Review of Xiaomi Mi5S Plus: like a camera, only even better. Review of the Xiaomi Mi5s Plus smartphone: an exemplary student of Xiaomi mi 5s plus dimensions

New smartphones from the Xiaomi brand, already loved by millions of users, with the prefix “s” and “Plus” seem to speak through the mouth of the manufacturer - I’m ready to give you 100% love and a little more So, let’s meet.

Before us is another beauty in a high-quality and stylish aluminum case.

All edges and corners of the smartphone are rounded, including protective glass screen made using 2.5D technology.

The smartphone is available in four colors – gray, silver, pink and gold.

The front panel in all colors except gray has an aristocratic white color. The smartphone in a gray case is distinguished by a black front panel.

Below the screen there is a fingerprint sensor, which also serves as a Home button, and at its edges there are two more standard touch buttons android.

On the bottom edge there is a speaker grille and a connector. USB Type-C.

The power button and volume rocker are conveniently located on the right side.

On the left side there is a slot for memory cards, and on the top there is a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

In general, the design of Xiaomi Mi5s can be described as very stylish and comfortable. Now let's look at its technical characteristics.

The smartphone screen has a diagonal of 5.15″ with a resolution of 1920x1080 (FullHD), which, together with its compactness and shape, positions it as comfortable smartphone for one hand. Of course, the image quality is at high level. The smartphone inherited the OLED matrix from its predecessor Mi5 without the “s” index.

Under the hood there is an updated 4-core Snapdragon 821 processor with a frequency of 2.15 GHz and an Adreno 530 video card. The RAM has a capacity of 3 GB, and the built-in flash memory for installing programs and games is 64 GB.

Based on the test results of the previous Mi5 model with a Snapdragon 820 processor (1.8 GHz), which scored about 84,000 points in the AnTuTu graphics test, we can confidently say that the updated model with the “s” index has very high performance, sufficient for the most difficult modern games , not to mention other tasks. This is confirmed by the results of independent tests, where Mi5s scores about 102,000 points.

The slot for Nano-SIM format SIM cards is not hybrid and, as a result, does not support the installation of memory cards. This once again emphasizes that the smartphone belongs more to the business segment than to the gaming series.

  • Wi-Fi (a/b/g/n/ac, 2.4/5 GHz)
  • Bluetooth 4.2
  • 4G (FDD-LTE 850/900/1800/2100/2600 MHz)
  • GPS/A-GPS, GLONASS, BDS

It is very good that Wi-Fi is supported in the 5 GHz band, since the 2.4 GHz frequency is already overloaded, which often leads to problems with the Internet. Another advantage is support for GLONASS, but the presence of NFC and even such a simple and familiar FM radio is not announced, although not everyone needs it.

Of the sensors, much of what the Mi5 was stuffed with remains:

  • accelerometer, gyroscope, direction sensor (for navigation and control in games)
  • magnetic compass (for navigation)
  • fingerprint sensor

However, in the updated model, the manufacturer seems to have decided to get rid of the anachronism in the form of an infrared port and a barometer. But a new technology for calculating tension has appeared, which in general is more relevant to the touchscreen. But its usefulness is so questionable that even the manufacturer himself does not advertise it.

The rear camera for photo/video shooting made by Sony has a resolution of 12 megapixels, autofocus and dual flash. The front camera has a resolution of 4 megapixels. Like other smartphones from the company, the cameras are not bad, but there are not enough stars in the sky. The quality of the images is above average.

The battery capacity is 3100 mAh, which is average, but is compensated by fast charging in just 1 hour 20 minutes. The dimensions of the smartphone are 145x70x8 mm and its weight is 147 grams.

The smartphone is running operating system Android 6 with the MIUI 7 graphical shell, which is considered one of the most convenient and beautiful.

You can purchase it in the already quite popular GearBest store. To get a big discount, use the coupon: XiaomiRGB

Despite the fact that the title previous smartphone Only the prefix “Plus” was added; this model has significant differences. What's immediately noticeable is the lack of an under-display fingerprint sensor.

