☊ Lossless pocket player BENJIE S5. Lossless format - what is it? High quality music in Lossless format Software for starting playback

Hello everyone! You've probably heard about lossless music, but not all players allow you to listen to it. Today we will look at and download a mega functional lossless player.

Almost any of the functions of this application can be found in any other software players for Linux and Windows, but we do not know of an option that would combine all the features that Clementine offers. This player supports playback of “unbroken” lossless files via CUE, is able to work through many online services, and can also automatically catalog your tracks.

Lossless player

At the time of writing, the player supports the following services: Digitally Imported, Icecast, Jamendo, Last.fm, Google Drive, Grooveshark, JazzRadio, Magnatune, GFM, ROCKRADIO, SKY.fm, SomaFM, SoundCloud, Spotify, Subsonic, Ubuntu One, Dropbox, Skydrive, Box. By the way, there are very interesting stories about phones on the Internet. In addition, it is possible to use podcasts, including from the iTunes store, which, if necessary, can be updated and downloaded on a schedule. If you value not only the fullness, but also the visual component of your audio library, then you will appreciate the cover manager. It allows you to automatically download the so-called Cover Art for those albums that do not have it. The program also has a special function for working with physical media. It will be useful for those who synchronize a portable device with a media library. As in most similar programs, there is the ability to filter tracks by artist, year, etc. At the same time, the application also has the function of “smart” playlists, including such interesting ones as “random dynamic mix”. Its purpose is obvious from the name.

The program also has one more interesting feature. Even without playing the melody, you can understand approximately what it is. Next to each composition there is a so-called “mood indicator”, which shows in colors the mood of the track at each moment in time. Unfortunately, we were unable to find a decoding of the shades, but they are perceived more or less intuitively: for example, the black color shows “sad” fragments.

Flac player (Free Lossless Audio Codec) is basically a format for audio coding. It is an open source. This format has the ability to compress the audio without much affecting the quality. If you were to compress the audio file, the Flac would normally let you shrink the file size to half of the original size. So if you are thinking that it is similar to WinZip, then you are correct. But, as Flac happens to be specially made to take care of audio files, it will do better than WinZip in the sound domain.

So this compressing wouldn’t compromise with the quality. As this is open-source, new versions keep on getting released from time to time, and a lot of improvement can be seen. There are some fine players that are available for Flac on Windows Operating system.

So all the Audiophiles, be geared up to find the best flac media players available for the Windows Operating System.

Good day everyone!

Almost every user, whether on a work computer or at home, plays music on it from time to time. But you can listen to music in different ways - and in many ways the convenience and sound quality depend on the player you choose. This is probably why there is now such a wide variety of audio players, and debates often flare up about which one is the best...

In this article I will present my TOP 10 music players, which I considered the best (but I will not choose the best one among them).

Note: 1. I am not taking Windows Meadia Player, which is enabled by default in Windows, into account in this article (although the player, in my opinion, is not bad at all).2. By the way, I am in no way associated with any of the authors of the above programs...

In general, the player deserves attention and is recommended for review by absolutely everyone who is looking for an audio player.

Media player for playing music and movies from Apple. Distributed free of charge for OS X and Windows platforms.

The player, in addition to its main task, allows you to create your own library of media files. The player ensures file synchronization with Apple devices. The player, I want to note, supports all popular audio formats, and also allows you to watch streaming video (broadcasts).

In addition, iTunes contains a built-in store that gives access to a variety of music tracks (you will always be up to date with new releases). iTunes can analyze your tastes and then suggest similar music based on your interests. Comfortable!

One of the most popular (more than 100 million users around the world!) and oldest (more than 15 years) music players. Many of the innovations in Winamp have become mandatory attributes in audio players. A lot of “skins” (covers), plugins and add-ons have been released for the player - so the player can be adjusted to a variety of tasks!

Main advantages:

  • creating your own library of music files;
  • support for most audio formats (including flac);
  • a wide variety of covers (from the simplest ones that do not load the system to quite resource-intensive ones);
  • a huge number of settings and parameters - each user will be able to customize the program for themselves;
  • Russian language support in full;

  • fine-tuning the sound: equalizer, different sound shades, etc.;

Foobar 2000

A powerful media player that was created by one of the developers of WinAmp itself! The main feature of this player: its low system requirements with high functionality (in no way inferior to other popular players).

Main features:

  • support for all popular music formats: MP3, WAV, AIFF, VOC, AU, SND, Ogg Vorbis, MPEG-4 AAC, FLAC, OggFLAC, Monkey's Audio, and many others;
  • support for RAR, ZIP archives - they can also be unpacked on the fly (during playback);

  • ReplayGain technology (if you have files with different volume levels, they will be played back at the same level);
  • database of audio files (plugins for working with the database - Album List, dbSearch, etc.);
  • and much more.

