Review of Meizu U20 – stylish smart. Full review of the Meizu U20 smartphone in Russian Mobile phone Meizu u20

Meizu U20 is a glass smartphone at an affordable price. The device has a high-quality screen and an elegant design. Its announcement took place in August 2016.

Appearance and ergonomics

Maze U20 should appeal to fans of everything glossy and shiny. The body of the device is made of glass panels located on both sides. Between them is an aluminum frame with a chrome bevel. The smooth ends stand out, as well as the mTouch button under the screen, which is responsible for navigation. Directly inside it is a touch fingerprint scanner that instantly responds to the touch of a finger.

The device is quite slippery due to the abundance of glass, but otherwise there are no problems with it in terms of ergonomics. The gadget is assembled with high quality, no creaks are heard. On the bottom edge there is not only an external speaker, but also a headphone jack, as well as a main microphone and a USB port. An additional microphone is installed on the top end. The model is equipped with a 3260 mAh battery. Available colors: black, white, pink and gold. Dimensions: height - 153 mm, thickness - 7.7 mm, width - 75.4 mm, weight - 158 g.

Display

The U20 houses a 5.5-inch screen with a classic IPS matrix and a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels. On top, the display is protected by Gorilla Glass 3. There is full lamination technology, which means the absence of any air gap. The image looks realistic and detailed. It is worth noting a significant reserve of brightness, as well as wide viewing angles. There is also an anti-glare filter that effectively “removes” solar reflections.

Hardware and performance

The U20 smartphone has an eight-core Helio P10 processor with 3 or 2 GB of LPDDR3 RAM. This chip operates at a frequency of 1000 MHz in normal mode, and during heavy loads it increases the power to 1800 MHz. The Mali-T860 graphics accelerator is used here. The amount of internal memory is 32 GB or 16 GB, which depends on the specific version. There is support for memory cards with a capacity of up to 128 GB.

The gadget received the Android 6.0 operating system with the Flyme 5.2 shell. In the AnTuTu test, this device scores around 48,000 points. There are no difficulties with multitasking. Regular tasks are also processed well and reliably. Only demanding games this processor too tough, so at high graphics settings the user will experience frame drops.

Communication and sound

Meizu U20 has at its disposal a medium-volume multimedia speaker. Things are much better with sound if you listen to music through decent headphones. You can always hear your interlocutors very well. The smartphone works in 4G networks, but it does not always pick up these frequencies quickly.

Camera

The high-quality 13-megapixel camera in Meizu U20 is equipped with phase detection autofocus, a dual-tone flash and an aperture ratio of 2.2. The camera quickly takes photos with good detail. There is a burst mode. It is worth noting that the pictures are of decent quality even in automatic mode, which works quite correctly. There is also a 5-megapixel front camera with f/2.0 aperture and Beauty features function.

conclusions

It is thanks to the stylish appearance U20 attracts quite a lot of attention. In addition to the great design, there is good camera and a wonderful display. Equipment: phone, charger, documentation, branded paperclip.

Pros:

  • Very nice design.
  • Magnificent display with a large diagonal.
  • Quite high quality materials and solid assembly.
  • Sophisticated fingerprint scanner.
  • Detailed photos in different conditions.

Minuses:

  • Not the most advanced sound.
  • Quite slippery body.

Introduction

On our website, only the first acquaintance with the Meizu M3 Note was published (at one time we accidentally missed it, we repent), so the new (at least in terms of release date and system version) Meizu U20 came out very opportunely: both the first and second devices are very similar in characteristics, Note is successfully selling in Russia, and U20 has just hit store shelves and is also aiming to become a sales leader among Meizu gadgets. Smartphones have balanced parameters and cost quite adequate money, taking into account certification.

Design, dimensions, control elements

The Meizu M3 Note has a classic design, which, by the way, is starting to become not only boring, but even slightly annoying. On the other hand, Note came out a long time ago, so there is no point in making complaints about it. Another question is U20. The design of the sides and back panel has changed here. The edges have become flat, the shape of the case is less rounded, the back surface is neither plastic nor metal, but glass. It doesn’t look very original, but it’s fresher than the M3.