In fact, it has not gone anywhere, but is located on back wall smartphone under the camera, which is also unusual.

We'll talk about the camera a little lower, but for now we'll note the infrared transmitter that has returned to the top edge and the fact that the smartphone is available in the same four colors - silver, gray, gold and pink.

In general, it also looks bright and cheerful, has a comfortable shape with rounded corners and edges, but its size is somewhat larger.

And real men will find a more strict black and gray option for themselves.

The screen has a diagonal of 5.7″ with a resolution of 1920x1080 (FullHD). That is, we already have a full-fledged phablet that can replace two devices – a smartphone and a tablet. This size is undoubtedly more suitable for watching videos and playing games.

Xiaomi Mi5s Plus is also equipped with a powerful Snapdragon 821 processor, but with even more high frequency, which is 2.35 GHz. The graphics platform has not undergone any changes, it is still the same Adreno 530. This means that gaming performance will also be at its best. The volume of RAM and internal memory is 4/64 GB, respectively. In general, there will definitely not be a shortage of RAM in the coming years.

Among the shortcomings, it can be noted that the SIM card slot is not hybrid and there is no possibility to install a memory card.

From wireless technologies supported:

  • Wi-Fi (a/b/g/n/ac, 2.4/5 GHz)
  • Bluetooth2
  • 2G (GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz)
  • 3G (WCDMA 850/900/1900/2100 MHz)
  • 4G (FDD-LTE 850/1800/2100/2600 MHz)
  • GPS/A-GPS, GLONASS, BDS
  • FM radio

In general, everything is the same, plus NFC and radio, which is good news

They also didn’t skimp on sensors, including:

  • Light sensor (for automatic brightness adjustment)
  • proximity sensor (turns off the screen during a conversation)
  • accelerometer, gyroscope (for navigation and control in games)
  • electronic compass (for navigation)
  • Orientation sensor (for auto-rotating the screen)
  • fingerprint sensor
  • infrared transmitter

The camera system has significant differences. It consists of two 13-megapixel sensors and a dual flash. One of the sensors is color, the other is black and white. There are no particular differences in daytime shots; they are still at a level above average, no more, no less. But in low light conditions, thanks to the design of the photo module, the pictures are much better.

There is nothing new to say about the front camera. It is the same as on most new Xiaomi smartphones. Its resolution is 4 megapixels, the pictures are of satisfactory quality, but for selfie lovers it may not be enough.

The battery has a good capacity of 3800 mAh, plus the function is also supported fast charging, typical for modern smartphones on the Snapdragon chipset.

Screen size and capacious battery They undoubtedly add dimensions to the smartphone, however, Xiaomi Mi5s Plus still remains quite elegant. Its dimensions are 154x77x8 mm and its weight is 168 grams. Of course, using one hand is no longer so comfortable.

The smartphone also works under Android control 6 with the MIUI 7 graphical shell, which has become the hallmark of all Xiaomi smartphones.

conclusions

Xiaomi has once again proven that it firmly guards its image in the eyes of many users by launching two new excellent flagship smartphones with exquisite style, high performance and an affordable price. We can confidently recommend them for purchase.

At the end of September, Xiaomi decided to roll out two smartphones to the market instead of one: the Mi5S Plus. If with the first everything is more or less clear - this is just an update of the spring flagship, then what the version with the Plus prefix is is not completely clear. And why does the device need two cameras? We'll talk about all this and more in Xiaomi review Mi5S Plus.

A little about positioning

Xiaomi clearly understands what the Mi5S Plus model is. This is a smartphone with top specifications, a 5.7-inch display and at a fairly reasonable price. Something intermediate between and Mi Note 2.

Pictured is Xiaomi Redmi Pro

Only in our case there are wide plastic antenna inserts at the top and bottom to match the main color.

You can feel the metal back only due to its coldness. So, it is very reminiscent of glossy plastic. I was careful with the device, so after three weeks there were no traces of use left. However, according to reviews from other users, it only scratches on the fly. Be careful.

The fingerprint scanner is recessed into the body. We'll talk more about it a little later.

