The TP link does not connect. Connecting and setting up a TP-LINK WI-FI router

Recently, Wi-Fi has become an integral part of the user’s life and is gaining momentum at an ever faster pace, since it is a very convenient thing. Wi-Fi made it possible to use one Internet connection for several devices such as a laptop, tablet or smartphone, and also eliminated unnecessary wires in the apartment.

This article will talk about how to set up Wi-Fi at home. Namely, we will analyze how to connect and configure the router or how it is called R12 correctly; router.

What is a router for?

Many users are mistaken and initially think that the router itself is the Internet and that when buying it at home, a problem will immediately appear. wired Internet. But this is not true at all. In simple words, the Router is actually a “tee”, then it divides one connection into several, this is its fundamental function. That is, you should at least have wired Internet in your apartment. It connects to the router, and it, in turn, distributes it to other devices according to its means wireless communication Wi-Fi.

So let's assume that you bought a router. Now you need to connect it to your computer. I will look at TP-LINK as an example, although they all connect in a similar way. All routers have LAN sockets on the back. This is where all the wires need to be connected.

As a rule, the wire through which the Internet comes is connected to a separate socket. It is always highlighted in a separate color. It may be blue, grey, white or yellow depending on the manufacturer, but it is always a different color from other sockets. The remaining sockets are intended for connecting other devices via wire that do not have Wi-Fi.

In our case, we connect the Internet wire to the blue connector and plug the separate wire included with the router into a laptop or computer and insert its other end into the yellow socket, preferably number 1.

So the router is connected, now let's start setting it up.

WiFi setup

Almost all routers come with installation disk. We will use it to make the settings. So, insert the disk into the drive and wait for the installation wizard to launch. If the Wi-Fi setup wizard does not start, then open “My Computer” on the desktop, find the DVD-ROM and launch it manually by double-clicking the left mouse button.

So the wizard has started. Select the model of our router (you can see it on the box or on the bottom wall of the device) and run the “Quick Installation Assistant”

In this window we check the indicator readings. It is necessary that the indicator signals correspond to the actual readings of the router. If everything matches, then we continue setting up further.

After this, a message indicating successful verification will appear. Click the “Next” button

Here we select the router connection type. We choose the most common option R12; Dynamic IP, it suits any connection.

Here we select the second item. Nowadays, connecting by MAC address is practically not used. This can be checked at home. But for this you need to have at least two devices, for example two laptops (in extreme cases, you can ask your friends). We simply connect another laptop directly to the Internet. If the Internet is working, then your connection is not to the MAC address and accordingly we need to select the second item.

In this window we need to come up with a name for our network. Enter on English language. These names will be displayed in detected wireless networks on a laptop, tablet or smartphone.

Here we select the Wi-Fi protection level. Select WPA2-PSK R12; this is the most reliable protection. After that, set a password. The password must be entered in English, you can also add numbers. I advise you to make the password length at least 10 characters. This password will be needed to connect your devices wirelessly. That is, until you enter the password on the device, you will not be able to connect to the network, so no one will be able to connect to your Internet without knowing the password. This way we will protect ourselves from your neighbors using your Wi-Fi.

In this window we confirm the settings. Check the “Save settings in a text file” checkbox. Thus, on the desktop it will be created text file with the settings of your Wi-Fi, namely there will be the name of the network and the password for it so that you do not forget it.

Hello dear friends. Nowadays, unlimited Internet will not surprise anyone, as well as its high speed. People are massively buying tablets, laptops and smartphones that have a built-in Wi-Fi module that allows them to use wireless internet around the house. And some people just want to get rid of wires throughout the apartment. In both cases they came to the rescue Wi-Fi router s that make it easy to distribute the Internet throughout the house. We'll talk about this further.

Of course, I decided a little late to get a Wi-Fi router. So again, an article from my own experience. I will write about that today how to connect and configure Wi-Fi TP-Link router TL-WR841N (this is the router I bought for myself). Also set a password for the Wi-Fi network so that the neighbors don’t steal the Internet :).

Before moving on to writing instructions, I’ll draw your attention to a question that probably worries a lot of people who have thought about Wi-Fi installation router. This is about the harmfulness of Wi-Fi, I wrote an article about it, you can read it. And one more thing, you ask (what is there to ask, if you are reading this article, you have probably already bought a router) why did I choose the TP-Link TL-WR841N router? According to my observations, this is the most the best option for such a price, I paid 300 UAH for it. (1200 rubles). This is not an expensive router that can provide a full-fledged Wi-Fi network for the home.

