Samsung tab 3 8.0 technical specifications. Bluetooth is a standard for secure wireless data transfer between various devices of different types over short distances

The number one Korean electronics manufacturer in the world (according to various estimates of the popularity of released devices), Samsung is constantly working to improve and develop the models of its devices. As a result, many products released under this brand conquer the market in one or another niche, becoming the most popular and famous gadgets. Of course, this has a positive effect on the sales volumes that the manufacturer manages to achieve.

In order to show more specifically what one of the products of this brand is, we will conduct a short review of one of them. Meet the SM-T311 (also known as Tab 3 8.0) tablet. The device has a number of its own features that it can boast to its potential buyer. We will talk about them, as well as many other both positive and negative aspects of this device, in this article.

Appearance

Of course, we'll start with its appearance. After all, it is precisely this criterion that we encounter every time we pick up this device. I would like to immediately note that the device has a rather unprepossessing design, reminiscent of the appearance of similar models. However, the design of the SM-T311 makes such an impression on those who are not at all familiar with the device. In fact, the appearance of the device has a certain style. Take at least glass screen, which covers the entire front of the tablet, giving it a glossy shine. The shiny back cover of the tablet creates the same effect. It is made of plastic and has a similar texture to the front of the tablet. On it we find only the inscription of the manufacturer of the device SM-T311 (Samsung) and the camera window, the characteristics and capabilities of which we will talk about later.

Due to the fact that the gadget has rounded edges, its entire body looks quite stylish, this is in perfect harmony with the glossy texture.

Navigation

With elements that allow you to navigate the capabilities and functionality of the device, everything here is quite standard. The tablet has standard physical “Menu”, “Home” and “Back” buttons located below the screen. They are equipped with additional lighting, which makes it possible to work with them in a dark room. Some users complain that more convenient solution The company could opt for a virtual form of such buttons, as it would save space on the bottom of the phone.

In addition to these, we should also mention the metal-painted buttons for turning on the device and adjusting the sound. They are located on the side faces. This is a standard scheme, which is also supplemented for information exchange.

In general, we can say that Samsung made the controls of the SM-T311 as classic as possible, so that users did not have to relearn how to work with this model.

Display

From the name of the gadget Tab 3 8.0 SM-T311 it is immediately clear what kind of screen it has. We are talking about an 8-inch display that operates on a matrix (PLS technology). The screen resolution, according to the technical parameters, is 1280 by 800 pixels. As the instructions describing the SM-T311 tablet note, the image on the tablet display has a density of 189 dots per square inch. This, of course, is very little if we talk about direct competitors like Amazon Kindle, equipped with stronger matrices with FullHD pictures.

In this regard, of course, you can only bet on a non-standard screen size, because all these gadgets have a display with a diagonal of 7 inches, but not 8. The 7.9-inch iPad mini is considered the closest to it in this case, but the level of prestige here , of course, completely different.

However, the tablet SM-T311, specifications which cannot be called the most outstanding, also boasts high screen brightness. Due to this, the image appears more saturated and at the same time is more suitable for working in bright sunlight or in a well-lit room. The contents of the screen do not fade, but remain quite readable.

Performance

Describing how productive our SM-T311 tablet is, the characteristics of which we have already begun to present earlier, we should note its “heart”. This is the processor that powers the entire operating system of the device. IN in this case We are talking about Samsung Exymos - a dual-core processor, clock frequency each of which is 1.5 GHz. These are quite good indicators, giving good performance of processor power and graphics. This is noted by both ordinary users and specialists. For example, in the rating table in terms of processor interaction speed, the device we are describing is ahead of Asus Transformer Prime TF201, Motorola Atrix, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10, Samsung Galaxy Nexus and others. User reviews confirm this: the tablet works quite quickly, and any freezes (even when running more “demanding” software) are minimal.

The RAM of the SM-T311 is somewhat expanded (compared to the parameters of many similar devices). So, the developer installed 1.5 GB of RAM here so that the user can more freely open various applications without worrying about stability.

Autonomy

As reviews describe, often tablets released under Samsung brand, have problems with endurance. As the characteristics show, the SM-T311 has a battery with a capacity of 4450 mAh. With the help of this power element, the capacity of which, it must be admitted, is quite high level, the tablet can work up to 11 hours, taking into account the fact that the user will sit on a WiFi network and watch videos.

The maximum load on the system gives 4-hour operation, after which the smartphone completely consumes its battery. This, again, is a good indicator considering that we are talking about the operation of a colorful, large display and serious hardware on one device.

operating system

As you might guess, the tablet has the Android operating system (version 4.2.2). It has a special graphical shell developed exclusively for Samsung devices. It has a standard appearance, but differs mainly in the set additional functions. For example, this is the ability to limit the display of information on the device display. This option is useful if you are driving and do not want unnecessary notifications to distract you from the road. Another example is the ability to display different running applications in two windows by changing their sizes. Options like these can actually make using your tablet much easier in some situations.