The peephole of two rear cameras at once is flush with the rear surface. What kind of glass this is or whether sapphire coating may be used is not known for certain. Consequently, we conclude that there was no sapphire lying around, because the manufacturer never misses the opportunity to report on one or another of its buns.

There's a double flash nearby and... that's all. A boring, unremarkable appearance, long familiar to us from previously presented devices. I hope that from this point of view Mi Note 2 will please you more.

Mi5S Plus is sold in four colors:

Please note that only the pink case lacks perpendicular stripes on the back cover.

Fingerprint's scanner

Since it is located in a fairly convenient place and there are no engineering delights here, as in the Mi5S, the scanner works great. 10 out of 10 unlock attempts are successful.

In addition, the response speed is beyond praise. Very close to the reference one in OnePlus 3, that is, the smartphone unlocks very quickly.

The sensor can block not only the device itself, but also individual applications. We enable the corresponding item in the scanner menu, and the section itself appears in the root settings directory. A little illogical, but not scary.

The scanner was equipped with the ability to take photographs. Open the camera, touch the sensor and the photo is ready. Everything works quickly and without errors.

Scrolling through photos in the Gallery, switching tracks - all this is alien to our scanner. It’s high time for Xiaomi to spy on these features from Huawei.

Display

I have already talked about the good ratio of dimensions and 5.7-inch screen. I will only add that the side frames are also thin, so that the feelings of those suffering are in no way offended. You can even buy, just imagine, a white version!

  • diagonal 5.7 inches
  • resolution 1920 x 1080 pixels
  • dot density 386 ppi
  • contrast ratio 1300:1
  • brightness 550 nits (Mi5S 600 nits, RN4 - 450)
  • 94% NTSC compatibility

The screen is covered with 2.5D protective glass. Gorilla Glass or not, I can’t say. There is no information on this matter. But there is a high-quality oleophobic coating. You won't find fault here.

Frankly speaking, I expected that our hero would be equipped with an AMOLED matrix, as in, but here we have the most ordinary IPS panel. However, this does not mean that everything is bad. On the contrary, the screen shows itself quite well. Below are examples of photographs in which our hero is below or on the right, and LeEco Le 3 is located above or on the left.

A slight purple haze only appears at extreme viewing angles. Otherwise the display is good.

At the end of the test, I placed the corner next to it. Please note that its matrix behaves a little better at such a large viewing angle. There is no such pronounced inversion fog.

And one more photo. For mental disorders, so to speak. Below you can clearly see how the IPS matrix of the Mi5S Plus floats and how well the AMOLED panel of the Redmi Pro is doing.

Of course, there is automatic brightness adjustment, which does its job 100%. We haven’t forgotten about the special night mode, when the blue glow is removed, the screen begins to actively turn yellow, and our eyes become grateful for such careful treatment of them.

There are no special color settings here. Only standard, contrast or automatic profile. I chose the latter because I am completely satisfied with it.

As with any modern and self-respecting smartphone, there is a double tap to wake up the screen. The feature is very convenient and you should definitely take it into service.

  • support for two Nano SIM cards
  • Wi-Fi (802.11 ac), Bluetooth 4.2, NFC
  • Navigation: GPS, Glonass, Beidou

At the moment, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset is a truly flagship processor. There is nothing cooler than him. There is, of course, the Apple A10 Fusion, but since it is installed exclusively in the iPhone, it is pointless to compare both solutions head-to-head.

is an extremely productive smartphone, but this is achieved not only due to its “brains”, but also due to its highly optimized OS. This is also why the A10 Fusion is unsettled. Therefore, the QS821 can rightfully be considered the very best processor today.

The maximum possible frequency of the “stone” is 2.4 GHz. In our case, this is 2.35 GHz, which means that we have one of the most powerful devices on the market.

For those to whom this is important and who do not want to overpay for flagship hardware, Mi5S Plus will be the best existing solution. No compromises.

A little more information about the processor. It is produced using a 14 nanometer process. Coupled with Android 7.0 (update to seven, I think there will be) and the Vulkan technology supported in it, the graphics in games should reach new level. Thus, the smartphone has a maximum safety margin and will be at peak performance for at least another year.

