provide quick access to more settings and features that look like they'll make life a lot easier.

New featuresiMessage

The Messages app has been updated in iOS 11 with some new features including new box applications, as well as a new peer-to-peer transfer feature Apple Pay, allowing you to pay contacts via iMessage and more.

The new Apple Pay feature still uses the TouchID sensor for the fingerprint scanner, and money received will immediately go to Apple card Pay, which you can use to make future Apple Pay payments or transfer funds to your bank account.

iCloud also has new messages that automatically sync with all your conversations on everyone iOS devices and macOS.

Apple is also adding a new QuickType keyboard, which means for the iPhone you'll be able to use the device with one hand. It will move the keys closer to your thumb for one-handed typing.

ImprovementsSiri with updateiOS 11

Siri has a new, more natural male and female voice, as well as a new visual interface.

Apple has also added new Siri capabilities, including the ability to translate what you say in German, French, Italian, Chinese or Spanish, with more languages coming soon. Siri also works better with Apple Music to suggest songs you like.

As if that weren't enough, Siri is also getting smarter in iOS 11. The assistant will now use learning to learn more about you and therefore make better guesses required applications. For example, if you look at a specific location or topic in Safari, Siri can suggest similar words and items in Mail, Messages, and other apps.

For developers, SiriKit is going to offer its capabilities in more applications.

Additionally, although Apple didn't talk about it during its keynote, it looks like you'll be able to force Siri to write instead of having the assistant speak out loud.

New camera features withiOS 11

The camera software also has many improvements, including improved image quality. For example, Portrait mode on the iPhone 7 Plus can be used with optical image stabilization, True Tone, and HDR.

A new Depth API has been released for developers, which means they will be able to use iPhone camera 7 Plus to add Additional information into your applications.

Apple also includes new technology High Image Performance Format (HEIF), which reduces the size of your iPhone photos 7 or iPhone 7 Plus.

The camera also gets a built-in QR scanner.

Live photo effects

Not only can you now choose a Live Photo frame to decorate your key photo, Apple is also offering new Effects available for use with Live Photos.

The new Loops effect will turn your Live Photos into an endless loop of video, Bounce can play and then stop the clip. And it's a really cool feature that means you can combine Live Photos to create stunning effects for waterfalls or city shots.

Internal maps and advanced navigation

Airport maps and shopping centers coming soon and we're also going to get information about your speed and lane navigation.

With the iOS 11 update, you'll be able to use Do Not Disturb mode while driving. When it is activated, incoming calls will be intercepted and you will also see a call notification when you arrive at your destination.

ImprovementsAirPlay 2 andAppleMusic

The new AirPlay protocol offers a host of new features for speakers, including multi-room support as well as AirPlay 2 audio DPI for development.

You'll also be able to see what your friends have been listening to on Apple Music thanks to new public profiles.

Additionally, developers will have access to the new Apple Music API to expose their library to other apps like Nike+ Run Club and Shazam.

Apple has also redesigned the Podcast app.

What functionsiOS 11 are exclusive toiPad?

We mentioned earlier that iOS 11 will have a lot of features that will be exclusive to iPad users. These features are fairly simple and focus on improving productivity, but they are key to making the iPad a more powerful and useful device. It looks like Apple is slowly but surely creating a tablet that can compete with the laptop, and with this iOS 11 update and new features for the iPad, the tablet is certainly moving in the right direction.

iOS 11: Better multitasking

The new Dock in iOS 11 for iPad means you can quickly and easily access your favorite and most-used apps or files from any screen. In addition to the Dock, the new slider design will make life easier when you want to change apps or open a new one.

Plus, the drag-and-drop implementation within the system means you can move almost anything between any application for quick and easy work. For example, you can drag an image directly into email. It sounds simple, but the process of implementing this feature was tedious, so we welcome the feature.

New application "Files"

According to rumors, the iOS 11 update will include a new app called “Files.” Like new multitasking solutions, it's designed to make life easier for power users.

Files will help you store all your documents in one convenient place. You can work with them, drag and drop various data from Mail and any other application into specific folder or create folders to help you organize your device and find what you're looking for much faster. This will speed up your tablet experience and offer the iPad Pro additional laptop alternatives.

ApplePencil

For iPad Pro models, Apple Pencil is better than ever with new integrated stylus support, plus new feature Instant Notes, which allows you to open the Notes app directly from the lock screen with a simple tap.

WhichiPhones andiPads will be receivediOS 11?

Devices that can update to iOS 11 are: iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 5C. These were smartphones, the list of updated tablets includes: iPad Air, (5th and 4th generation), iPad Mini 3, iPad Mini 2, iPad Touch 6th generation.

