Installation problems or a blue screen BSOD after restarting the computer are fixable problems. First, before starting the process, you should disable your antivirus software, VPN and Proxy client software. Secondly, you should be patient: unpacking and installing patches takes from half an hour to several hours, depending on the performance of your computer. As a last resort, to fix problems, you should use the "Troubleshooting" section of the "Start and run" section of the Windows 10 operating system.

Have you ever wondered why your computer is running 32-bit Windows 10? It is possible that your computer is fully qualified for the 64-bit version of Windows. You need to upgrade 32-bit Windows to 64-bit if your computer has more than 4 GB of RAM, because 32-bit operating systems work with a maximum of 4 GB of RAM. Before updating, you need to make sure that it is possible.

Check for a 64-bit processor

You need to check if you have a 64-bit processor. This is the most important requirement for installing a 64-bit system. To do this, you need to go to the Windows 10 Start Menu (you can also press the WIN button on your keyboard) and go to Settings.

On the next screen, go to "About". There you should see the specifications for your software, as well as some options specific to your hardware. Since you want to upgrade from 32-bit Windows, you will see "32-bit Operating System" next to "System Type".

If you see "x64 processor", then you can upgrade. Unfortunately, if "x86 processor" appears in the window, you won't be able to upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit Windows. However, most processors released in the last 5-7 years are 64-bit.

Windows backup

Since you will be making significant changes to your operating system, it is important to make a full backup of Windows 10. An important note for upgrading from 32-bit to 64-bit Windows is that all of your personal files, settings, and applications on drive C: will be removed. Your best bet is to back up any affected files to an external drive.

Upgrading from 32-bit to 64-bit Windows

Once the backup process is complete, you can proceed to the installation phase. To upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit Windows, you need to perform a clean installation of the operating system. This means you can't just update Windows 10 and keep your files. First you need to create a , which you will use to install the 64-bit version of the operating system.

Once you have your Windows 10 boot disk, plug it into your PC and restart it. If the system boots normally, then you need to change the boot order in the BIOS. Enter the BIOS using the Dell, F8 or F2 keys (different motherboards vary), find the Boot option and set the devices in such order that the USB drive or Windows 10 disk will boot first.

If everything is done correctly, the Windows installer will start. At some point, Windows will ask you for a serial key. If you have previously activated your system, you can skip this option.

On the screen where you need to select the installation type, navigate to "Custom: Install Windows Only (Advanced)". After clicking "Next" you should select all system partition and delete it. (Be guided by the size, you need to remove drive C). All files on the specified partition will be deleted, for this we made a backup copy.

After clicking "Next", Windows will proceed with the installation of the 64-bit version. I hope you managed to update the system. After the update, restore the files from the backup. If you have any difficulties - write in the comments. Good luck.

In the summer, many people leave cities for places where the Internet is available only with a 4G modem. In this case, saving traffic is very important, and regular installation of Windows updates can cost a pretty penny.

Today I will tell you how to take control of Windows 10 updates and explain how to download everything you need on your home PC for further installation on your “dacha”.

Today on the program

Background

In principle, if you select the “download and installation notification” option, the system will write which updates it lacks. On the other hand, this option, while greatly reducing WU traffic, does not disable it. Therefore, since your goal is to save as much as possible, and you decide to update the system with the updates brought in, it makes sense to completely disable WU.

I also posted on the Telegram channel a guide to setting up delayed delivery of Windows updates and builds. I am implementing here along with a REG file in ZIP.

What updates come through the Windows Update channel

It's easiest to explain with an example. I installed a clean Windows 10 (version 1511) from an ISO I downloaded four months ago and this is what was suggested.

  • Cumulative Updates. In Windows 10, unlike previous systems, the bulk of updates (including security fixes) are delivered in cumulative updates. They are released approximately once a month and replace previously released updates if necessary (in the example, this is KB3154132). It is cumulative updates that greatly simplify the task of keeping the PC up to date with WU turned off.
  • Other OS updates. There are not many of them, and in my case only one is offered - KB3140741, which updates Windows. Without such updates, one can live [in the country], otherwise they would be included in the first category. However, a stack update may become mandatory for installing a new version of Windows 10.
  • Windows Defender, MSRT, and Flash Player Updates. The first two are clear, but it's not clear what's stopping you from including Flash Player updates in rollups. Flash may need to be updated more than once a month.

There are still driver updates, but I assume that they are installed on the target PC, and that it works stably.

So on Windows 10, the task boils down to downloading the latest rollup, Flash Player update, and Windows Defender/MSRT signatures. Let's download!

How to download the necessary updates

All Windows updates can be downloaded from the Microsoft . The latest defender signatures are posted on the anti-malware website.

Step 1 - Determine OS Version and Bitness

We are talking about the target system - the one on which the updates will be installed. Settings → System → About.

Step 2 - Download OS, Flash Player and MSRT Updates

Go to the Microsoft update catalog and search for the name of the OS along with the version and bit depth, for example, Windows 10 1809 x64. This will give you updates Windows(cumulative, service stack, .NET) and Flash Player.

To find the latest version MSRT, search for removal tool and sort by date, showing the latest results at the top.

Step 3 - Download the Windows Defender Signature Update

Instead of rummaging through the catalog, go to the Malware Protection Center website and download the file for offline installation (Windows Defender in Windows 10 and Windows 8.1). Direct links:

So the update for Windows 10 called October 2018 Update has been released. Many doubted that it would even happen on October 2nd, even I, but it did happen nonetheless. If I'm not mistaken, the assembly was not even in the Release Preview branch, but the release took place. Please correct me if this is not the case.

However, the update is already available and today I will tell you how to officially upgrade to the October update. Yes, this is another update guide.

So, the first and fastest way is to update through Windows Update. So go to the Settings app –> Update and Security –> Windows Update and click on the Check for updates button. If the result is positive, then there will be a notification about assembly 1809. Although the system must eventually find and install it itself.

But it happens that the update is not trite. This is most likely due to the fact that the Microsoft servers are currently heavily loaded, so the update will not be available to you yet, or some internal error does not allow you to update. Then you can use other methods.

So, go to the Microsoft website at this link and download the Update Assistant tool by clicking on the "Update Now" button. After that, the Windows 10 Upgrade application will be loaded, which will allow you to upgrade to version 1809.

You can also download the Media Creation Tool on the same site, which will not only allow you to upgrade to the October 2018 Update, but also allow you to get the official ISO image of the update and immediately burn it to a USB flash drive if you select the "Create installation media" menu item. Everything is very simple.

You can also mark the update using the Windows Insider program. That is, in order to upgrade, you will need to become an insider, and then exit this program. The method is not bad, but for the majority it will definitely not be in demand, especially since the applications above solve all your problems.

In general, a successful update!