In terms of specifications, there is only one caveat - there is no support for the FDD-LTE 20 band. Depending on the region, different domestic operators use it, so perhaps for some this will be a critical moment. I didn’t have any problems with MTS in the Kaluga region. 4G worked fully. 4G+ did not light up even once, although this happened on other devices. Additional proof of what was stated above.

Why did I call this smartphone a tourist smartphone in the title of the review? It's simple. It is ideal as a navigator and has good camera- what else does a tourist need from a smartphone? I specifically asked for Mi 5s Plus to test during my week-long vacation - and I was right.

Price

Battery

The battery capacity seems to be quite impressive - 3800 mAh. On the other hand, the device is quite big. With what bigger screen, the more electricity it consumes.

However, the battery test results are 180% of the standard. The result is excellent. It is very difficult to discharge in a day. Xiaomi went on vacation with me, where, as usual, I chaotically moved around an unfamiliar area, actively using the navigator and frantically photographing everything that could not be eaten or drunk with the same smartphone. Somehow I managed to discharge the Mi 5s to thirty percent. But it was a bright, clear day, so the screen brightness was at or near maximum.

Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus as a flashlight

Flash brightness in flashlight mode is slightly above average. Not bad, the road can be illuminated.

Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus as a photo and video camera

The traditional question is: can the smartphone being tested replace a digital point-and-shoot camera? IN in this case- definitely yes. I brought back almost eight hundred photographs from a week-long vacation. I'm happy with the quality. I understand that it can be better. But... However, what can I say. There are examples below in the text. Look, think.

The camera is interesting. It's double. More precisely, there are two rear cameras. One, the main one, takes ordinary color photographs. The second - monochrome - is turned off by default. For the second camera to work, you need to turn on the “Stereo” mode - click on the aperture icon in the camera interface. (Why the mode is named like that and why this particular icon is used is a mystery to me. But, probably, there is some logic in it). And in the “Stereo” mode, the final picture, according to some cunning algorithm, is formed from pictures received from two cameras.

What is important to know. Regular shooting with one camera, even in HDR mode, is fast. As it should be for a smartphone with such hardware. Click - done. Shooting "Stereo" is much more leisurely. Something on the order of a second per frame, if not more. On the question of why smartphones need powerful processors and fast memory. Or is time spent not on creating a picture from two, but on something else? Don't know.

The results are interesting. Night “stereo” shots, for my taste, turn out better than shots with one camera, even if that one camera works in “night” mode.

During the day, I usually didn’t turn on “stereo”, leaving the camera in automatic HDR mode. Yes, daytime “stereos” also sometimes turn out to be quite interesting. Less bright and more natural, perhaps. If you're not in a hurry, it makes sense to experiment, take a picture this way and that, then leisurely compare at your leisure and leave the best one. But wait a second per frame? This is too much. Everything tasty and interesting will have time to run away/fall/fly away/drive away from the frame.

And, in fact, what is really missing is a mode in which the smartphone would immediately take a regular auto photo, HDR and “stereo” in bulk and save all three of them side by side. I would love to use it sometimes.

Go ahead, let's look at the photos. There will be a lot of them today. Signatures, if any, are located above corresponding pictures.

We honestly tested the new product. Yes it is Phone 7 Plus clone- only on Android.

In pursuit of ghostly trends, Xiaomi released two near-flagship devices. The regular Mi5s is a logical continuation of the Mi5 line with an attempt to copy the new features of Google and Apple: a cool camera, a fingerprint sensor hidden under glass.

More advanced Mi5s Plus differs from its successful small-sized brother in every way. And it seems only dual camera can claim to be a successful change.

Appearance

Already the first glance at the flagship brings unpleasant things disappointment: instead of the updated design of the younger model, we are greeted by the familiar outlines of the Redmi line. In a strange design - the 4th series has not yet been updated, but they are no longer as round as in the 3rd.

The fingerprint sensor is hidden on the back panel, just below the camera. The strange decision can be justified by the increased dimensions - for a 5.7-inch device, this location of the scanner may be more convenient. But there is the iPhone 7 Plus, which proved the opposite!