As you probably know, Samsung is the world's largest manufacturer of Android devices, and the second largest supplier of tablets to the global market after Apple. We have repeatedly had the opportunity to verify that tablets Korean manufacturer have very good capabilities and are one of the best options when the question arises about buying an Android tablet.

If you're looking for a tablet that combines the convenience of a device with... big screen, which provide us with 10-inch devices and compactness that is distinctive feature tablets with a seven-inch screen, then you probably paid attention to eight-inch tablets from Samsung. With one of them, Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 we introduced you to in this review, and today I want to present you with a review of a cheaper Galaxy Tab 3 8.0.

Design, materials and build quality

Like its more expensive brother, the Galaxy Note 8.0, the Galaxy Tab 3 tablet is practically no different in design from Samsung smartphones and looks like a noticeably larger Galaxy S4. It has a screen with the same aspect ratio, its body has the same metallic frame at the ends, and even the location and shape of the navigation buttons on this tablet are the same as on the Galaxy S4.

Also, the case materials that Samsung uses in the production of the latest models of its smartphones and tablets are no different. The Galaxy Tab 3 is half a millimeter thinner than the Galaxy Note 8.0 and has a weight comparable to smaller seven-inch tablets.

The back panel of the tablet is made of the same slippery plastic that Samsung has been using for quite a long time, so the main disadvantage of this solution is probably very familiar to you - it perfectly collects your fingerprints, and in order for the tablet to have a neat appearance, you will have to regularly wipe not only its screen , but also the back panel.

In addition, when running heavy applications and games, the slippery body of the tablet noticeably heats up, which does not add to its ease of use.

Otherwise, everything is fine. We did not notice any creaks or play between the elements of the case; they all fit together perfectly, the buttons respond to pressing adequately with excellent tactile feedback.

Despite its appearance, and the Galaxy Tab 3 looks quite elegant, the tablet leaves the impression of a well-built and reliable device.

As for the controls, the tablet has a minimum of them. These are the power buttons, volume rocker, mechanical Home button and two touch navigation buttons located below the screen.

At the bottom end of the tablet you will find a MicroUSB port. There are also stereo speakers located at the bottom. Some Android device manufacturers have abandoned the MicroSD memory card slot, but Samsung still equips its tablets with it. The lid that covers it looks quite flimsy, so you will have to handle it carefully. At the top end, there is traditionally a headset jack.

In general, the design is well balanced, the tablet is quite comfortable to hold even with one hand. The only inconvenience you may have is that the navigation buttons are located too close to the edge of the tablet, which are awkward to press when you hold it with both hands in landscape orientation.

Screen

A year ago, or even six months ago, choosing a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels for an eight-inch screen would have seemed perfectly reasonable. Now, especially after the introduction of the second generation Nexus 7 with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1200, it seems insufficient.

Although I can’t say that 1280 x 800 resolution is bad. Let's not forget that just a couple of years ago, screens of this resolution were used only in flagship devices from leading manufacturers.

Traditionally, Samsung uses very high-quality panels to produce screens for its tablets, which have excellent color reproduction, brightness levels and viewing angles. The screen of our Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 was no exception in this regard.

Camera

I have always been of the opinion that a tablet is not a device that should be used for photography and video shooting, and I was cool about the technical parameters of the cameras used in these devices. Moreover, their matrices are still far enough away not only from camera matrices, but also from the multi-megapixel matrices that many manufacturers install in their smartphones.

And here the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 is no exception. Its cameras (5-megapixel rear and 1.3-megapixel front) take rather mediocre quality photos. The quality provided by the tablet's front camera is quite sufficient for video chat, but pictures taken with the rear camera will suffer from noise and look blurry even in bright natural light.

Software

Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 runs the operating system Google Android 4.2.2, which is hidden under the proprietary Samsung TouchWiz shell. Some smartphone and tablet owners love TouchWiz, while others don't like it. But, in fairness, it is worth noting that there are still more advantages than disadvantages. Owners of the Galaxy S4 will find almost all the branded goodies on the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0, with the possible exception of the ability to turn the tablet into a remote control remote control TV due to the lack of an infrared transmitter.

You can change the number and order of the tables, flip through them and do all the things we are used to the latest generations Android Samsung devices. TouchWiz is quite convenient to use, and you won't find any terrible flaws in it.

However, it's unclear why the shortcuts in the application drawer are not sorted alphabetically by default, and this can sometimes be annoying, especially when the number of programs installed on the tablet exceeds three to four dozen.