The glass on the devices is of unknown origin, but they are tempered: during testing (I’ve had the M3 for about three months, the U20 for several weeks), nothing bad happened, minor scratches appeared, and that’s all. On the reverse side of the U20, the glass also remained intact and unharmed :)

If we talk about design ergonomics, I’m closer in spirit to the M3 Note: it’s smoother and fits well in the hand. On the other hand, it is slightly thicker and heavier (despite the millimeters and grams, the difference is still noticeable). The U20 device is angular, one gets the feeling that the frame is not flat, but slightly concave.

As for materials, I prefer glass: in the cold season it does not freeze as much as metal, and in the summer it remains neutral in terms of temperature. The Note has a metal back, with plastic inserts on the top and bottom.

The new U20 is clearly richer in color: it has white, pink, gold and gray options, but the M3 Note only has gold, black and gray.

The arrangement of the elements is the same, plus or minus: sensors and speakers on top. The U20 doesn't have a notification light, which is a bit of a shame since I'm used to it on many devices, for example. In the M3 Note, the indicator is at the top right.

The speakers sound almost the same, but I liked the speaker in the U20 better - it is a little bassier and sounds better. The volume is high, the interlocutor can be heard well, and you can also be heard perfectly.

At the bottom there is a traditional mechanical button with a built-in fingerprint sensor. The shape and tactile sensations are the same: minimal travel, firm pressure.

At the bottom there is a micro-USB (and the new model too, which is strange), a microphone (in the M3 Note it is made to fit the speaker grille) and a speakerphone.

The 3.5mm headphone jack is on the bottom in the U20, while it's on the top in the M3 Note, and both models also have additional noise-canceling microphones there.

On the left is a metal slide for two Nano SIM cards or one SIM card and a memory card.

On the right is the power button and volume rocker key. In the M3 Note they are slightly sloping, while in the U20 the buttons are flat and metal.

On the reverse side there are cameras and flashes: in the new product the module is located closer to the left edge, and in the laptop it is closer to the center.

In general, the M3 Note is more practical, but the Meizu U20 definitely looks prettier.

Comparative dimensions:

Displays

The Meizu M3 Note smartphone is equipped with a 5.5-inch diagonal screen, the same diagonal as the U20. Physical dimensions of the displays: 68x121 mm, M3 Note frames – 16 mm x 16 mm x 3.5 mm, U20 – 14.5 mm x 16.5 mm x 3.5 mm.

The screen resolution is the same - FullHD, that is, 1920x1080 pixels, pixel density - about 400 DPI. There is no air gap. The matrices are made according to IPS technology.

The brightness of the backlight of the M3 Note matrix is slightly lower than the backlight of the U20 matrix. This is not particularly noticeable to the eye.

The viewing angles are the same; when tilted, the picture on the M3 Note takes on a reddish tint; the larger the angle, the greater the distortion. U20 has fewer problems: the image is practically not distorted. The black color is definitely better on the U20 smartphone, and the white is also more natural on it.

Below are photos from which you can clearly understand that the matrix in the M3 Note is clearly inferior in all respects to the matrix of the U20 (it’s on the right).

Batteries

The new product from Meizu uses a 3260 mAh battery, and the laptop has a 4100 mAh battery. I think it's already clear that the U20 will last longer than the M3 Note, given that specifications they have one to one.

When working with devices, the batteries lasted about 16-18 hours in the case of the M3 Note and 12-14 hours in the case of the U20. In a more gentle mode, the gadgets worked: up to 24 hours with the M3 Note and about 20 hours with the U20.

In movie mode (HD), the battery runs out after about 9 hours (M3 Note) and 7 hours (U20), in gaming mode the battery lasts for about 4 hours (M3 Note) and 3 hours (U20), in audio playback mode on maximum volume– more than 50 hours for both gadgets.

Communication capabilities

The devices are equipped with two nano-SIM slots. Both connectors support 3G/4G networks in Russian frequencies.