JetAudio

Website: http://www.jetaudio.com/

Multifunctional audio and video file player. It differs, first of all, from many other players in its fine-tuned sound settings, which allows you to achieve excellent sound on almost any sound card. (note: the highest quality for this hardware).

Main advantages:

  • support for all popular audio formats: .wav, .mp3, .ogg, .flac, .m4a, .mpc, .tta, .wv, .ape, .mod, .spx, etc.;

In general, the player can be recommended, first of all, to those who are not satisfied with the sound quality. For novice users may be somewhat confused by the lack of a wide variety of covers, the lack of Russian language (*not in all versions), and the small number of visual effects. Although, is this all you need when listening to music?!

Winyl Player

Website: http://ru.vinylsoft.com/

A simple, free and easy-to-use player that plays all popular audio formats: MP3, OGG, WMA, AAC, M4A, MPC, APE, FLAC, etc. The program is distinguished, first of all, by low system requirements and high quality playback. You can also add the presence of “smart” automatic lists: top 50 (based on your interests), playing random tracks, selecting tracks with high ratings, etc.

I will also note the super-convenient operation with hotkeys: they will work even when the program is minimized to tray (i.e. you can switch tracks while in a game or working with documents).

Main advantages:

  • a convenient library formed from your tracks on the PC’s hard drive (by the way, the library is formed automatically when you first start the player);

  • the ability to work with playlists with a huge number of files (up to 100 thousand - other players will simply freeze);

  • convenient hotkeys that work even if the program is minimized;
  • Russian language support, Windows 7, 8, 10 (32/64 bits) and much more!

In general, despite the fact that the player is not yet as famous as the previous ones, it leaves an extremely positive impression. I definitely recommend getting to know it and using it!

Albumplayer

Unlike the previous one, this is a very simple player, you don't even need to install it (just download the selected archive and extract it, then run the APlayer.exe file).

It has a very simple design (I would even say outdated) and low system requirements. Allows you to open and listen to formats: WAV, FLAC, APE, WavPack, ALAC, AIFF, TAK, MP3, MP4, OGG, MPC, OPUS, Audio-CD, SACD, DVD-A.

It is also worth noting the most important thing that the player has is fairly high-quality sound: the program implements direct output of the audio stream from the audio format decoder to the output device. Thanks to this, there is no intermediate processing or mixing, which ensures accurate sound reproduction. The following output modes are supported: ASIO, Kernel Streaming, WASAPI.

The player works on Windows: XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, 10.

Foobnix

A player that was originally developed for Liniux. Now it is available for Windows OS. It is a multifunctional player that supports all major audio formats, as well as: flac, lossless, CUE, 5000+ radio stations, online music. By the way, the player has integration with Last.fm and VKontakte!

  10. convenient and easy interface that can be changed beyond recognition!

XMplay

XMPlay is a very simple audio player, the size of which is less than 1 MB (the program does not even require installation to work)!

The player provides good quality sound, has many settings (for example, 9 band equalizer, 32/64 bit audio output, a bunch of additional covers, plugins, etc.).

Many users criticize this program for its interface. I agree that the program’s interface leaves much to be desired, and throughout its existence, it seems to have never changed! However, it is worth making a reservation right away that many additional “skins” and covers have been created - which means you can always change it to a more attractive and modern one (perhaps not very convenient for a novice user!).

The player works great in the basic configuration, but if you need additional. function - you will need to download plugins (by the way, there are quite a lot of them and you can significantly expand the capabilities of the player). Supports all major audio formats: MP3; OGG; MP2; MP1; WMA; WAV; CDA; MO3; IT; XM; S3M; MTM; MOD; UMX, and also works with PLS / M3U / ASX playlists. In general, if you are looking for a simple and lightweight player, I recommend checking out XMplay!

Bug head Emperor

Most players are similar to each other, and only a few of them are clearly different from the rest... One of such applications is a music player Bug head Emperor from Japanese programmer Hiroyuki Yokota.

The design of the program may shock you, but you shouldn’t immediately give up on the program without trying it! Despite the unusual design, the program is distinguished by excellent and high-quality sound, and the possibility of portable installation (i.e., you can, for example, carry the program on a flash drive...).

High sound quality is achieved thanks to the original Bug head technology (this is not found in any other program!). Its essence is roughly as follows: the audio file is converted into raw RAW format, followed by special processing. sound optimization algorithm, among which there are such as Green, Galax and Star.

Since all these transformations occur “on the fly,” all this requires a fairly powerful computer, at least Intel Core i3 and 4 GB of RAM.

The player supports all popular audio formats, including mp3, aac, ogg, wav, flac and wma.

Brief summary: if you have a powerful modern computer and are unhappy with the sound quality, I recommend trying Bug head Emperor.