I’ve already written a lot of unnecessary text, but I only promised instructions with pictures :)

1. You brought the router home or to the office, it doesn’t matter, we open the box and find a lot of pieces of paper there, a disk with instructions and a wizard for setting up the router. Also included, of course, is the router itself, if not, then you were deceived :), a network cable to connect it to the computer and a power supply, that’s all.

2. We connect the router to the computer. Everything is very simple here. We place the router not far from the computer, it’s just that the cable included in the kit is not very long, if necessary, you can crimp more cables (you can even do this yourself, in more detail). This can be done in almost any computer store.

We connect power to the router and plug it into a power outlet. Then we connect the WAN Internet cable to the blue socket. The TP-Link TL-WR841N router has 4 LAN ports, which means you can connect 4 computers via a network cable. We connect the computer to the router using the cable that comes with the kit. Here are the pictures:

Let's quickly go through the buttons and connectors:

  1. On/off button.
  2. Power cable.
  3. WAN connector for connecting to the Internet.
  4. LAN connector for connecting the router to a computer via a network cable.
  5. Enabling the feature.
  6. Button to reset the router settings.

That's all, our router is connected. Let's now move on to the setup.

Setting up the TP-Link TL-WR841N router

Before you start setting up, I recommend doing .

To configure the router, open any browser, and in address bar we write 192.168.0.1, usually 192.168.1.1 goes through, but I was able to access the settings only through 192.168.0.1. Only after configuring the firmware update do I get access to the settings via 192.168.1.1.

A window will appear in which you need to enter your login and password to access the router settings. By default, the login is admin and the password is admin.

In this article I will tell you how to do it initial setup Tp link routers. The advantage of this company in terms of settings is that almost all Tp-link routers are configured almost the same way.

In addition, they have an intuitive port color scheme. And even an inexperienced user will not have to think about where to connect which cable.

We will configure the router in 3 stages:

  1. Setting up an Internet connection
  2. Setting up Wi-fi on the router

So let's get started.

Preparing the router for setup

We turn on the router to the network. We connect the provider cable to the blue port on the router.

If you don't have this cable. then you can connect to the router via Wi-Fi from any device. More details on how to do this can be found here.

Launch any browser and go to the site 196.168.0.1

If this data is not suitable, then you can reset the settings on the router. To do this, press the Reset button and hold for 10 seconds. All indicators on the router should blink. After this, we wait about a minute until the router boots up and try to log in again.

Setting up an Internet connection on a Tp Link router

To set up the connection, we will need data from your provider. They should have been given to you upon connection. If this data is not available. then you will need to call the support service and find out how to get them. It will also be possible to clarify the protocol by which you connect to the Internet (PPPoE, PPtP, L2TP, etc.) We will configure PPPoE, because This is the most common protocol used to connect to the Internet.

  • On the left in the menu, select the Network section (Netwotk)
  • Next, select the protocol by which you are connecting (PPPoE, PPtp, L2Tp, etc.)
  • We enter the login and password issued by the provider. (if you have a PPtP connection, you also need to specify the server address)
  • Secondary connection dot Dynamic IP
  • WAN connection mode, put a dot on Connect automatically
  • Click the Save button and wait for the page to refresh.

After the page has been updated, open new tab. If you did everything correctly, then the Internet should already be working. All that remains is to configure WiFi.

Setting up Wifi on a Tp Link router

Setting up Wifi couldn't be easier. If you have a dual-band router, then Wifi is configured separately for each 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz band!

  • On the left, select the Wireless network section
  • In the Network name (SSID) field, enter the name new network Wifi in Latin letters
  • Mode: 11bgn Mixed Channel: Auto
  • Click Save. If the router prompts you to reboot, then it’s too early.

Now let's set a password for the Wifi network:

  • On the left, select the Wireless Security section
  • Select protection WPA/WPA2 – Personal or WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK
  • We select the version WPA2-PSK, and the encryption is AES
  • Click Save

If the router prompts you to reboot the router (a red line appears), then reboot. After the reboot, we check the WiFi connection, everything should work. Enjoy!

Hello, today we will talk about setting up the most popular router in the CIS - TP-LINK TL-WR841N. For a very low price, it has decent qualities, such as high-quality work, ease of connection and ease of setup. Also, the internal interface allows you to perform basic settings. But since this is a budget router, you shouldn’t expect much from it. All it can do is receive the Internet via wire and distribute it via WiFi and wire to other devices. I won’t tell you about its characteristics, all this is described in detail on the reviews page (you can find it by searching for self-help or go to the “reviews” section). Here we will consider detailed instructions By setting up TP-LINK TL-WR841N.

Connecting the TP-LINK TL-WR841N router

The main rule that I recommend to everyone is to set up the TP-LINK TL-WR841N by connecting it with a wire to a computer or laptop. It is possible to set up a router via Wi-Fi, but I highly do not recommend doing this, so we connect the router according to the following diagram.

