We are all used to thinking that the sounds of incoming messages on iOS can only be changed by jailbreak or some other add-on. This used to be the case, but now you can change the sounds of messages in the same way as the ringtone.

This may be useful for those who are already tired of standard compositions, who are tired of mistaking sounds from other people’s devices for their own, or for those who just want a little individuality.

So how do you add your own sound?

1. Select the sound file you want to use as the sound for incoming SMS.

2. Add this file to your iTunes library.

3. If the composition is longer than required, do this. Open context menu file and click "Details".

On the “Options” tab, set the start and end times of the composition. For example, I'll set the start to "1:10" and the end to "1:15".

4. Open the context menu and click “Create version in AAC format" The program will create a copy of the file with the selected duration and almost the desired format.

5. Now open the context menu of the new file and select “Show in Finder” (or “Show in Explorer”).

6. A folder with the required file. We want to change its format. To do this, start renaming the file and change “.m4a” to “.m4r”.

On Windows, you will have to first enable the display of file name extensions (see screenshot above).

7. Add the resulting file to iTunes. It will be located in the “Sounds” section.

8. Connect the iPhone to the computer and drag the melody onto the device.

9. On the iPhone, go to “Settings” - “Sounds” - “Message Sound”. Select the prepared file.
