Smartphone Huawei U6 Pro. Huawei Y6 Pro review: a smartphone with pitfalls

The Huawei Y6 Prime 2018 smartphone is a rare example of a budget gadget that combines premium features, stylish appearance and an affordable price.

Laconic and stylish

The smartphone has an impressive and practical design. The strict plastic case with a matte finish is complemented by a chrome frame, which gives the gadget both a classic and modern look. The screen, as expected in 2018, is FullView with thin frames and glossy 2.5D glass. There is nothing superfluous on the front panel, since all the navigation buttons are on the screen.

High quality assembly is complemented by comfort during use. The smartphone has extremely pleasant ergonomics, which is achieved by rounded edges and corners. The dimensions also facilitate convenient one-handed operation: with a height of 152.4 mm, a width of 73 mm and a thickness of 7.8 mm, the gadget weighs only 150 grams. So the hand does not get tired even after using the device for many hours.

Full palette of colors

Y6 Prime 2018 received a 5.7-inch IPS screen with a resolution of 1440 by 720 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9. The display has high contrast, good detail and natural color reproduction.

Even in sunny weather, all information remains readable without loss of color shades, so you can see the smallest details of on-screen interfaces. In addition, already proven vision protection technology is used here. You can adjust colors and contrast depending on the time of day, adjust the color temperature, and change the screen resolution.

Time-tested iron

The smartphone runs on one of the most popular quad-core chipsets Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 with clock frequency 1.4 GHz. This “pebble” model has proven itself well over several generations. budget smartphones, providing high performance in multitasking mode. This SoC is distinguished by excellent energy efficiency indicators, due to which the 3000 mAh battery can last at maximum modes for a whole day.

The Adreno 308 3D accelerator runs games consistently at medium and high settings. A random access memory 2 GB is more than enough for both everyday tasks and heavy-duty applications. If the built-in memory of 16 GB is not enough for you, you can additionally buy a 256 GB card, especially since there is a separate slot for it.

Particular attention is paid to sound quality in the smartphone. The audio processing system combined with a powerful speaker provides clear and loud noise up to 88 dB. At the same time, you can synchronize two gadgets via Bluetooth, creating a truly surround sound music party.

A camera that doesn't miss a beat

The 13-megapixel main photo module of the smartphone is characterized by fast focusing and excellent detail in good lighting. And at dusk, the HDR mode will come to the rescue.

Particular emphasis in the smartphone is placed on the quality of selfies. 8 MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture, except standard settings, equipped with the “Perfect Selfie” function. With its help, you can subtly adjust your facial contour, eye size, skin tone and ambient lighting. You can also decorate the finished photo with cute stickers.

Also, the capabilities of the front module are expanded due to the facial recognition function, which allows you to unlock the smartphone screen.

Smartphone Huawei Y6 Prime 2018 – big budget “ smart phone" This model is a “premium version” of the Huawei Y6 mobile device, which has more modest characteristics. As for the Prime version, it has a fairly adequate and affordable price (the price of a smartphone is almost $200), has a presentable appearance, and acceptable technical characteristics.

The Huawei Y6 Prime 2018 has the typical modern smartphones appearance. On the front of the smartphone there is a large 5.7-inch screen with thin frames. Above it you can see a light sensor, front camera, earpiece, led indicator events, as well as selfie flash

The back side of the mobile device has rather laconic equipment. In the left top corner in an oblong black frame there is a camera lens, which is adjacent to an LED light bulb.

In the center at the top there is a microphone responsible for the noise reduction function. Just below it is a round fingerprint scanner. Under the display you can only find the silver logo of the manufacturer. Virtual control buttons are placed in the screen frame.

The front camera of the device is also designed to recognize the owner’s face.

On the right side of the Huawei Y6 Prime 2018 there are power and volume buttons. On the left is a combination card tray (2 SIM cards and one memory expansion card). At the top you can see a 3.5 audio jack for connecting headphones or a headset. At the bottom there is a MicroUSB for synchronizing the device with a computer and charging the gadget. On the sides of it there are slots for the main speaker and a conversational microphone.