Also, for some reason, the notification shade, when you lower it, takes up the entire width of the screen, as it happens on smartphones, and not on tablets. Access panel quick settings It seems a little cluttered, since some of the shortcuts it contains are duplicated at the top of the notification shade.

Everything else, including a set of proprietary “smart” features, mostly evokes mostly positive emotions. This is, for example, the Smart Stay mode, which does not dim the screen backlight while you are looking at it. True, the smart screen rotation, which selects the optimal screen rotation (portrait or landscape) according to the position of your head, works correctly only half the time, although the idea behind it is quite ingenious.

One of the great things that you will definitely love is the ability to run applications in multi-window mode. It is activated by long pressing the back button, after which you can select the programs you would like to work with at the same time from the sliding sidebar. Unfortunately, this feature only applies to a limited number of applications.

Voice control is activated by double-clicking the Home button, but this feature still needs serious improvement and cannot be compared to Google capabilities Now. And what's worse is that it causes a delay in the Home button response, as the system takes some time to wait for whether the second press will occur or not. True, you can turn it off at any time voice assistant S Voice.

Performance and battery life

The Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 tablet is powered by Samsung's own Exynos 4212 processor, which is a dual-core System-on-Chip that combines two ARM Cortex-A9 computing cores operating at 1.5 GHz and an ARM Mali-400 MP4 graphics processor. This chip is paired with 1.5 GB of RAM. Both the first and second, of course, are clearly not enough for a modern tablet, as you will see almost in the first minutes of using the tablet.

Theoretically, a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor with one and a half gigabytes of RAM should be quite enough to service the operating system itself, but do not forget that the aforementioned TouchWiz shell consumes a lot of resources, which constantly “slows down” in one thing, then somewhere else.

Moreover, the pattern of occurrence of these lags is quite difficult to detect. Moving between desktops happens smoothly most of the time, but sometimes the animation stumbles. The application panel seems to work smoothly, but here too you can sometimes notice delays.

Changing the screen orientation to Android devices in the old days it caused a lot of criticism, but on modern devices we have almost forgotten about delays when switching. You'll occasionally shake the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 in hopes of speeding up switching from one screen orientation to another.

What about tests? If you are interested in this, then in AnTuTu the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 scores just over 10,000 points, which, frankly, is far from the worst result, but do not forget that we are talking about a tablet whose price is noticeably higher than the average price for similar devices.

But the battery life of this tablet will be a very pleasant surprise for many. Samsung equipped it with a battery with a capacity of 4450 mAh, and the tablet’s processor, coupled with the screen, consumes its charge quite economically. You shouldn't have any problems charging your Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 every 2 days, provided the charge is sufficiently intense. everyday use. Unless, of course, you spend all day watching movies or playing heavy games, and the brightness of the tablet screen is set to “Auto” mode.

Conclusion

So, what can we say about the new Galaxy Tab 3 8.0? Personally, it seems to me that this tablet is not suitable for the role of a leader. If you compare it with Apple iPad Mini (not taking into account the difference in operating systems), the Samsung tablet outperforms its competitor both in terms of cost and equipment.

But if we compare the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 with the seven-inch Google Nexus 7 from 2013, then our tablet is inferior to it in almost everything: price, screen resolution, performance and even form factor (although the form factor is a controversial issue).

Therefore, many will choose a Samsung tablet as a cheaper alternative iPad Mini, but for those who need an inexpensive compact, but modern device, I would recommend taking a closer look at the new Nexus 7.

Samsung fans who cannot get away with branded additions to the “pure” Android that is installed on Google tablets, may choose Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 for this reason. But is it worth overpaying a fairly significant amount? Personally, I'm not at all sure.

If this tablet cost at least as much as the new Nexus costs, it would have a fairly bright future. In a nutshell, in my humble opinion, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 is a tablet for those who choose a friend not with their mind or wallet, but with their heart.

So let's first look at Galaxy design Tab 3. Samsung has greatly reduced the bezel around the device's display. Thanks to this, nothing interferes with looking at the display. And as soon as you get your hands on it, you will immediately see the difference between the 7-inch and 8-inch screen. At first it seemed to us that the difference was very small (it was still only 1 inch). However, after carefully touching the tablet, we realized that this was not the case. We think the 8-inch display fits perfectly with the perfect thin bezels compared to the previous Tablets Tab 2. At the same time, you do not experience any discomfort while working with the tablet - even such a thin frame protects you very well from accidental touches to the screen. We expect that many manufacturers in the future will also improve their devices in terms of bezels around the screen, because this is a great trend, in our opinion.

