Tablet computers Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0. Smartphones have one or more front cameras of various designs - pop-up camera, rotating camera, cutout or hole in the display, under-display camera

The tablet's 8-inch screen is very convenient; it is not small, but at the same time small. Due to their small size, such portable devices fit even into a small bag and inside jacket pockets. At the same time, the designated diagonal allows you to comfortably watch movies, read books and browse the Internet.

However, build quality and optimization also play an important role when choosing, because a convenient form factor will not protect the user from glitches and quick breakdowns. Therefore, we decided to review 8-inch Samsung tablets Galaxy Tab, because it is the Koreans who are among the the best manufacturers portable devices.

Samsung 8-inch tablets – rating 2018

Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 SM-T355 16 GB

Low price, beautiful appearance and good build– all this applies to the Galaxy Tab A 8.0 SM-T355. The device is distinguished by a simple “filling”, represented by Adreno 306 graphics and a Snapdragon 410 processor. This is not enough for games, but the device copes with all other tasks without problems. Among the significant disadvantages in reviews of the tablet, buyers highlight only the low resolution of 1024x768 pixels. At a cost of 12,000 rubles, I would like to see an HD display. In addition, it would hardly increase the load on the installed hardware.

Advantages:

  • presence of a SIM card slot and network support fourth generation
  • The battery lasts for a confident day of work
  • excellent system performance in any task
  • good brightness reserve and stable operation in the 4G network

Flaws:

  • low pixel density
  • cameras leave much to be desired
  • suspended value

Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 SM-T385 16 GB

Next up is another good 8-inch tablet from Samsung from the A line. For a few extra thousand, the user will receive a resolution of 1280x800 pixels, a 425 processor from Qualcomm, as well as Adreno 308 graphics. Such “stuffing” with an HD screen can even cope with some modern games. An important advantage of the device is also a slot for nano SIM and support for all LTE bands common in the Russian Federation. The battery of the tablet computer is also not satisfactory, because the device can run on it for about 14 hours with continuous video playback. This device could not become an ideal tablet computer only because of the lack of a fingerprint scanner and backlit touch keys.

Advantages:

  • excellent color rendition and high display brightness
  • uninterrupted operation in 4G networks
  • productive hardware platform
  • lasts a very long time on one charge
  • fresh operating system
  • build quality
  • can be used as a smartphone

Flaws:

  • no backlighting of buttons under the screen
  • no fingerprint scanner

Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 SM-T705 16 GB

If an 8-inch screen diagonal is just a little short of ideal for you, then the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 is your choice. The tablet has a first-class display with a resolution of 2560x1600 pixels (Super AMOLED Plus technology), characterized by a high brightness reserve. Other advantages of the device under review include an infrared port, a micro SIM tray and stereo speakers, which provide decent sound even by modern standards. The tablet works quickly, but taking into account the not the most energy-efficient hardware and the high resolution of the matrix, the battery should be installed more than 4900 mAh.

Advantages:

  • the design of the device remains relevant to this day
  • clear, bright and true-to-color matrix
  • There is a cell phone mode, IRDA and stereo speakers
  • smooth operation in everyday tasks
  • good quality cameras
  • built-in fingerprint scanner

Flaws:

  • When loaded, the battery lasts for a maximum of 3 hours of use
  • for its cost, 16 GB of built-in storage is not enough by today's standards

Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 8.0 SM-T360 16 GB

Most tablets quickly become unusable even after minor impacts. What can we say about contact with sand or water, which are almost always detrimental to electronic components. However, for the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 8.0, none of these problems exist. This rugged tablet has a reinforced design that can withstand serious drops. The device is also not afraid of immersion in sand and liquid, so you can take it with you on vacation. Another advantage of Galaxy Tab Active 8.0 is a bundled stylus that not only improves the usability of the device in some scenarios, but is also suitable for creative people.