Design and ergonomics

Huawei Y6 Prime 2018, which is reviewed in this article, is made entirely of plastic. However, it is worth noting the build quality. There are no backlashes, the plastic does not creak, all elements of the body are well secured. The rounded shape and glossy bezel located around the perimeter of the gadget add some extravagance to the smartphone.

As for the design of the device, it is worth adding that the gadget has three color options: black, gold and dark blue. The mobile phone fits quite well in the hand. It is quite convenient to control the functions of the device with one hand.

The mobile device weighs 150 grams and has rather modest dimensions (152.4 x 73 x 7.8). The hand does not get tired even when using the phone for a long time, and the rounded corners do not cause discomfort.

Display

Huawei Y6 Prime 2018 is equipped with an IPS display with a diagonal of 5.7 inches, an aspect ratio of 18 to 9, and a resolution of 1440 by 720 ppi.

The relatively low resolution is compensated by well-adjusted contrast and natural colors. The device's display has acceptable brightness levels. This allows you to comfortably use your phone outdoors. However, in sunny weather, or under extremely bright lighting conditions, the brightness reserve may not be enough. The mobile phone is equipped with an automatic brightness adjustment option.

For budget phone Huawei screen Y6 Prime 2018 has acceptable viewing angles. Contrast changes are only possible with excessive diagonal deviations.

A number of fine display settings are provided for users. For example, manual installation color temperature, or activating the eye protection option from excessive strain. In this case, the blue filter is turned on, which reduces the strain on the eyes of the user of the device. The gadget has an option to automatically reduce the display resolution. This allows you to increase the autonomy of the mobile device.

Equipment

Huawei Y6 Prime 2018 has a rather modest package. In addition to the instruction manual and warranty cards, in the box you can find:

  • a paperclip designed to remove the card tray from the device body;
    charger unit;
  • USB cable.

The mobile phone does not come with a standard headset.

Specifications Huawei Y6 Prime 2018

The characteristics of Huawei Y6 Prime 2018 allow you to comfortably use your mobile device to solve everyday problems. The phone also handles multitasking well. This is facilitated by 3GB of RAM.

For data storage, 32 GB of permanent flash memory is provided, of which 24.79 GB is available. If this is not enough, you can use a microSD memory expansion card. The smartphone allows you to install additional memory up to 256GB, which is quite enough to store a solid library of films, audio and other multimedia.

Thanks to the presence of a corresponding connector in the tray, users have the opportunity to install 2 SIM cards and microSD. By the way, not every luxury mobile device can boast of this.

Performance

As for the performance of Huawei Y6 Prime 2018, it has rather mediocre performance. The “brain” of the device is Qualcomm Snapdragon 425. This processor model does not have high performance and is considered outdated. It has four Cortex-A53 cores that can be clocked at 1.4 GHz. The Adreno 308 chip plays the role of the smartphone's graphics accelerator. This means that you can forget about highly demanding 3D applications and games when using a mobile device.

In AnTuTu, Huawei Y6 Prime 2018 scored 46431 points, which is quite good for a budget smartphone.

At large quantities running programs, animations may slow down, and in addition, the launch of the applications themselves cannot be called instantaneous. If 2-3 light programs are running on the smartphone, then there are no problems with the smoothness of animations and performance.

A mobile device is not capable of handling heavy games and applications. However, casual games launch and run quite well on this device.

Huawei Y6 Prime also has a less powerful version - with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage. This version of the device produces more modest performance in synthetic tests.

For a budget smartphone, the Huawei Y6 Prime camera has good performance and speed.

Cameras

The main camera of Huawei Y6 Prime 2018 is equipped with an LED flash, a module with a resolution of 13 megapixels, and an f/2.2 aperture.

Photo

As for pictures taken from the main camera, provided there is good lighting, the photographs have good clarity, high detail and acceptable color rendition. Autofocus occurs almost instantly. However, the picture changes dramatically if you take photographs in conditions of insufficiently high visibility. Photos lose detail and color.

In addition, noise appears in photographs, which is most noticeable when photographing with flash. In general, the quality of photos taken with Huawei Y6 Prime 2018 can be called acceptable.