In addition, any new devices on iOS-based, released after: iPad Pro 2, for example, and iPhone 8.

Features thatApple did not provideiOS 11

Below we list all the rumored features that have not been confirmed (at least not yet!).

Dark mode

Users have widely expected that iOS 10 will feature a new Dark Mode, with a black background that is much easier on the eyes at night. In fact, Apple announced exactly that, but with tvOS, and we're still waiting for dark mode for iOS.

In fact, Dark Mode was discovered in iOS 10, back in the first version of iOS 10 Beta 1, launched back in June, but it is still not unlocked. We're not sure why Apple bothered to add this feature if it didn't plan to enable it in the near future, but it's possible that beta testing revealed functionality issues that led to the feature being disabled.

Multi-user calls toFaceTime

According to a report from Verifier, Apple is said to be introducing a long-requested feature by iOS users in the iOS 11 update: the ability to make group calls over FaceTime video, similar to services like Skype. The report doesn't stop there either, adding that Apple is considering making the FaceTime app more social, including filters similar to those we've seen in apps like Snapchat and MSQRD, which have been huge successes.

It's worth noting that Apple released Faceshift in late 2015, a technology that can capture a user's facial expression and turn the face into a 3D avatar in real time. Could this technology be an integral part of the planned iOS 11 overhaul? We can only wait and watch. It's also worth noting that Verifier, despite the name, has a negligible track record in rumors with Apple and therefore you should take the rumor with a pinch of salt.

Screen sharing will also be available on FaceTime, according to reports. Screen sharing is a useful feature if you're trying to help troubleshoot an iOS device remotely.

Multiple user accounts

Still unconfirmed information that is also widespread in rumors about a future tvOS update.

It is believed that tvOS 11 will include account switching, making it easier to use one Apple TV to store and switch between multiple users' media, application or game libraries, as well as their personal data and settings. This makes sense for Apple TV, the most popular family entertainment center and a device widely used to serve children's games and adult movies. And no one wants the rest of the family to view their files, nor do they need recommendations from other users about streams.

But 9to5Mac goes further and argues that it would be inconsistent if Apple suggested that tvOS 11 include this feature while leaving it out for iOS. The iPhone may be overwhelmingly a personal device, but most iPads are not. Some do double duty as a child's toy, others are designed to entertain guests or are used by multiple employees in a retail setting. And iOS users have been asking for user accounts for years.

Augmented reality in camera

Rumors suggest that users will be able to point their camera at an object and Apple's software will recognize it. This might be useful if you've forgotten a friend's name, as you could theoretically point the camera and use the facial recognition feature. Or, most likely, you will use the camera to determine the name of a flower in your garden.

New featuresiMessages

The Bloomberg report mentioned above also mentions improvements to Apple's social features, which are designed to "more effectively connect users with their contacts." Apple wants to offer a means to unify communications between individual users. For example, two friends can see all text messages, messages Email and interact in in social networks each other in the same window, according to a Bloomberg source.

We'd like to see support for reading iMessages group messages, a feature available in WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger.

Contact availability status

Apple has filed a patent that can be "summarized as a system that detects where your friends are, whether they are available, and their work status on their iPhone (e.g. silent mode or airplane mode) and presents this information in the Contacts app.

The patent shows that Apple is considering a new feature that would allow users to see an indication at a glance to see if their contacts are available for conversation and where they are located.

Dynamic keyboard with finger detection

Apple has been granted a patent covering dynamic keyboard placement on touch screens, causing individual keys to change their location in response to detecting the position of the user's fingertips.

The patent, titled “Finger Pointing Detection for Enhanced Typing,” describes a concept in which input “improves dynamically and automatically positions the desired on-screen keyboard row keys under the user's fingers as their fingers hover above the surface. Reducing the need for the user to look at the on-screen keyboard while typing."

We wouldn't be surprised if the concept makes its way to a system-wide keyboard (albeit presumably as an option) in a future iOS update, although it appears to be aimed at tablets. Of course, this isn't the first iOS feature to be used on the iPad. The most famous example is probably the split-screen view added to the iPad with the launch of iOS 9.

While the granted patent was published in November 2016, it effectively ratifies Apple's acquisition of the patent when it bought Automotive Technologies back in September 2014. Virtualoft's Virtoft virtual keyboard uses a similar principle to enable touch input.

Slide to unlock device

Sounds familiar? It should be so because we used this method to unlock iPhone and iPad in iOS 9 and every previous version iOS. In its latest incarnation, this solution resembled the following:

In iOS 10, Apple got rid of the slide to unlock the device, changing the interface so that you simply press the Home button (while simultaneously launching the Touch ID fingerprint scanner on Apple devices, eliminating the point of the slide). But some users were unhappy with this decision, which led to a petition asking for the return of slide unlocking.