Advantages:

  • convenient design and excellent protection of the case from dust and water
  • good stylus included with the device
  • great display if you don't need high ppi
  • there is an NFC module and good stereo speakers
  • Availability of 4G and phone functions
  • unique design

Flaws:

  • Android version 4.4
  • dim display – in the sun the matrix does not have enough brightness

Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 SM-T719 LTE 32 GB

A combination of great design, impressive power, incredible convenience and affordable price. This is exactly what the 8-inch can offer you Tablet PC Galaxy Tab C2, offered in Russian stores from 23 thousand rubles. Wonderful display with a resolution of 2048 by 1536 pixels, made using technology Super AMOLED, as well as a very powerful hardware platform, suitable even for modern games, make this device a very attractive solution for any task. In addition, there is also a SIM card tray, so you can access the Internet from the tablet and make calls just like from a regular mobile phone anywhere.

Advantages:

  • lightness, compactness and recognizable appearance
  • good autonomy indicators
  • gorgeous matrix and excellent ergonomics
  • if you like to play, then the device will also please you
  • Read SD cards up to 128 GB
  • excellent combination of parameters and cost

Flaws:

  • plastic cover scratches easily
  • mediocre main camera without flash

Which 8-inch tablet from Samsung should I buy?

Each user purchases equipment for a specific purpose. Game lovers want access to their favorite entertainment even when away from the computer. In this case, the ideal solution would be Galaxy tablet Tab S2. If you often travel or love hiking, but you don’t want to be left without communication, then among the Samsung tablets with an 8-inch screen presented above, we recommend choosing a device with the “Active” prefix. As for students, schoolchildren, office workers and other average users, the South Korean brand produces wonderful devices for them as part of the A line.

Review

I bought it 2 weeks ago. On the first day, I was surprised that the home button area was getting very hot, although I didn’t have time to install anything and was tinkering with the settings. Then I noticed more heating on the rear side panel in the area of the volume buttons. Now it seems to be easier with this, either I’m used to it, or it heats up less). Appearance Stylish, good quality, quality of materials is good, although budget ones have better plastic. I liked that it came with the office package, a good standard video and audio player, and a bright, nice-to-touch display. I'm pleased with the reading mode, where the screen takes on a yellowish tint and is less straining on the eyes. Android immediately offered to upgrade to Android 6, although I liked the pre-installed one better. I did not observe any serious brakes. Screen resolution: you don’t get pleasure from watching movies (I compare it with the “Explay Imperium 8” tablet with FullHD for 8 thousand rubles), the picture is not clear, there are huge black frames due to the aspect ratio, the tablet is clearly not for cinema. The display is dirty, there are a lot of marks on the screen, I constantly clean it, I need a film. As for the Internet, I won’t say that such a screen is more convenient than 16:9, depending on who you are. And the sound is good, loud speaker, I was also pleased with the sound quality in the headphones, good sound settings. Regarding performance, a 5GB and 1080p movie hangs mercilessly in MXplayer and AC3 Player; in the standard player it runs without lags, but without sound (there is no AC3 codec). Perhaps there is still something to be configured here, although I have not found a solution. I didn’t run any heavy games, but I can just play with them. The menu does not freeze, the video is on VK full screen mode They slow down and stop, although there are no problems with communication, nor with YouTube. There is not enough flash on the camera and backlights touch buttons, in the dark sometimes I miss. The front one has no focus, the quality of both cameras is poor compared to the previous Chinese one (it had 8 and 5 megapixels). There is not enough compass for Stellarium, but it is possible without it. There are no problems with communication, everything is caught. The battery lasts 2 days quietly in Internet use and infrequent games. It takes 4 hours to charge. I have not tested the navigator yet. I called from it once, the audibility is weak. In general, this device is not bad, but it’s not worth the price, I got it cheaper - and I advise you). Despite so many shortcomings, the tablet is of good quality and I hope it will last a long time. The previous Explay, although it was your performance and camera, died after six months, the money was returned.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 is part of the line of mid-price tablets launched by Samsung in May 2015. The device has balanced characteristics, which are quite enough for high-quality video and traveling on the Internet. Works under Android control 5.0, significantly modified and supplemented by specialists from the Korean company. In particular, the line of tablets is equipped with multi-window (a feature that is not yet typical for Android). Compete with premium devices like Nexus 9 this tablet can’t, but it can easily compete with the Lenovo IdeaTab A5500.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 technical specifications overview

As befits the “middle peasant”, Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.0 does not have shocking characteristics, but has quite good equipment.