The dynamic range of the resulting images is average. Activating the HDR option (a function for improving image quality) does not particularly affect the situation.

Concerning standard application cameras, then it is practically no different from those installed on other smartphones. By swiping to the left, the user can select shooting modes, and by swiping to the right, he can make “fine” camera settings.

Video

As for recording videos, the module is capable of recording videos in FullHD quality (1920×1080). This model does not implement the electronic stabilization function. The video is shot at 30 frames per second.

Front-camera

Module front camera has a resolution of 8 megapixels and an f/2.0 aperture. Features of the front-facing camera include the presence of a tone flash, as well as the AR Lens function, thanks to which you can instantly change the background of a photo. In addition, the front camera of Huawei Y6 Prime has an option to unlock the smartphone by the owner’s face.

Sound and music playback quality

Huawei Y6 Prime, despite the budget status of the model, has fairly decent sound. The smartphone is equipped with two speakers with a power of 88 dB and has a high volume reserve. There is also an equalizer with advanced settings and a group music function. The sound coming from the speakers is clear, but you have to forget about the bass.

The smartphone has three different music listening modes:

  1. Near – all parameters become averaged, and sound preamplification is slightly reduced. This mode is optimal for listening to music through headphones.
  2. Front - in this mode conversational and main speakers work as multimedia speakers. For a more complete immersion, it is recommended to place the phone horizontally. At the same time, the effect home theater"does not add bassiness to the sound.
  3. Wide mode – the sound sounds along with superimposed built-in reverb and delay effects. This makes the sound spatial and voluminous (“concert hall” mode).

Huawei Y6 Prime is equipped with a karaoke mode, as well as an option that allows you to output sound from your smartphone to the speakers of other mobile devices. In total, up to 8 smartphones can be connected to Huawei Y6 Prime simultaneously as speakers.

There are no complaints about the sound of the Huawei Y6 Prime 2018 - the sound is clear, moderately loud and distinct. When talking with an interlocutor, it is not observed extraneous noise and interference.

Communication capabilities

The communication capabilities of the mobile device are realized using Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth: 4.2, A2DP, LE modules. The device is equipped with a system GPS navigation together with A-GPS, GLONASS. Also included in the top-end configuration of the gadget is NFC module. The smartphone has a built-in radio receiver.
Communication is supported by GSM, HSPA and LTE technologies.

operating system

Huawei Y6 Prime 2018 runs under operating system Android systems version 8.0. The software's capabilities allow users to personalize the device.

The EMUI shell can remember the actions of the owner of the gadget, and automatic mode, adjusts various device settings to suit them. The navigation button allows you to use the device with one hand, and the option to split the display into two parts allows you to keep two windows open at the same time running applications. The process of taking a screenshot is quite simple - the user needs to swipe down with three fingers on the gadget’s display.

Features of the operating system include some preinstalled programs. Among the standard software, it is worth highlighting the built-in photo and video editor, as well as a text editor.

Autonomy

Huawei Y6 Prime 2018 is equipped with a fairly capacious battery – 3000 mAh. As for the operating time of the gadget, it directly depends on the mode of use of the smartphone. With a 4G connection turned on and the display turned on at full brightness, the phone lasted 4.5 hours.

When connected to the Internet via a Wi-Fi module, with the screen turned on at full brightness, the device worked for almost 6 hours, which can be called a very good indicator for the battery.

With less intensive use of the phone, the battery can last from one and a half to two days without recharging.

To ensure minimal battery consumption, you can activate the appropriate mode. In this mode, the gadget can work for several days. Maximum energy saving is relevant in conditions in which it is impossible to timely recharge a mobile phone. For example, when going on a picnic for several days, or going on a hike.

  • Meizu M6s

The device supports the option fast charging, and its cost is almost the same as Huawei Y6 Prime 2018.

Workmanship and display

Huawei Y6 (2018), which costs about 9 thousand rubles, is an entry-level model. At the same time, the device boasts a rather attractive design. The back cover is made of plastic, and the frame is metal, and this already allows the case to look very modern.