Network types:

  • 2G GSM/GPRS/EDGE (900/1800/1900 MHz)
  • 3G WCDMA/HSPA+ (900/2100 MHz)
  • 4G FDD-LTE (1800/2100/2600 MHz)
  • 3G TD-SCDMA
  • 4G TD-LTE

The rest is standard: Wi-Fi (b/g/n without ac) dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz/5 GHz), Bluetooth 4.0, micro-USB connector for charging/synchronization. GPS navigation (including GLONASS) works without problems.

Memory

Smartphones are equipped with two or three gigabytes of RAM. The internal memory can be 16 GB or 32 GB, again depending on the RAM. There is support microSD cards up to 128 GB.

Cameras

Meizu M3 Note has a 13 MP main camera ( protective glass Corning Gorilla Glass 3, f=2.2 aperture), 5 MP front camera (f=2.0 aperture). The modules in U20 have similar parameters.

Despite the fact that from the point of view of performance characteristics the cameras are identical, they shoot differently: the frames on the M3 Note are not always sharp, the white balance “dances”, there is a lot of noise even in daytime frames. On the U20, the photos turn out a little better: the picture is brighter and sharper, there is less noise, and the white balance is usually relatively correct.

Front cameras very similar, the only difference is the BB.

The videos are shot almost identically, the quality is average, the sound is clear and loud.

To put it very briefly and to the point, the Meizu U20 camera takes better pictures, the difference is not so obvious, but for lovers of “photos” it will be noticeable.

M3 Note U20

With toys, the situation is standard for the Helio P10: most of them run on medium settings; games run with high settings, but frame drops are possible.

For everything else, performance is enough. Advice: don’t skimp and take gadgets with three gigabytes of RAM.

Smartphones run different versions Google Android: new on the “six”, and the M3 Note is still on 5.1. However, there is no difference, because Flyme’s own shell is used, however, it is also in U20 version 5.2.4.0G, and in the laptop - 5.1.11.0G.

Multimedia

The volume of the speakers is slightly above average, the quality is not bad, but you shouldn’t count on Pro 5/MX6 type sound.

The sound in the headphones is more or less good, but, of course, it’s far from reaching the Pro 6 level. On the other hand, nothing bothered me, which means that the majority will be satisfied.

Conclusion

It seems to me that from the text it became clear to you: Meizu U20 has taken the lead over the M3 Note in all respects: the new product has a better design, better matrix screen, better camera, newer version operating system.

The difference in price is minimal, so you should take a closer look at the U20 and choose the 3/32 GB version - you can never have enough memory.

Let me remind you once again that the Meizu M3 Note costs 17,000 and 19,000 rubles, and the U20 costs 18,000 and 20,000 rubles.

An old proverb says that you are greeted by your clothes, but you are seen off by your mind. The designers dressed it up great new smartphone Meizu, but you understand what it really is only after becoming closely acquainted with the device. Read on to find out what we found out from testing.

Equipment

The boxes made of thick, coated cardboard in which Meizu distributes its products have become even more minimalist. The schematic image of the smartphone disappeared, giving way to the model number. But inside everything is the same: a smartphone (one of four colors: black, silver, gold and pink), brochures in a special envelope, a “clip” for accessing Sim cards, Micro USB cable, and Charger(5V, 2A).

We wrote the Meizu U20 review using the younger version of the smartphone as an example (2 GB of RAM and 16 GB for storing personal data).

Appearance

The updated design is what is going to win the hearts of Meizu U20 buyers. This time electronic stuffing placed in a sandwich consisting of 2.5D glass panels and a rigid metal frame. Meizu does not say whose tempered glass is installed here. However, during testing, no damage appeared on them, which gives hope for the use of high-quality material. In addition, both the front and back panels have an excellent oleophobic coating.

A fashionable curve along the edge of the front panel is almost not felt. The point is the sharp edge of the metal frame adjacent to the glass. Because of this design detail, the device noticeably loses its ergonomics. The chamfers made around the perimeter of the body cut into the palm, and tactilely the U20 is perceived as angular.

The layout of the device's controls and connectors is almost standard. Buyers unfamiliar with Meizu smartphones should pay attention to the single navigation key. The mTouch 2.1 fingerprint sensor built into it not only quickly recognizes the owner and supports gestures, but is also responsible for those standard actions that usually require three keys.

