While cleaning out my house, I came across my audio CD collection of albums by amazing bands like Pink Floyd, Rush and The Beatles. I got nostalgic and decided I wanted to rip some CDs and listen to some great music in high quality audio format. For those of you who don't know, CD ripping means copying songs from a CD to HDD your computer or to another location in a format different from that in which they are stored on the CD. Here's how to rip CDs quickly and reliably in Windows using Windows Media Player.

Step 1: Take the audio CD and place it in your CD/DVD/Blu-Ray drive

You may have old computer with Windows 7 or new with Windows 10, which has DVD drive or Blu-Ray. Take the audio CD you want to rip and place it in your computer's CD/DVD or Blu-Ray drive.

You should hear the disk spinning, indicating that the drive is reading its contents.

Step 2: Start Windows Media Player and get access to audio CD

The next step is to launch Windows Media Player. One of quick ways to do this is to use the search function. Type "Windows Media Player" into the search field and click the corresponding search result.

IN Windows application Media Player click or tap on the name of the audio CD you connected to your computer. In my case, I'm going to make a great album that made me fall in love with Pink Floyd: The Division Bell. For each track, you should see its number, title, length and artist.

If you have an ancient audio CD with no track information, you can right-click anywhere in the track list and click Find Album Info. Windows Media Player can help you find the missing information. If this is not possible, you can edit the information yourself, enter the name of each track, etc.

Step 3. Select Audio Format to Rip CD

By default, Windows Media Player plays your MP3 music with low-quality audio settings. You may not want this. Click or tap the copy settings button in the toolbar, go to Format, and select the audio format you prefer.

What is the best format for ripping audio CDs? It depends on you. If you are an audiophile, you should choose FLAC (Lossless) as it provides best quality sound. However, this format takes up a lot of disk space. For most people MP3 will be best choice, also because it is compatible with a variety of devices, including car stereos.

NOTE. If you are using Windows 7, the FLAC option will not be available as a copy format in Windows Player Media. This format is available on Windows 10.

Step 4: Select the sound quality you prefer

If you choose MP3 or a format other than FLAC, you should also set the audio quality. In Windows Media Player, click or tap Copy options, then select Sound Quality and the quality you prefer. For MP3 audio tracks, we recommend choosing 320 kbps as it provides the best audio quality available for this format.

One thing to remember is that the higher the sound quality you choose, the better the music sounds when you listen to it. However, it is also going to take up more storage space. Therefore, it is best to choose the audio quality that provides the best balance between audio quality and storage capacity.

By Windows default Media Player rips your audio CDs to your music library. You can change the location of your ripped music. To do this, click or tap Copy Settings and then More Options.

In the Options window, under the Copy Music tab, see the Copy music to this location box. It shows the place where all your music will be torn. To change it, click the "Edit" button on the right, go to Right place and click "OK".

The default file name used for your ripped music is the song name. For example, you can copy a track named "11-High Hopes.mp3". If you want file names to include things like the artist name or album title and change the order of the items, click the File Name button in the Options window.

Next, check the information you want to include in the file names: Artist, Album, Track Number, Song Title, Genre, and Bit Rate. Then use the Up and Down buttons on the right to change their order and choose the delimiter you want: space, dash, period, underscore or none. When you are finished setting, click or tap OK.

Click OK again in the Options window.

Step 6: Insert the audio CD into your Windows computer

You have now configured the copy process to suit your preferences. Click the Copy CD button.

The copying process begins and you can see the status for each track. You can stop copying at any time by clicking the Stop Copying button.

In just a few minutes, all your audio tracks should be copied and stored on your Windows computer, in the folder you installed. Now it's time to listen to your music collection with high-quality audio settings. Enjoy the nostalgia of the old days when audio CDs were the way you listened to music. 🙂

How to copy music from a CD to your computer

Very often (almost always) music on a CD is protected from copying. If you open a CD, you will notice that all “tracks” have a volume of less than 1 KB - usually 44 bytes. At simple copying to the hard drive, it is these music “shortcuts” (CD tracks) that will be copied, and not the mp3 files.

In the screenshot: labels for mp3 files on a disc with Celine Dion's album.

There are many grabber programs that read and write music CDs, write-protected - I personally have enough of the good AudioGrabber program, which has many fine adjustments. However, it is quite possible to get by standard Windows Media Player that comes with the Windows operating system.

How to Rip Music from a CD to Your Computer Using Windows Media Player

If you have removed the Media Player program shortcut from your desktop, you can launch it from the menu: “Start” - “All Programs” - “Windows Media Player”.

Insert the CD or DVD into the drive and select “Copy from disk” in the main menu of the Media Player program.

We choose whether or not to enable copy protection and understand “that music... is protected by copyright laws...”. Then click “OK”.

Copying audio files to your hard drive begins...

By default, a folder with album music is created in standard folder“My Music” on drive C. You can get to it through the “My Documents” folder or through the menu: “Start” - “My Music”.

Here you can see that the copied files have normal “megabit” sizes.

Unfortunately, the files were copied in the Windows wma format, which is not loaded into Liru’s posts. But we have an old friend -

Do you ever need download or copy the disc to your computer?