The device weighs 150 grams, like the previous 2017 model. Overall, this is a fairly lightweight smartphone. The display diagonal is 5.7 inches and the resolution is 720x1440 pixels, which ultimately gives an image density of 283 ppi (this is rather a low value). But the screen brightness of 453.9 cd/m2 will be sufficient for most operating scenarios.

Overall, the display delivered acceptable results during our testing, which can even compare to some mid-range smartphones.

Performance, battery and camera

Otherwise, the equipment of the Huawei Y6 leaves much to be desired. In particular, the performance is poor: the phone is quite “thoughtful”. Inside there is a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor, the maximum clock speed of which reaches 1.5 GHz. In addition, the device has only 2 GB of RAM. Old model CPU is the main reason why running applications and loading games are on a very long time.

Only the battery makes a good impression. With a capacity of 3000 mAh, the battery was able to last approximately 9 hours during our test, which is a good achievement for smartphones in the budget price segment.

On the back of the Huawei Y6 there is a 13-megapixel camera with a flash, which shoots in fairly acceptable quality in daylight. However, at dusk the camera produces a distinctly noticeable noise, like all entry-level cameras. Therefore, you will have to refuse photos from the party in the bar.

On the front side of the body is a 5-megapixel camera that is capable of taking decent selfies. But here it should be admitted: from the front Huawei camera Y6 You are unlikely to become an Instagram star. However, in order to put an avatar in social network, its capabilities will be sufficient.

And what else?

Huawei Y6 launches with Android 8.0 Oreo, supports file upload to mobile networks LTE at speeds of up to 150 Mbit/s and in addition to a slot for MicroSD memory cards, it offers two more slots for operating in Dual-SIM mode. Slot for MicroSD cards This will come in handy for many, since the phone’s built-in memory is only 16 GB, and it comes out of the factory more than half full. In addition, the device is equipped with a WLAN module (working according to 802.11 b, g and n standards), as well as GPS and Bluetooth 4.2. NFC sensor this model smartphone is not rich.

Huawei Y6 does not have a fingerprint scanner, but the manufacturer has equipped the device with a facial recognition system. If you are not a fan of this method or want to play it safe, you can use standard methods unlock - enter PIN code or graphic key.

The Y6 battery is charged via the MicroUSB connector, which can be found in the bottom frame of the case. In addition, at the top of the frame there is a 3.5 mm audio jack for connecting headphones.

Alternative

Do you want to get a significantly more equipped smartphone for little money? Pay attention to Honor 6X with dual camera. If you spend a little time learning the settings, in Pro mode this phone can take amazing photos with excellent depth of field and color accuracy. In our budget rating Honor smartphones 6X occupies a leading position in terms of price-quality ratio, and it currently costs about 12 thousand rubles.

Huawei Y6 (2018) test results

Photo: CHIP, manufacturing companies

Modern mobile gadgets always pleases with stylish design, high quality and big screen, good performance and support for other high-tech devices. Nevertheless, there is one very significant point that manufacturers either forget about or deliberately assign almost the last role to it - this is battery life.

Engineers and designers of companies are trying to make new smartphone models thinner, more powerful, with larger screens. Full HD resolution, with support for a huge range of applications, in general, more beautiful and more expensive. All this is in order to cause delight in the future owner and sometimes even awe in front of his creation. And in pursuit of such “beauty”, the manufacturer very often neglects energy saving, that is, autonomy, and this is a fact.

Is it impossible to carry advanced technologies along with enviable characteristics and have excellent autonomy? No matter how it is!

This statement is refuted by the hero of today's review - a stylish and very capable gadget from the middle price range, which has distinguished itself capacious battery and good technical performance. This is Huawei Y6 Pro. Characteristics, hardware and communication capabilities, as well as the opinions of experts, coupled with reviews from ordinary smartphone owners, will be discussed later in the review. On the shelves of many stores, the model is presented as Enjoy 5, Honor 5X Play, Honor 4C Pro and Holly 2+. But under the cover there is always the inscription Huawei Y6 Pro (price - 11 thousand rubles).

Appearance

The gadget has a monoblock and attractive design. The model is softly rounded at the corners and looks like a classic rectangular smartphone. The five-inch screen is bordered by a black insert and recessed into it, due to this visually it looks a little larger than its dimensions. If you look at the top and bottom frames more closely, you can see the original and quite nice texture.