It's nice that it's closer to the ends back panel wraps up. This makes the grip more comfortable than Xiaomi Max. At the same time, the upper and lower ends seem to be chopped off - it looks fresh and stylish.

At the bottom there are two grilles, behind one of which, as always, is a microphone, behind the second is a speaker. The top panel is equipped with an IR sensor (for controlling home appliances) and an ordinary 3.5 mm jack.

Front surface fully covered with glass with edges made using 2.5D technology. The front camera and sensors are hidden on top. Below are touch keys with non-customizable backlight.

Xiaomi Mi5s Plus is one of the most thin company's smartphones. At least without measurements. The line of 6.44-inch Max smartpeds evokes approximately the same feelings: big and thin.

Display

For the screen of the flagship smartped, Xiaomi engineers chose a 5.7-inch IPS panel with FullHD resolution without an air gap (OGS).

The pixel density is approximately 386 PPI. Individual points cannot be seen even with very careful examination.

Fading or inversion is not observed as a class even at extreme viewing angles. So high quality color rendering is more typical for AMOLED.

It may seem oversaturated - but not like the Xiaomi Redmi Pro. Unpleasant sensations can be easily corrected with system settings. Not every 2K display has this quality, let alone FullHD.

Hardware and multimedia capabilities

Like all the latest smartphones, Xiaomi Mi5S Plus runs on the platform Qualcomm Snapdragon 821. Two cores with frequencies up to 2.35 GHz and two more - up to 2.2 GHz. Graphics - Adreno 530. Yes, my desktop is slower!

Xiaomi offers customers a wide range of designs with different amounts of memory. There are options (RAM/ROM): 4/64 GB, 6/64 GB, 6/128 GB. The younger option seems to be the most correct solution. But Xiaomi Mi5s Plus is not equipped with a memory card slot.

Of course, the filling corresponds to the best positions of synthetic tests. More precisely - tears everyone to shreds. Except iPhone 7 and OnePlus 3T.

In practice, the power may seem somewhat excessive - even devices with older processors cope with any task. It remains to count on the future.

The sound of Mi5s Plus in headphones is at the level of competitors equipped with latest processors Snapdragon. But it’s worth taking care of quality headphones.

The sound in the speakers and microphone provide high-quality voice transmission in telephone conversations and various chats. There are no problems when playing a ringtone even at the highest volume. Although you can’t use a smartphone as a boombox, it’s still not strong enough.

Xiaomi Mi5s Plus, despite its Chinese origin, feels confident in Russian cellular networks. Internet speed is excellent - of course, within the capabilities of the provider.

Other wireless interfaces correspond to flagship status - there is dual-band Wi-Fi on board and bluetooth module 4.2, and an infrared port standard for all Xiaomi.

Satellite positioning systems are fully supported. A cold start takes no more than 30 seconds, and a hot start is almost unnoticeable - as if it had never been turned off.

Software and firmware

As an operating room Xiaomi systems Mi5s Plus uses MIUI 8, based on Android 6 Marshmallow. Unlike the recently reviewed Xiaomi Redmi Pro, global firmware is available in Russian.

True, the international version also contains Chinese software from various Xiaomi partner services. There are also proprietary applications of the company: Mi Home, Mi Store and others.

Camera

Xiaomi Mi5S Plus uses a dual camera. It consists of two identical modules at 13.0 M with a maximum aperture of f/2.0. Eat phase detection autofocus and two-color flash.

Perhaps, Mi5s Plus is the only Xiaomi smartphone (besides Mi5s) suitable for photography. He is equally successful in taking pictures in artificial and natural light.

Photos at twilight and during night photography are also an order of magnitude higher than most of the company’s smartphones. Getting a high-quality photo the first time is quite difficult. But after a little work with the application, it is quite possible to take a successful shot.

As front camera a 4.0 megapixel module is used using technology UltraPixel with f/2.0 aperture and wide-angle lens.