For example, you were given a loan dvd disk with some files (videos, games, music, documents, etc.) that need to be returned quickly, and there is no time to look at everything at once.

Let's say you need to quickly copy one thing from a disk, for example, download a video or game from a disk to a computer. Or you need to copy music from a disk to your computer. Or do you need copy the disk to the computer in its entirety.

Another reason why it may be necessary copy dvd disc to computer, this is if you are going to often use information from the disk. In this case, completely copying the disk to a computer and launching the already copied disk from your PC protects the disk itself and the drive (disk drive) from frequent use.

In addition, the launch speed of files already on the computer is higher than the launch speed of the same files launched from a disk through a floppy drive.

To understand how to copy files from disk to computer I’ll look at this process using the example of two different disks. First let's see how to copy a disk " Osteochondrosis – No» in the operating room Windows system 7, and then we'll figure out how to copy files from another CD in Windows XP.

How to copy from a disk to a computer in Window 7

So, first, let’s look at copying the “Osteochondrosis – No” disc in Windows 7.

I am selling this disc at separate page Here .

Therefore, this article is also additional help and instruction for my clients who buy the physical disk version of the course and who need to download the disk to their computer for easy learning.

Insert the disc into the drive. Go to the Start menu -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Explorer:

On the left side of Explorer we find the disk that was inserted into the drive and click on it with the left mouse button. A list of all folders and files located on the disk will appear on the right side.

Now to copy all these files i.e. the entire disk to your computer, you must first select all these files. Let's use hotkeys. To do this, you can simply press the combination on your keyboard:

Thus, we select all files:

Yes, the files are selected.

Now for copying we use another combination of hot keys - :

Thanks to this function, all selected files are temporarily stored by the computer (the computer places them in its Clipboard). And now you need to find a place on your computer where to save all these disk files.

To do this, create a separate folder on your computer, for example, NOT on system disk. Let's call this folder Osteochondrosis:

The process of copying the disc to your computer will begin:

If the copying process has not started, it means that the copy functions using hot keys did not work on your computer. In this case, use the copy functions using the mouse, as shown below on the example of another drive in Windows XP.

After the disk files have been copied to the computer, the disk can be unloaded from the drive - the disk is no longer needed.

That's it for copying the disk!

Now you can run the copied disk on your computer by simply clicking on the autorun.exe file. The course menu will appear for studying it without a physical disk:

How to download video from disk to computer

There may be a need to copy a disc to a computer not as a whole, but as individual parts of it; for example, you just need to copy some video from the disc or some music, and then view or listen to it on your computer or on your mobile device(phone, tablet, etc.)

To do this, you also need to start the disc and use Explorer to find the desired folder on the video disc. Next, you need to select the necessary video or music files by simply holding down the Ctrl button on the keyboard and clicking with the mouse on necessary videos files.

Select the required videos, right-click on any selected video file and continue Copy:

Thus, these files are stored by the computer in Clipboard.

All that remains is to create a separate folder on your computer and paste the copied videos there using , or right-click and select in the window that appears Insert:

The selected files will be copied to this folder on your computer.

We looked at the copying process as a whole disk " Osteochondrosis – No", and individual videos to your computer in operating system Windows 7.

Now let's look at similar copying of another disk in Windows XP.

How to copy a DVD disc to a computer in Windows XP

The process of copying a disk to a computer in Windows XP is the same, only now we will additionally consider how to use not the keyboard hot keys, but use the mouse.

On the left side of Explorer we find the disk that was inserted into the drive (as shown in the picture below).

Since the Explorer screen is divided into two parts, you can clearly see the contents of the disk and select the necessary (or all) files on this disk to copy them to your computer. The left side displays the contents of the disk folders, and the right side also displays the files:

To select all files for copying, left-click just below last file and, holding this left mouse button, select files upward to the first file until all files are selected (as can be seen in the picture above).

Thus, all these files are placed in the computer's "temporary memory" (Clipboard). Now you need to decide where to paste (copy) these files on your computer.

Create a separate folder to copy the disc to your computer.

In my case, on drive D I created a folder DISKS in which I have different disks that I copied earlier. And now I created another one in it: Confident PC user:

Now in this folder I right-click and in the window that appears, left-click on: Insert.

Copying files from the CD begins, which becomes clear from the operation of the drive (it made noise when reading information) and the window that appears:

After copying is completed, the copied files will already be on the computer and you can unload the disk from the drive.

You can now launch the disk on your computer by clicking autorun:

That's all! If you need to download a disc to your computer or copy some files from a disc, for example, from 5 films that are on the disc, you need to copy two of them, then, while holding down the Ctrl button on the keyboard, select the necessary files with the left mouse button.

After selection, release the Ctrl button and right-click on any selected area. In the additional menu that appears, select: Copy. Well, you already know the rest!

As you can see, the process of copying or downloading a disc to a computer, whether in Windows 7 or Windows XP, is very simple. You can follow the same principle if you have a different operating system.

You just need to launch the disk, select all or some files, copy them and paste them into the desired folder on your computer.