Front

The front camera eye is located in a place traditional for this kind of gadgets - above the screen. Approaches also keep him company. Directly below the screen itself and just above the brand logo, on-screen icons are conveniently located: “square”, “triangle” and “circle”. The icons have the usual functionality: Recent Apps, Back, and Home.

If you are left-handed or you are simply not satisfied with the location of the icons, then you can easily change them in the Huawei Y6 Pro menu. Reviews from owners are full of words of gratitude for this, albeit small, but for some, critical feature of the gadget.

Rear

A very remarkable metal frame runs along the perimeter of the device, perfectly contrasting with the plastic body, which, by the way, has an original and pleasant-to-touch texture. On the back side of the gadget, in the upper part, there is a camera with a flash. Just above the peephole you can see the microphone, and below you can see the nice manufacturer’s logo.

You won’t find speakers in the usual place for such dimensions. The engineers considered it more appropriate to place them on the bottom end, to the micro-USB connector. At first glance, it may seem that the speakers have a stereo layout (holes on both sides of the output), but in fact there is only one speaker, and the sound flows only through one grille in the Huawei Y6 Pro. Reviews from gadget owners were slightly divided in this case: some were quite satisfied with such a false grille and mono sound, while others felt that they were being deceived.

Under the removable cover you can see a pair of modern micro-SIM card slots and one place for a micro-SD drive. The battery takes up almost all the space, but nevertheless does not interfere with working with cards. Underneath you will see identification numbers, as well as series number, assembly number and other technical information about Huawei Y6 Pro. Reviews about the “friendliness” of the lid are mostly positive: with proper skill, it can be easily lifted with a fingernail and just as easily put in place.

Ergonomics and range

With its impressive weight of 160 grams, the device has appropriate dimensions: 143.1 x 71.8 x 9.7 mm, which fits well within the bounds of decency for five-inch gadgets. On this moment official dealers have two color versions: Huawei Y6 Pro Gold (golden) and Gray (gray).

Both ranges look great in the hands of both strong men and weak women, regardless of status and age, be it a student or a respectable gentleman over 60. Huawei Y6 Pro Gold and Gray do not differ in price, so what to choose is a matter of everyone’s taste.

Screen

The five-inch model has a base resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels, which even today, in the search for “bigger, higher and more powerful,” is considered a decent characteristic in this class of devices. The dot density per inch is also a good indicator - 294 ppi. And all this works on a quite sensible IPS matrix, with proper saturation and contrast.

The brightness adjustment range has a good spread across the entire Huawei Y6 Pro series. View of corners is also at the proper level. You can easily watch photos or videos in the company of one or two friends. Moreover, the viewing angles are equally good both horizontally and vertically for all Huawei Y6 Pro models. Owner reviews point out the only, and for some, critical, drawback of the screen - the absence of a microfiber cloth. So, a microfiber cloth will become your constant travel companion if you have no desire to fork out for an expensive coating procedure.

A more or less inexpensive solution to dust, scratches and other dirt for the Huawei Y6 Pro is a case, so the first thing that smartphone owners recommend is to purchase any case you like after purchasing the gadget; fortunately, there are more than enough designs, shapes and varieties of materials in stores.

Hardware platform

The performance of the smartphone is ensured by the Mediatek MT6735P series platform running on four cores with a clock frequency of 1.3 GHz (ARM “Cortex-A53”). The built-in chip from Mali T720 MP2 series at 600 MHz is responsible for video streams. In general, the Huawei Y6 Pro models have more than enough power for most daily tasks.

The review showed that the gadget is equipped with two gigabytes of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory. Moreover, the user remains approximately 10 GB of them. The device supports all modern micro-SD drives up to 128 GB, and therefore problems with free space Owners of Huawei Y6 Pro should not have it. The case from the brand (branded) is equipped with special pockets, so you can store all your memory cards and SIM cards in one place.

Communications

The model provides for work with two micro-SIM cards. They work alternately, that is, when one SIM card is active, the other switches to offline mode. The gadget feels great in the basic networks of all well-known mobile operators and supports 2G, 3G and 4G technologies.