Battery life

Despite its flagship status, Xiaomi Mi5s Plus is not deprived of a battery - although it is precisely this parameter that turns out to be the most disastrous among Chinese “flagship killers”. Take the same OnePlus 3T.

The new product is equipped with a non-removable lithium-ion battery capacity 3,800 mAh. The screen makes the greatest contribution to energy consumption: in airplane mode and constantly updated book pages, the Mi5s Plus can work until 11 o'clock.

In maximum load mode (3D game with 4G turned on), the smartphone was able to survive for almost 5.5 hours. Watching videos over Wi-Fi at half brightness wastes battery life. 9 o'clock. Surfing with 4G with the same backlight makes using a smartphone orderly 8-9 hours.

Of course, in real use, a smartphone can last a day, or even less. But using a native power supply that supports QC 3.0 fast charging replenish battery from 1 to 100% is possible in an hour.

Conclusions and personal impressions

The smartphone turned out to be extremely successful and balanced. Excellent assembly, high-quality components (especially the screen), powerful filling allow us to recommend Xiaomi Mi5s Plus as a purchase with a reserve for a couple of years.

In 2016, Xiaomi took a rather long break before releasing a number of top-end smartphones, among which was the Mi5s Plus, the senior model in the flagship line. It was he who could become the most serious competitor for the Galaxy Note 7, but Samsung would not have suffered a fiasco. Therefore, now Xiaomi Mi5s Plus has practically no rivals in its class.

Under the smartphone we find only Charger 1.5A with Chinese plug, USB cable Type-C, SIM card ejector, documentation. The only additional accessories here are a transparent plastic case. The charger supports fast charging option.

Design

Xiaomi designers have spent a lot of effort to release an attractive update to the line. Xiaomi Mi5s Plus is a classic all-in-one with rounded corners on the back panel, which is also made of brushed metal. The material is pleasant to the touch, looks stylish and at first it seems that using the smartphone will be comfortable and it will not slip out of your hands.

The Xiaomi flagship was presented in a strict design, without any innovative elements. The monolithic case is not collapsible, so you should think in advance about the fact that you will receive a non-removable battery. There are noticeable plastic inserts on the back that are needed to improve signal quality. They are almost impossible to distinguish by touch.

We can only speak compliments about the quality of the assembly - no backlashes or creaks, all parts are of high quality, perfectly adjusted to each other. However, the back panel does slip a little and will show fingerprints over time.

The dimensions of the smartphone do not allow for comfortable use with one hand, even despite the minimal bezels of the 5.7-inch screen. The only way out can be found in the settings and enable the function of resizing the working area of the display.

The display occupies almost the entire front panel of the smartphone and is protected by tempered 2.5D glass. There is an oleophobic coating that protects against fingerprints.
All buttons are located in the usual places. Above the screen on the front panel there is a front camera model, in the center there is a speaker mesh, light and proximity sensors, led indicator notifications.

Below the display there is a row of touch control keys. They are illuminated with white backlighting and have a vibration response.
A dual-camera module is installed on the rear panel, next to it there is a dual LED flash, as well as a fingerprint scanner. As for the latter, its error rate is minimal and it works quickly.

On right side The case has an on/off button and a volume rocker. They are metal, the pressure is distinct, with a click. There is no backlash.

On the left side there is only a slot for two nano-SIM cards. There is no microSD support here.

On the top edge there are: an additional microphone, a 3.5 mm AUX jack for a headset/headphones, and an infrared port.

At the bottom of the case there is a USB Type-C port for connecting a charger or for synchronization, as well as two speaker arrays and the main microphone.

Display

Xiaomi Mi5s Plus received a 5.7-inch Full HD display with IPS matrix, without an air gap. The dot density reaches 386 ppi, so we won’t see any unpleasant artifacts in the image.

The viewing angles of the screen are large, there is no fading or distortion effect at maximum tilt. Color reproduction is normal, although with default settings it is noticeable that the colors are oversaturated. The white color may turn yellowish, but this can be corrected by adjusting the white balance settings.

The display sensor recognizes up to 10 touches simultaneously.