Now let's take a look at the front of the Galaxy Tab 3 tablet. First, of course, the 8-inch display immediately catches your eye. Secondly, like all devices in the Galaxy line, this tablet has a physical “Home” button and several more touch buttons. Also on the front of the tablet is an additional 1.3 megapixel camera and a proximity sensor. On the left side of the Galaxy Tab 3 you can only find a microSD card slot. Right: screen lock button, volume keys and infrared port. Top: 3.5mm audio output. At the bottom we see a microUSB (MHL) port, 2 speakers and a microphone. Well, on the back of the tablet there is, of course, a 5-megapixel camera.

Let's move on to an overview of the interface.

The Galaxy Tab 3 tablet currently works on the basis of the operating system Android systems 4.2.2. As usual, we couldn’t do without adding TouchWiz interface Samsung's Nature UX on top of the OS itself. TouchWiz Nature UX is already familiar to many from devices such as the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy S4 smartphones. This interface is quite easy to work with, and it is also convenient, because... All options can be quickly found thanks to excellent “sorting”. And at the end of 2013, you can expect the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 to receive an update to Android versions 4.3. This was announced by the company at the end of July this year.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 also received an excellent set of so-called “smart” functions. For example, the user will be able to open several windows at once, like on a PC, and there are also Smart Stay and Smart Rotate functions. Well, at the head, of course, is the option voice control device. These are the most basic unusual opportunities that I received this tablet. Of course, Samsung could add a few more smart features, but this would increase the price of the tablet. In the future, along with updates for the Galaxy Tab 3, new options are expected to be added.

Despite the fact that the 8-inch Galaxy Tab 3 is not sold with a complete set of all existing smart features, Samsung has still provided something specifically for users who like to frequently play games, listen to music, watch movies, i.e. enjoy everyone multimedia capabilities tablet. Firstly, the device supports various audio and video formats. However, the Galaxy Tab 3 lacks FM radio. The company decided to remove radio support during production Galaxy smartphone S4, because She believes that many users prefer to listen to music through other streaming services, and radio only takes up unnecessary production time and resources. As for memory, the internal memory is limited to 16 GB. 11 GB of memory is available for storing any information and data, and 5 GB is used by itself operating system and applications. It's good that the Galaxy Tab 3 in case of shortage internal memory, you can always use external storage media in the form of microSD memory cards - their maximum capacity should not exceed 64 GB.

Since the device received 1.5 GB of RAM, this allows the tablet to work quite quickly. For example, when running, the Galaxy Tab 3 uses only 675 MB of RAM; the user spends the rest of the RAM on applications, games, programs, etc.

Now I would like to take a closer look at the display of the Galaxy Tab 3 tablet. It is classified as a middle-class device, which means that the price of such gadgets is acceptable for users even with average or low income. However, the quality of the tablet does not suffer. One of the means of saving on production was to reduce the viewing angles of the tablet screen and reduce the resolution (that is, they simply saved on it). In general, the display is quite high quality - an 8-inch LCD screen, with a pixel density of 189 ppi and a resolution of only 1280 x 800 pixels. For the average user, the difference will not be particularly noticeable, but more “knowledgeable” buyers are unlikely to like such a low resolution for an 8-inch display.

On the other hand, all colors are rendered realistically and colorfully. And all thanks to the liquid crystal display. Overall, the screen is pretty good for its price.

As we said earlier, the Galaxy Tab 3 has two cameras: a front camera and a rear camera. The resolution is 1.3 megapixels and 5 megapixels, respectively. Thanks to a 5 MP camera, the tablet is capable of recording high-definition video with a resolution of 720p. And the maximum photo resolution is 2560 x 1920 pixels. Below we have presented you with photographs that were taken with the main camera of the 8-inch Galaxy Tab 3 tablet:

As for the most important thing - the heart of the tablet, inside it is a dual-core processor from Samsung - Exynos with a clock frequency of 1.5 GHz. While we were working with this tablet, it worked quite quickly, with only occasional noticeable slowdowns. From the entire line Galaxy tablets Tab, Tab 3 8.0 is the fastest.

While testing the tablet, we noticed that the battery life of the device is really decent. At active work with it, the Galaxy Tab 3 was able to last a whole day without recharging. Well and regular user will be able to work with it for about 3 days and forget what it is Charger. All this is provided by a battery with a capacity of 4,450 mAh.

In conclusion, I would like to say that this is an excellent tablet computer with a good affordable price. At the same time, it is quite fast, with a high-quality LCD display, and 8 inches is the ideal size for a tablet, in our opinion. We discussed all these nuances the other day. It’s not for nothing that it is called one of the most anticipated tablets of this year and is predicted to be extremely popular. Most likely, in September the first users will be able to purchase an 8-inch Wi-Fi version of the tablet. Galaxy computer Tab 3.