There is also support for popular wireless protocols: Wi-Fi at 802.11 b/g/n points and Bluetooth version 4. Some owners in their reviews complain that mobile phone Huawei Y6 Pro is not equipped with NFC technology, but for this price, the available characteristics are more than attractive.

In addition to the standard set, it supports domestic GLONASS and imported GPS/A-GPS. The gadget can easily be used as a navigator in conjunction with standard Google Maps cartography.

Autonomous operation

Two things are particularly attractive about the Huawei Y6 Pro - price and battery life. Available accumulator battery 4000 mAh allows the phone to “live” in normal mode for about two days. Even if you load it, as they say, to its fullest, the charge will still last for almost a day.

More specifically, at full screen brightness, playing video in Full HD drains the battery for almost eleven hours, and this is an excellent indicator for models in this segment.

You can significantly extend battery life if you enable special energy-saving modes and disable particularly “gluttonous” ones. third party applications. Moreover, the gadget takes upon itself the optimization of the operation of the software and the entire device as a whole, intelligently reminding and connecting the mode needed at the moment (customizable function).

It is worth mentioning one more feature of the model. The Y6 Pro can act as an external battery to power other gadgets, and this, as a rule, is the prerogative of expensive devices in the “price exceeded 30 thousand rubles” category. Users in their reviews appreciated this feature, giving it the highest rating in the autonomy section.

A $200 smartphone? - You need to go to that department where your eyes are getting more and more dizzy. Manufacturers are trying very hard to succeed here, because the price segment is really very massive. There are some angrier and more glamorous ones here. Today we have a device from the second category. Let's quickly see what kind of animal this is.

What is this?

Huawei Y6 Prime 2018 is a large (5.7" display diagonal) budget Android smartphone in a plastic case. Nowadays, you don’t need to add that it is “almost full-screen” (18x9 aspect ratio), but it is important to note that it does not have bangs/unibrow.

Why is he interesting?

First, we need to clarify that the word Prime in the title is very important. If we remove it, we get a completely different model. Younger and already clearly budget: 2 GB of RAM, 16 permanent memory, without a fingerprint scanner, and with a worse front camera. But there are no external differences, except for the golden version of the body color (black and blue are also found). This is exactly what we came across: it is immediately clear that this is a model with the Prime title.

Here's something a little more solid. The screen resolution, as in the younger model, is 1440x720, but the RAM is already 3 GB, and the permanent one is 32 GB. The device is based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 (MSM8917) platform - a quad-core processor with a frequency of up to 1.4 GHz. 3000 mAh battery, microUSB connector, fingerprint scanner on the rear panel... Boring? Prime also has more interesting features. Front flash, full tray for 2 SIM + 1 MicroSD, face unlock function, dual camera... Stop. It's not double. It seemed? Let's take a closer look.

What is in the box?

There is nothing unnecessary in the box. In addition to the smartphone itself - Charger, cable and paper clip. Jokes aside, but a paperclip is a really necessary thing. There is still no standard for the holes for removing the SIM card tray, and a pushpin, which can be used to easily open the tray in the iPhone, does not fit into the hole in the Huawei Y6 Prime, checked. So don't lose the paperclip. And be careful with the card tray, it's as long as a French baguette.

The nice thing is that a neat protective film is already glued to the screen for constant wearing. The unpleasant thing: it is more of a film than glass, and scratches quite easily. And also - no headset included (but it will be in commercial supplies, I just had no luck with the sample).

What does it look like?

More expensive than it is. Although this is a subjective assessment. But precisely because of the features appearance It may seem that there is a double camera here. Its lens and flash are covered by a black elongated module, exactly the same as the one behind which it is customary to install two lenses in more expensive models (the same Y7 Prime). But here he is alone. In addition to this module, on the rear panel there is a “dot” of the second microphone and a traditional round fingerprint scanner.

The frames around the edges of the screen are quite thin. At the top of the front panel there is an LED indicator, a light sensor (which pretends to be a second front camera), the front camera itself, an earpiece and an invisible selfie flash. The front camera is also used to unlock the smartphone when face is recognized. After pressing the power button and before the face is recognized, you can see the corresponding inscription on the screen.