To the right of the speaker is an LED notification indicator. Another feature that owners of wired headsets will appreciate is the location of the 3.5 mm jack on the bottom edge of the device.

Display

The case with dimensions 153 x 75.4 x 7.7 mm has a built-in 5.5’’ IPS matrix resolution 1920x1080 pixels. The thin black frame running along the perimeter is not visible against the background of the default wallpaper - a cunning move on the part of the manufacturer.

In general, the Meizu U20 screen pleases with picture quality. Color rendition is close to ideal, so the calibration tools built into the firmware are not useful. The engineers did not forget about the anti-glare filter, so the device is comfortable to use even near bright light sources.

The screen fill with both black and white looks even. There are no "lights". The only pity is that the black color is unstable. When tilted, either in a vertical or horizontal plane, it becomes very bright. The stated maximum backlight brightness is 400 cd/m2. To reach this level, you will have to turn off adaptive control and set the maximum manually. The touchscreen is sensitive, but only recognizes 5 simultaneous touches.

Iron

The quad-core MediaTek Helio P10 with Mali T860 graphics core and 2GB RAM in our configuration demonstrates smooth GUI operation and stable temperature regime under high load.

Power saving settings in Flyme directly affect performance in synthetic tests. We will tell you more about this below. In the meantime, keep in mind that the performance power mode was selected for the tests.

At medium graphics settings, the frame rate in some games from our test set fluctuates, but the drops are invisible to the eye, and there are no critical errors or severe lags. The average FPS reaches 30, which makes the game comfortable. After a couple of hours of testing, the smartphone body only warmed up slightly at the top, and the temperature inside never exceeded 38 degrees Celsius.

Of the 16 GB of internal memory, 10 GB are allocated for the owner’s needs. The space available for storing files is expanded using a memory card, which is installed in a hybrid microSD/nano-SIM slot.

Software

The Chinese version of the device comes with a certain YunOS, but we won’t tell you anything about it, since the U20 enters the international market with a different firmware.

Flyme 5.2.4 is still based on Android 6.0 and represents a major rethink of Google's familiar operating system. Compared to it, Flyme has acquired additional functions, without losing the minimalist approach to design. GUI here is a cross between Android and IOS. Navigation through it is carried out using swipes and a single central key, which, surprisingly, turns out to be convenient.

Interestingly, Meizu abandoned the preinstalled Google services in their smartphones. However, there is nothing to worry about; the company did not impose its own application catalog on users - it simply provided a choice: install automatically Google Play and related services for initial setup or try to do without them.

A customizable quick access panel, a pre-installed browser with an ad blocker, themes (including a special simplified one), gestures on the off screen for quick access to applications, SmartTouch, scheduled power on, blocking unwanted contacts, antivirus - all this is sorted according to two dozen convenient menus. The only thing missing is the advanced settings for the notification indicator. Despite a lot of built-in features, Flyme works quickly and smoothly.

Connection

Support for the three most relevant LTE frequency bands in the post-Soviet space ensures high data transfer speeds over mobile network. No problems with the classic one either. cellular communication. During operation, you notice that automatic switching between 4G/3G bands is a little late, but this does not bring any real inconvenience.

The speaker and ringing speakers are standard in sound quality and do not stand out in anything special. Provided you use a good headset, Meizu U20 will perform well and how music player. Meizu U20 supports Wi-Fi frequencies of 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, an energy-saving version of Bluetooth 4.0. USB OTG is also supported.

The navigation capabilities of the smartphone are limited to two geopositioning systems: GPS (A-GPS) and GLONASS. As often happens, until you connect the device to the Internet, the navigation module will unsuccessfully search for satellites orbiting somewhere far above the factory where the smartphone came off the assembly line. After automatically receiving information about a satellite constellation over Russia, the situation changes dramatically for the better. Meizu U20 performs the role of a satellite navigator “perfectly”.

Battery

We are talking about a non-removable battery with a capacity of 3260 mAh, which the manufacturer offers to charge using a 5V, 2A adapter. The charging process takes just under three hours.