1. A powerful CPU with a frequency of 1200 MHz and 4 cores, which is perfectly suited to the needs of Android 5.0, in which the developers have improved work with multi-core processors.
2. Modest 1.5 GB of RAM, which is enough for most applications, but almost back to back. Especially when it comes to “heavy” office packages from Microsoft, which will eat up 80% of the memory available after booting the system.
3. Adreno 306 graphics processor, quite acceptable not only for video and the Internet, but also for various games, including 3D.
4. A fairly bright and high-quality screen with a TFT PLS matrix, the diagonal of which is 8 inches. At the same time, the screen resolution of 1024x768 allows you to achieve a density of 160 PPI.
5. Wide range of connectivity options Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 to various networks and wireless interfaces including 3G and LTE.
6. A nice bonus: there is a slot for installing memory expansion cards, you can install cards up to 128 GB.

One of the main advantages of the updated Samsung line, including Galaxy Tab A 8.0, is a light weight. The device weighs only 320g, which is comparable to some phones. This means that this tablet is easy to hold and convenient to use. Not a bad solution for every day.

Are you ready for the Samsung ecosystem?

Buying Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0, it should be borne in mind that this is far from pure Android 5.0. Koreans harbor dreams of creating their own Samsung ecosystem (their own application market, their own OS improvements, their own update system, etc.). On the one hand, there appear additional features. But in some cases, we would like devices to be more closely tied to the original state of the OS.

Main characteristics

Device type:

2G standards:

Standard mobile communications defines the technologies used and the principle of constructing mobile communication networks. Mobile communication networks are usually divided into analog (NMT, AMPS) and digital (D-AMPS, GSM, CDMA, WCDMA, UMTS), and also classified by generation (generation) stages of development of the standards themselves.
GSM(Global System for Mobile Communications) - the most popular and widespread standard cellular communication second generation 2G almost all over the world. In our country, as in most European countries, under this standard frequencies of 900 and 1800 MHz are allocated. In the countries of the American continent, it is customary to use frequencies of 850 and 1900 MHz.
The widespread introduction of GSM to replace outdated analogue networks has made it possible to significantly expand the subscriber base and the range of services provided, making cellular communications widely available. However, the specifics of GSM limit the services currently in demand based on high-speed Internet access.

GSM 1800 / GSM 1900 / GSM 850 / GSM 900

3G standards:

3G(Third Generation) - Third generation mobile communication technologies based on packet data transmission. Third generation 3G networks usually operate in the range of about 2 GHz, allowing data transfer at a speed comparable to a dedicated home Internet. In addition to standard voice services telephony, 3G networks are initially focused on various multimedia services, such as video telephony and video conferencing, online viewing terrestrial television and movies, listening to Internet radio, etc. The most common third generation communication standard is WCDMA (UMTS), operating in most European countries, incl. in Russia and CIS countries.

UMTS 2100 / UMTS 900 / UMTS 850 / UMTS 1900

4G standards (LTE):

4G (Fourth generation)- The fourth generation of mobile communications, characterized by high data transfer speeds and improved quality of voice communications. Fourth generation networks include technology mobile transmission data LTE(Long Term Evolution). Data transfer speeds using the LTE standard theoretically reach 173 Mbit/s for reception (download), and 58 Mbit/s for upload (upload).