That's all for me.

For additions on the topic - a separate merci.

Translated from English, the word Lossless means “without loss.” If the sound is compressed using special lossless audio codecs, then, if desired, it can always be restored with absolute accuracy. For example, if you take an ordinary AudioCD with sound in analog format, then you will record it in WAV format for uncompressed audio, then compress WAV using lossless, and then decompress the resulting audio file into WAV and, as a result, you can record the resulting result on regular blank CD. This way you will get two completely identical AudioCDs. The advantage of the lossless format for storing audio is that the quality of the recordings is much higher than that of lossy codecs. However, they take up much less space than uncompressed audio. However, lossy files are much smaller in size than other lossless music files. Most modern software players can play lossless format. Programs that cannot play this format can easily learn to do so using the lossless plugin. What are losseless audio formats?

Sound without loss of quality

It is unlikely that a true music connoisseur will be satisfied with the sound of music recorded in MP3 or OggVorbis compression formats. Of course, if you listen to audio recordings on household equipment, then the sound defects will simply be impossible to catch by ear. But if you try to play each compressed file on a high-quality hi-fi device, you will immediately notice all the audio flaws. Of course, creating a collection of quality music on vinyl records or CDs is not easy. However, there is a reasonable alternative to this for lovers of quality sound. This is music in lossless format. Such music can be stored on a personal computer in a form that allows the original parameters of the music to remain unchanged, even if compression has been used. This way also allows us to solve the problems of high quality music and its compact storage. Today, audio equipment for listening to music is quite affordable.

Uncompressed audio formats without loss of quality:

  • CDDA – CD audio standard;
  • WAV – Microsoft Wave;
  • IFF-8SVX;
  • AIFF;
  • IFF-16SV;

Compressed formats:

- APE - Monkey's Audio;

- M4A - Apple Lossless - high-quality music for Apple devices;

- WV - WavPack;

— LA – Lossless Audio;

- WMA - Windows Media Audio 9;

- TTA - True Audio;

FLAC format

One of the most common formats today is the FLAC format. What distinguishes it from lossy audio codecs is that when used, no data is removed from the audio stream at all. This allows you to successfully use it to play music on Hi-End and Hi-Fi equipment, and also use it to create an archive of audio collections. Big advantage This format lies in its free distribution. For musicians who record their own music, this is important. Recently, this format has gained great popularity. Therefore, its support is included in most media players.

APE format

For the APE format, unlike FLAC, there are only plugins and codecs that are designed for the Windows platform. Other platforms have their own expensive solutions from third-party software manufacturers. This algorithm can achieve lossless compression of audio information by approximately 1.5-2 times. The compression process consists of three main encoding steps. Only one of them is based on the use of properties inherent in sound for compression. All others are practically no different from conventional archivers. Despite the fact that the compression algorithm is distributed free of charge, the license restrictions are such that it is practically inaccessible to amateur musicians.

Apple Lossless Format

Lossless quality music can be easily listened to using an audio compression codec without compromising quality on Apple devices. This format was developed by Apple for use in its own devices. This format is compatible with iPod players that have special dock connectors and the latest firmware. This format does not use specific tools for managing DRM rights, but the container format contains such capabilities. It is also supported by the QuickTime application. In addition, this format is included in libraries that are freely available. This makes it possible to organize listening to files in applications of the Windows operating system. Apple released the source codes of the format in 2011. This opens up broad prospects for this codec. In the near future, it may well be able to compete with other formats. In tests, this format shows pretty good results. Compressed files have a compression of 40 to 60% of the size of the originals. The decoding speed is also impressive. This justifies the use of this format for mobile devices that are characterized by low system performance. The main disadvantage of this codec is that the extension of the audio files matches the AAC audio codec. This leads to some confusion, because in essence the AAC format is not a high-quality music format. Therefore, it was decided to store information in an MP4 container with the .m4a extension. Among other formats, it is worth mentioning Windows Media Audio 9 Lossless, which is included in Windows applications Media. It works with MacOSX and Windows. However, users do not speak very favorably of it. The fact is that quite often certain problems arise with codec compatibility, and the number of supported channels is limited to only six.

Another freely distributed audio codec is the WavPack format. It allows you to compress audio information without loss of quality. WavPack integrates a special, exclusive combined mode that allows you to create two files. In this mode, one of the files is created in a relatively small size with loss of quality.wv, which you can easily play yourself. The second .wvc file can correct .wv. In combination with it, it allows you to fully restore the original. This approach may seem promising to some users, because then they do not have to choose between two types of compression. Both will always be realized. Also noteworthy is the video codec with high quality sound lagarith lossless codec. This video codec works quite efficiently and quickly.

Software for listening to lossless audio

Software players did not immediately begin to work with specific lossless codecs, which can reproduce sound without loss.