Based on the drawing and our own intuition, we can build simple diagram connections:

  1. We take the power supply and connect it to the router (in a special connector, there is only one), then plug it into the outlet, now press the button On off. nutrition. After this, the network indicator on the front panel (the first one on the left) should light up, and the second indicator (system) may also light up (and blink) - this means that the router is ready for use.
  2. Then we take the Internet cable from your provider and connect it to the WAN (Internet) connector. The fourth indicator from the left should start flashing.
  3. Now let's take short wire(patch cord) included in the kit, and connect it to any of the LAN connectors, and connect the other end of the wire to the computer’s network card.

That's it, the connection is complete.

Reset TP-LINK TL-WR841N router settings

I always advise those who are setting up a router for the first time after purchase to reset the router settings to factory settings. You may ask why do this if the router should be at factory settings anyway. But in my practice, I found that the router had already been configured by someone earlier. Resetting the settings is also useful if you made a mistake while setting up the router and don’t know where exactly. It's very easy to do. On the back panel of the router there is a button labeled WPS/Reset, click on it and hold for 20-30 seconds. After which, after waiting a couple of minutes, the router will completely reboot and the default settings will be set.

Login to the TP-LINK TL-WR841N router

After we have connected the router to the Internet and computer, we need to log into the router interface. To do this, open any browser (Opera, Google Chrome, Yandex browser, Mazila) and enter in the address bar: 192.168.0.1. There is also a universal address for tp-link routers - this is “https://tplinklogin.net”. After entering any of these addresses, press the Enter button. An authorization window will open in front of you, in which you will be asked to enter your Username and Password. By default, the username is admin and the password is admin. After entering, click on the “Login” button.

Changing the default password of TP-LINK TL-WR841N

Many wizards recommend changing the default password for security purposes. My opinion on this matter is this: if you do not have trust in those people who will have access to your home network, then it's worth changing. If you are confident in these people, then you should not change. The fact is that the password for the router is usually set once and quickly forgotten, since it is rarely needed after configuration. When you need it, you will not be able to remember it and you will have to reset the router settings again. But I can’t explain how to change the password on the router.

Once you have entered the router interface, in the left menu, at the very bottom, there will be a “System Tools” section. In it, select the “password” item. A window will open with fields to fill in, fill them in:

  1. Previous username - if the settings were default, then enter admin.
  2. The previous password is also the same if the default settings - enter admin.
  3. New username - you can enter any name. But again, I don’t recommend changing it; it’s better to leave it as admin.
  4. New password - we come up with it New Password and enter it.
  5. Confirm your password - repeat the password we created.

Also notice the red text at the top that says “Username and password must not exceed 14 characters in length and must not include spaces!”

After all the data has been entered, click on the “Save” button.

Setting up the Internet on the TP-LINK TL-WR841N router

Before you start setting up the Internet, you need to decide what type of connection your provider uses. You should also find out what parameters you must fill out. Basically, all the data is in the contract, but sometimes you have to call the provider’s technical support. Below, for each connection type, I will indicate which fields to fill out and what data to enter. I also wanted to say, don’t be afraid to call technical support, they should provide this data for free.

The main Internet settings page is located in the “Network” section -> “WAN” item. Here in the “WAN connection type:” field we will select our connection type.

Dynamic Internet connection type

This type of connection is set by default in the router settings, so if your provider has this type, then after connecting the router you should have Internet access.

If you need to select this connection type, changing it from another type, you can do this by going to the “Network” section - “WAN” item and in the “WAN connection type” field, selecting “Dynamic IP address”. Then click on the “Define” button, wait until the data is loaded and click on the “Save” button.

Connection type Static.

Here you need to know a number of parameters, such as: "IP address, Subnet mask, Default gateway, Primary DNS." These parameters must be specified in the contract from the provider, they can also be found in the settings network card a computer that was connected to the Internet (how to do this is described in the article setting up a network card (link to it above). Or you can simply call technical support and find out these parameters. Let's fill in all the fields:

  1. WAN connection type - select “Static IP address”.
  2. IP address - you should know.
  3. Subnet mask - you should know.
  4. The main gateway - you should know.
  5. MTU size (in bytes) will most likely be 1500 by default, if the provider did not say anything additional about it. But if the provider has indicated its size, use it.
  6. Primary DNS - you should know.
  7. Secondary DNS - this parameter can be provided to you by your provider, but I recommend specifying the DNC server from Google, 8.8.8.8

Connection type PPPoE

This type of connection is used big number companies, the largest of which are TTK, Rostelecom, Dom.ru. You will definitely need to know your username and password to connect to the Internet. This data must be specified in the agreement with the provider. If you have lost your contract, you will have to call technical support. Let's fill in all the fields:

  1. WAN connection type - select “PPPoE/Russia PPPoE”.
  2. Password - you must know.
  3. Confirm your password - you must know.
  4. Secondary connection - everything is not easy here. By default, providers do not provide this service, so the point is “Disable”, but if you ordered Extra options, such as Static ip, then you need to select the appropriate item and enter the data.
  5. WAN connection mode - here we put a dot on “ Connect automatically."