LTE 1900 / LTE 1800 / LTE 2100 / LTE 850 / LTE 2600 / LTE 800

SIM card generation:

Each new generation of SIM cards is smaller than the previous one. Format Mini-SIM(2FF) appeared in the 1990s and is now used primarily in simple push-button phones. Cards Micro-SIM(3FF) have been used in smartphones since 2003 to this day. Nano-SIM(4FF) - the most compact map, installed in modern smart devices. eSIM is a chip built into the device onto which a virtual SIM card can be written. This format Not supported by all carriers.

Number of SIM cards:

Accumulator battery:

The difference in the chemical composition of batteries determines their physical and consumer parameters.
Ni-Cd(Nickel - Cadmium) and Ni-Mh(Nickel - Metal Hydride) batteries are quite heavy and bulky. Being not completely discharged before recharging, they are prone to loss of capacity (memory effect), and therefore require periodic maintenance (charge-discharge, so-called training).
Against, Li-Ion(Lithium Ion) and Li-Pol(Lithium - Polymer) batteries do not have these disadvantages. However, they lose their charge faster at low temperatures and have poor resistance to drops. Ease of maintenance and comparatively smaller size and weight were decisive factors for their active use.

Using two, three or even four modules allows you to take wide-format photographs, photograph distant objects and achieve the effect of artistic background blur - bokeh.

Autofocus:

Flash:

Designed for short-term and intense illumination of objects during shooting. IN cell phones It can be xenon (which is based on an electric gas-discharge lamp filled with xenon) or LED (LEDs act as a light source).

Communications and interfaces

WiFi:

WiFi(IEEE 802.11) is a high-speed wireless connection technology aimed at building corporate, private or public networks. The technology is based on the use of so-called multiple access points (hot-spots), to which client terminals are connected. Wi-Fi technology is described by many specifications (standards), which is reflected in their name by the last letter (for example, IEEE 802.11g).
On the base Wi-Fi technology Public Internet access points have been created in cafes, hotels, airports and other places. Connecting a device to such points is as simplified as possible and requires entering a network identifier (SSID), username and password.

Bluetooth module:

Technology Bluetooth implements wireless connection devices over a secure radio channel in the 2.4 GHz band. The technology is based on the use of profiles (services) as tools for performing specific tasks (audio gateway, hands-free, headset, file transfer, dial-up networking, serial port, etc.). Each profile contains a specific set of operations and defines possible areas of interaction between devices.
With a Bluetooth connection, devices can be located at a distance of up to ten meters from each other, and therefore, the development of wireless accessories is one of the prerogatives of this technology.

Bluetooth support stereo:

bluetooth stereo or A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) - profile or bluetooth service, designed to transmit music in stereo sound. Devices that support the A2DP profile allow you to listen to music using wireless bluetooth headphones, thereby freeing you from the limitations of traditional wired stereo headsets.

Connection to PC:

By connecting the device to personal computer, you can quickly and conveniently edit telephone records or organizer notes, save important SMS messages on your PC or backups contents of the device, download various pictures, melodies, photos or video clips, go online.
Depending on the characteristics of the device, connection to a PC is carried out using an interface cable, infrared port, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi modules.

Audio jack:

Type of connector for connecting external audio devices (wired headsets, headphones, speakers). In many modern smartphones A universal connector is used for audio output, charging and data transfer, for example, USB Type-C or Lightning.

Messages

Satellite navigation:

GPS(Global Positioning System) is a satellite navigation system that provides measurements of distance, time, speed and determines the location of objects anywhere on Earth. The system is developed, implemented and operated by the US Department of Defense. The basic principle of using the system is to determine location by measuring distances to an object from points with known coordinates - satellites. The distance is calculated by the delay time of signal propagation from sending it by the satellite to receiving it by the antenna of the GPS receiver.
GLONASS(Global Navigation Satellite System) - Soviet and Russian satellite navigation system, developed by order of the USSR Ministry of Defense. The measurement principle is similar to the American GPS navigation system. GLONASS is designed for operational navigation and timing support for land, sea, air and space-based users. The main difference from the GPS system is that GLONASS satellites in their orbital motion do not have resonance (synchrony) with the rotation of the Earth, which provides them with greater stability.