Will this put enough pressure on Apple (and this is where problems arise, since at the time of this writing, the petition had 1,549 signatures, although we've heard similar sentiments from more people) to bring back slide unlocking in iOS 11? We don't think so. Apple fans have had problems with the interface before, especially in iOS 7, but most of us got used to the new solutions over time.

Changing cosmetic/aesthetic settings

There is a possibility that the iOS 11 update changelog will include radical new features to customize the system interface.

These changes include dynamically animated app icons that show, for example, your current location in the Maps icon or the current weather in Weather widgets. The ability to place shortcuts in any of the free grid slots on the screen, instead of iOS automatically sending the shortcut to the closest free slot to the top left edge of the screen. Custom system fonts. Changing the way it works on widescreen iPhones so that the system shrinks the interface to fit the size of a smaller phone, rather than dragging the interface around, hiding some of the icons off the screen.

SmartWi-Fi

Huawei P9 is one of a range Huawei phones, offering a feature called Wi-Fi+ (or Wi-Fi 2.0). This solution includes features like prioritizing strong connections, but what we like most is the ability to automatically turn Wi-Fi on or off based on your location. The system remembers the location of known networks and connects to them, but when you leave the coverage area, it turns off Wi-Fi to conserve battery power.

Given the iPhone's recent difficulties in competing for time battery life With Android flagships, smart wifi could be a great addition to iOS 11.

Access codes for one application orTouchID

Currently, you can lock individual documents in Notes, but not apps—you can either lock the entire phone or all apps. From a data protection point of view and parental controls, it would be very useful to block individual applications.

(It's possible to give an iPhone to a child and keep access to just one app using Access Control, sure, but that's a bogus feature that offers no flexibility. For older kids, it might be a good idea to let them learn iOS by simply locking out a couple of hardcore games and work papers, behind which you would not want your child to see).

Ability to change video resolution in the application

One of the selling points of the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus is the ability to record full-resolution 4K video at 30fps, as well as standard 1080p video at 60fps or 30fps. The only problem that the user faces is that there is no simple way switch resolution inside the Camera app, instead you should exit the app, go to Settings - Camera to change the resolution.

In some situations, such as shooting in low light conditions, you need to lower the frame rate (fewer frames - more light), and manually changing the frame rate takes 10-15 seconds, which is far from ideal. We'd really like to be able to quickly change the resolution and frame rate, perhaps from within the Camera app. This is a simple change that users will greatly appreciate.

Moving on to photography, it would be nice to allow Apple to take and store photos in RAW format.

Favorites in the Contacts app

Another fairly simple change we'd like to see in the iOS 11 update is the ability to view and edit your favorite contacts list, which is currently only available in the Phone app. It makes sense to access your favorite contacts from the Contacts app, and we don't understand why Apple hasn't added this feature yet. Sometimes you need easy access to contacts for reasons other than making calls!

The eleventh version of Apple's mobile operating system, which became the most important update for the iPhone and iPad. The official announcement of iOS 11 took place at the WWDC 2017 developer conference; the system was released to all users on September 19. Major system updates mainly focused on the iPad: the dock was modified, and the following useful features, like Drag&Drop. In addition, the Control Center has been significantly updated, which has become more convenient and minimalistic.

Siri also did not remain without improvements within iOS 11. Apple continues to work not only on training its voice assistant, but also over her attractiveness in terms of voice. The changes to the App Store are significant. The application store has received a greatly changed design. Now we will be greeted by the “today” tab with colorful cards. Visual changes also affected other sections of the App Store, which began to closely resemble Apple Music.

The author of the iAppleBytes channel, known to us for his comparisons, decided to conduct a grand experiment and find out exactly how they affect the battery life of the iPhone different versions BY. For these purposes, the blogger took three different iPhones 6s - s installed iOS 10.3.3, and iOS 12.2, and tested the smartphones in Geekbench 4. The comparison results are, to put it mildly, surprising.

Another serious vulnerability was found by specialists from the Chinese company Tencent Security Xuanwu Lab. Experts have discovered a bug in Safari. According to them, the proprietary browser has a weak point - using a special sequence of actions, hackers are able to disguise the address of a malicious website so that it appears as genuine. The error turned out to be global and affects all versions of iOS up to 11.4.1, and macOS up to 10.13.6.

A little over three weeks have passed since the release of iOS 12, and Apple has finally stopped supporting the eleventh version of its mobile operating system. This means that owners of all compatible devices, even if they wish, will no longer be able to install earlier versions. Of course, this practice is not new for Apple, and has a very clear basis - to maximally increase the base of devices running the latest software.