Connection type PPTP

A popular type of connection is used by many providers, some of the leaders are Aist Togliatti, Ufanet (UfaNet). To configure you need to know "Username, Password, IP address or Name VPN servers" All this data must be specified in the contract with the provider. You can also find them out from your provider by calling technical support. Now let's fill in all the fields:

  1. WAN connection type - select “PPTP / Russia PPTP”.
  2. Username - you should know.
  3. Password - you must know.

Connection type L2TP

Compared to others, this is a fairly new type of connection. The largest provider that uses this type connections, - Beeline. You need to know the parameters “Username, Password, IP address or VPN Server Name”. Let's fill in all the fields:

  1. WAN connection type - select “L2TP / Russia L2TP”
  2. Username - you should know.
  3. Password - you must know.
  4. IP address/Server name - you should know.
  5. IP address - does not need to be specified if you have not ordered the additional “Static IP” service from your provider.
  6. Subnet mask - does not need to be specified if you have not ordered the additional “Static IP” service from your provider.
  7. Default gateway - does not need to be specified if you have not ordered the additional “Static IP” service from your provider.
  8. DNS - does not need to be specified if you did not order the additional “Static IP” service from your provider.
  9. Internet IP address - does not require filling.
  10. Internet DNS - does not require filling.
  11. MTU size (in bytes) - if the provider did not indicate filling this parameter, leave it as default.
  12. Maximum downtime - for those who have unlimited Internet, set “zero”, the rest - at your discretion in minutes.
  13. Connection mode - put a dot next to “Connect automatically”.

Setting up Wi-Fi on the TP-LINK TL-WR841N router

Before setting up WiFi, make sure that the Internet on your computer is working. To do this, open a new tab in the same browser and try to open any site. If everything is fine, then let's proceed WiFi setup. Next, I will explain in detail not only how to set up Wi-Fi, but also what capabilities the TP Link TL V841N router has. Most importantly, check whether Wi-Fi is turned on on the router. The switch on the back panel of the router is responsible for this; it needs to be in the “ON” position.

Setting up a Wi-Fi network name

The first step in setting up a wireless network is to set the name of the network. This is the name that will appear in the list of available wireless connections. First, let's go to the "Wireless Mode" section -> select the "Wireless Mode Settings" item. On the page that opens, fill in the fields:

  1. Network name - any, in Latin letters, with numbers.
  2. Region - here we select the country in which you live; for the countries of the former CIS, “Russia” is suitable. But you can also indicate your country if it is on the list.
  3. Mode - 11bgn mixed.
  4. Channel width - set to “Auto”.
  5. Channel - we will choose one of the last ones, since there may be other routers nearby and it is better that your channels do not coincide.
  6. Maximum transfer speed (Tx) - leave it at default.

Setting a password for a Wi-Fi network

The WiFi power of this router allows you to receive a signal within a radius of 300 meters in open areas. In a panel house, the transmission radius is at least one apartment within a radius of the router. This means that if you do not set a password for Wi-Fi, then all your neighbors will be able to use your Internet, which will lead to a decrease in quality. Therefore, you definitely need to set a password for your TP-LINK TL-WR841N router. To do this, we need to go to the “Wireless Mode” section -> select the “Wireless Protection” item. A page will open on which we will need to put a dot in front of “WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK” and fill in the fields:

  1. Version - leave the default “Automatic”
  2. Encryption - leave the default “Automatic”
  3. PSK password - this is where our WiFi password will be. It must consist of at least 8 letters (Latin) and numbers. Try to set a password that you can easily remember, or be sure to write it down.
  4. Group key update period - set “zero” here
  5. Click on the “Save” button.

After setting the password, setting up your router can be considered complete!!!

Who is connected to your WiFi network

The TP-LINK TL-WR841N router can allow you to see who is connected to your Wi-Fi network. This will allow you to monitor the users of your network and find out if there are unnecessary users. To do this, you need to go to the “Wireless Mode” section -> select the “Wireless Mode Statistics” item. A page will open that displays a list of mac addresses of devices connected via WiFi. You can compare it with your devices and identify the enemy. Then, by clicking on the deny button, you will disable access to your network to this Mac address.