The maximum screen brightness is average. There are no complaints about the contrast of the picture. Outdoors the screen remains readable even in bright sunlight. There is a good anti-reflective coating here.

Performance

Xiaomi Mi5s Plus runs on a quad-core Snapdragon 821 processor with two clusters: 2 Kryo cores with a frequency of 2.35 GHz and two more cores with a frequency of 2.2 GHz. The Adreno 530 graphics accelerator is installed. When purchasing, you can choose one of several smartphone options that differ in volume random access memory– 4GB or 6GB.

For example, the version with 4GB of RAM showed the following results in benchmarks:

  • AnTuTu – 157291 points
  • Geekbench – 1842/4405 points

All results are impressive and close to the maximum in the ranking. It turns out that Xiaomi offers the most affordable package of productive hardware. Definitely the power reserve will last for a long time. Any applications, even the most demanding ones, will work quickly. Xiaomi Mi5s Plus copes with multitasking “excellently”. Switching between applications is instant.
WITH powerful games the flagship also “flies”. There were no lags or image stuttering in any of the tested games. At heavy load heating is a little noticeable.
RAM speed is excellent – 15.7 GB/s, read write speed internal memory– 465/173 MB/s. UFS 2.0 type memory is installed.

OS

Xiaomi Mi5s Plus runs on MIUI 8, Android 6. If you get a smartphone with international firmware, then there is full support Russian language and all necessary preinstalled Google services. All updates will then come via OTA.

The advantage is the absence of unnecessary pre-installed applications. Recently, MIUI has made significant progress in performance, optimization and stability. The interface has become simpler and more convenient. Xiaomi branded applications have received more functions. Initially there are no root rights.

Camera

The Mi5s Plus has two Sony IMX258 modules installed at once: the first is a 13-megapixel standard, the second is a 13-megapixel monochrome, each with an f/2.0 aperture. This camera is also installed in Xiaomi Redmi Pro. This solution allows you to get excellent detail and high-quality color reproduction, but it is better not to use the HDR mode - the colors look unnatural. However, overall the photo quality is very good.

If we compare the shooting quality of the Mi5s Plus camera with the Mi5s camera, then the dynamic range leaves much to be desired, the image turns out to be too light or dark, depending on the lighting conditions. At poor lighting The ISO value immediately increases, the picture becomes blurry.

In theory, the dual main camera should have been the highlight of the Xiaomi Mi5s Plus, but it has some unpleasant moments. When “stereo mode” is activated, a second 13-megapixel monochrome module is connected to shooting. At the same time, the shutter response time increases significantly, but the photo quality remains the same. In this mode, you cannot even adjust the background brightness. Unfortunately, there is practically no difference between simple shooting and shooting in stereo mode.

The smartphone did not receive either optical camera image stabilization or electronic one. Perhaps something will change after a firmware update.

The front 4-megapixel camera here is the same as in Mi5s.

The smartphone records video with excellent quality, the sound is pleasant, stereo. There is a limitation for shooting in 4k – no more than 25 fps. However, autofocus is adequate and there is rarely a need to use a tripod.

Xiaomi Mi5s Plus will appeal to those who like to take photos or videos during the day. We hope that the camera will soon have electronic image stabilization.

Battery

Time battery life Xiaomi Mi5s Plus was a pleasant surprise. The smartphone received a battery with a capacity of 3800 mAh. Considering that the smartphone has a 5.7-inch screen, 2 days with intense load is a very good result.

During 2 days of testing, the DOT (display-on time) function worked for 7-8 hours, benchmarks were launched, GPS worked, and the smartphone’s performance in games was checked. In the PCMark battery test, the smartphone was able to last 9 hours – the screen brightness was set to medium.

The charging speed is fast, any charger that supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 will do - the battery will be charged by 20% every 15 minutes. From 80% to 100% charging occurs in 30 minutes. Thus, the process of fully recharging the Xiaomi Mi5s Plus battery will require 1.5 hours of waiting.

Xiaomi Mi5s Plus turned out quality smartphone, with numerous advantages: the camera takes good pictures during the day, the quality of signal reception allows you to forget about interference, the battery life is even surprising.