Flyme OS offers advanced options for flexible configuration of smartphone power consumption. It is provided here detailed statistics, separate for hardware and software power consumption, customizable presets for quick shutdown wireless interfaces. The main thing you will use is three power modes.

Following many smartphone manufacturers, Meizu also decided to expand the lineup. Simultaneously with the release of the five-inch affordable Meizu U10 device, an enlarged one was also presented Meizu U20, which will be discussed in this review.

Design

Many compare this smartphone from Meizu m3 note. Well, the comparison is quite appropriate, especially since both devices are made on the same processor and have the same 5" diagonal. But the U-series is only similar to its M-series predecessors; here we see progress precisely in terms of design. Unlike the m-series, u-devices are much more attractive, because they are made not in a metal case, but in glass on both sides. Moreover, both the front panel and the rear trim have a 2.5-in. The frame is metal. This is the first time such a solution has been used by Meizu. And I must say, it was very successful: both the junior and senior devices received a premium appearance. But the new items are also more expensive, although not much.

As with the five-inch solution, there are four colors available: white, gold, black and pink. As in the case of the younger model, the black device looks more exclusive, but the light versions do not collect fingerprints as well, or rather make them more invisible. Of course, there is an oleophobic coating and it is quite effective: the finger easily glides over the surface. But so far there are no glass devices that do not collect fingerprints at all. The rear design is similar to that of the fourth generation iPhones. As with the company's more expensive smartphones, Meizu u20 The home button has a built-in fingerprint scanner. But the 3.5 mm headphone jack is not at the top, but at the bottom, on the back side, where the micro-USB input is located, which is quite strange.

CPU

Design is the strong point of smartphones new series. But, as in the case of the Not series, the new product uses the already familiar Mediatek Helio X10, which, although it handles all trivial tasks, does not look too attractive in the eyes of experienced users. But these are nitpicking, even if you can’t play some games on ultra settings, you can play them. When buying this smartphone, you can count on moderate operation and no overheating, and this is what most users need, especially since the emphasis here is on design.

The processor works in conjunction with three gigabytes of RAM, although there is also a version with two. Here’s what won’t make buyers very happy – the 3260mAh battery. Still, 4100mAh will be a strong argument in favor of the m3 note. But, again, a thin, elegant body requires sacrifice.

Meizu U20 a new product with an eight-core processor in a thin metal case and support for 2 SIM cards and 4G LTE networks. The smartphone runs on the Android operating system, is equipped with a large 5.5-inch FullHD screen, a powerful battery, large built-in memory and large RAM.

Basic Meizu U20 characteristics: 2 SIM cards supporting 4G LTE, IPS screen diagonal 5.5 inches resolution 1920 x 1080 pixels, operating system Android, 8-core Helio P10 processor up to 1800 MHz, powerful battery capacity 3260 mAh, main 13 MP camera, 16 GB or 32 GB of internal memory.

You can buy Meizu U20 in versions with 32 GB or 16 GB of internal memory and 3 GB or 2 GB of RAM, the rest of the characteristics of the smartphone are the same. On this moment price Meizu u20 with 32 GB memory ranges from 10,500 to 16,500 rubles, the cost may change at the time of viewing the article. If you want to buy a smartphone at the lowest price and are asked to make an advance payment, then you should not order the phone from unreliable stores; before ordering, make sure that those who have already ordered write in the reviews.

The smartphone screen is made using IPS technology, has FullHD resolution and a high pixel density per inch of 400, which ensures a crystal clear picture on the display from any viewing angle. Thanks to the universal slot, Meizu U20 can be used as a real dual-SIM smartphone with support for high-speed 4G Internet; for those who want more memory, they can install one SIM card and a microSD memory card with a capacity of up to 128 GB. A smartphone for any task, a powerful 8-core processor and a large RAM allow you to work with several open applications and play latest android games. The improved fingerprint scanner can instantly recognize at an angle of up to 360 degrees, the owner does not need to remember or enter passwords, to unlock, just put your finger on the sensor and the device will identify the owner in just 1 second and unlock the Meizu U20 screen.