This player can handle almost all music playback formats without loss of quality. What is a good player for the lossless format can be explained using its example. This software player is quite capable of correctly processing individual tracks in lossless format. For APE or FLAC codecs this is a quite typical problem. It consists in the fact that the entire sound disc is digitized at once. It is recorded as one file without division into tracks.

The problem of dividing into tracks can be solved by an additional file that has the .cue extension. It contains a description of the access parameters for each album track. A regular player will play the entire lossless file.

Player for lossless files

The AIMP player is great for playing most audio formats and recognizes tracks in lossless format.

Players supporting lossless formats

Users respond well to the digital players Foobar 2000, jetAudio, SpiderPlayer. There are no fundamental differences between them. The choice of device will be based on the user’s subjective opinion about the convenience of the interface for playing the lossless format. You can find out what the lossless format is by testing all these players. AppleLossless format can be played when using iTunes. This codec is also supported by the popular video player VLC. Owners of Apple-compatible PCs can easily use two interesting programs - Cog and Vox. These programs support the following lossless formats: FLAC, AppleLossless, MonkeyAudio and Wavpack. There are also a lot of useful features. For example, Last.fm services are supported. Owners of computers with operating system Windows can easily use any application that is compatible with music codecs without loss of quality: WinAmp and Foobar 2000. The Winamp application requires special plugins. Lossless music can be played beautifully using KMPlayer and iTunes players. The benefit of the iTunes app is that it supports tags.

Compatible with lossless devices

It is unlikely that the owner of a music library will want to waste time converting FLAC files to MP3 in order to be able to listen to these recordings on his gadget. A tablet or smartphone has limited capabilities that cannot be compared with a personal computer, but many mobile devices today allow you to play lossless formats. For example, owners of devices running the Android operating system can use the andLess player. It can play files in APE and FLAC formats, as well as uncompressed Wav and other formats supported by the Android operating system. The situation is somewhat worse for owners of devices based on the Blackberry platform. Only owners of the Bold 8900 and 9000 models can listen to the lossless format. Owners of Apple devices can use the ALAC codec without any problems. This format is supported by the iPod player, iPad tablet and an iPhone. To play the FLAC format, you can download the FLACPlayer program from the AppStore. SamsungGALAXY devices and some SonyEricsson smartphones, as well as iriver players also support the FLAC codec. FLAC is also supported by desktop devices from many manufacturers. Media centers and media players make it easy to do without using a PC when listening to songs in lossless format. Full support for absolutely all formats is still a long way off, but this is quite enough for the media player to accept the FLAC codec, which is the most common codec for high-quality lossless music. What is lossless playback equipment?

Equipment for listening to lossless format

To get real pleasure from high-quality sound, you need to use special equipment: amplifiers, speakers and headphones. Things are easiest, of course, with headphones. If you intend to enjoy music while sitting at your computer, then these are best for you. Users speak well of Sennheiser and Koss products. Particular attention must be paid to the size of the membrane. The larger its size, the better the sound quality. IN in this case It’s important not to be deceived; many manufacturers put a small membrane in large ear pads. These headphones look pretty solid, but the sound is only suitable for listening to MP3 files. It is difficult for lovers of high-quality sound to recommend something specific. The choice in this area will be limited only by tastes and budget. Owners personal computers Those who choose high-quality acoustics for themselves would be best off choosing budget computer speakers from any popular brand. Users speak well of the Microlab SOLO series acoustic systems.

Good afternoon, dear readers. Today is a review of a pocket audio player. Otherwise, they review a lot of headphones, but not much sound sources. This player, although not new, is interesting in size, functionality and sound for its price.

Sine without distortion:

The frequency response of the player is flat, but with the same device you can roughly measure it, having files with a sine wave of different frequencies, and measuring the output voltage level.

Sound:
They promise us a signal-to-noise ratio of 119 dB, which is probably true; the player's DAC provides good performance.
The sound of the player does not have any obvious jambs, does not tire, there is no “clicking”
Listening to a familiar test disc confirmed that the sound is balanced.
As for me, there are not enough micro details, “air”.
The player requires headphones more interesting than regular ones.
But here the same rule applies to “your” sound as in home acoustics: 70% of the sound will be determined by headphones. Everything here is very subjective, even the perception of frequency response and ear volume curves are different for each person.

Comparison:

And
I drove it in different modes and in different combinations:

Fiio sounds “more correct” - the instruments are separated, the stage expands, but the price is already 2.5 times more.
On a home system:

I didn’t like the sound here, everything is compressed and not dynamic compared to the station. The player can be justified by the fact that it is designed for the load of headphones.

I needed an inexpensive player that would brighten up my long journey or business trip - I got it.
It will also be suitable for everyday listening, so as not to drain your smartphone’s battery with music. It will sound at the level of top smart models.