Below the screen there is only a mirrored manufacturer's logo; all control buttons are drawn on the screen itself. On the bottom edge there are the most banal (like everyone else) round slots for a microphone and speaker on the sides of the MicroUSB connector. On the right is the power button and volume rocker, on the left is only the card tray, and on the top end is a 3.5 mm headphone jack. So far, fortunately, only flagships are abandoning it, as well as MicroUSB - in favor of Type C.

Everything is plastic, but assembled conscientiously, nothing creaks or wobbles. The roundness of the shape and the glossy mirror bezel around the perimeter of the device generally make it a kind of glamorous thing. At least this white and gold version. For some reason I remembered iPhone first three generations, their polished metal edging gave a similar impression.

How good is the screen?

Once upon a time, a 5.7-inch screen was considered huge, but nowadays it is just big. For some reason, programs that display the characteristics of the device get confused and determine the diagonal to be 5.9”, but the ruler confirms: 5.7. Despite the relatively low resolution, the pixels are invisible, and viewing angles are fine. The maximum brightness is 345.131 cd/m2, black field brightness is 0.393 cd/m2, contrast is 878:1. Not bad performance, but the color gamut is a little disappointing and the screen is a bit cold. However, we are faced with such a feature of displays Huawei already not for the first time. Let me remind you that the measurements were taken with default parameters; if desired, the color can be adjusted in the settings.

What about performance, autonomy, sound?

The Snapdragon 425 processor is an old and proven option for budget employees. More than one generation has been built on it. Here is Xiaomi with the Redmi 4 and 5 A series, and Samsung J-series, and E5-e Moto, and many other models. Performance is predictable. In tests the numbers are depressingly low, but in real life There's not much to complain about. The interface works quickly, simple toys work without problems. Something a little heavier like NFS: No Limits or Minecraft (a world with many objects) is also running, although not as quickly as demanding players would like.

Let me remind you that the Prime model has exclusively 32 GB of storage and 3 GB of RAM. Normal for the modern average person. There is Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz only), Bluetooth, GPS/GLONASS - standard set. There are no frills like NFC or infrared remote control. The most attentive readers will argue that there should be NFC, but our modification with the ATU-L31 index does not have this chip. But it is only available in the ATU-L11 version; I can’t say anything about its supply to our market. But I can wish Huawei to quickly purchase modern Wi-Fi modules, because this story with the lack of support for the five-gigahertz range in almost all devices except flagships has been going on for a long time and it’s time to solve it.

But there is FM radio. By the way, let's note the sound. The marketing campaign for this device mentions a particularly loud speaker that produces "up to 88 dB." Indeed, subjectively it sounds louder than average. At the same time, on maximum volume It doesn’t wheeze and handles higher frequencies quite accurately. Bass transmission is understandably worse. But still, for voicing gatherings in the absence of other speakers, it is better suited than most “classmate devices”.

Although this figure of 88 decibels is disturbing, let’s check. We take a device for comparison (in our case it’s an iPhone 8), on it and on the experimental one we alternately play the same works from the repertoire of Metallica and AC/DC. We measure the noise level with a third smartphone using a software sound level meter from the Smart Tools package at a distance of 2 cm from the speaker. We calculate the average values and compare. Y6 Prime produced 84 dB at its peak, with an average of 79. The opponent got 83 and 78, respectively. Dry numbers say that the speaker is hardly head and shoulders louder than everyone else around. But it's still loud. And you can make it even louder in the “Party” mode, for which you will need at least one more smartphone of the same type: they will “sing in chorus.”

The battery is average, 3000 mAh, this is a common capacity. The device removed from charging in the morning by 10 pm shows 50-60% charge. With average usage. Just don’t ask what is included in it, you won’t get it right anyway. If you use it less intensively, you can do without charging for two days. Even more is possible, especially if you use the maximum energy saving mode. This function, familiar from other Huawei devices, turns the smartphone into a dialer, turning off everything non-essential and reducing the brightness of the screen backlight to a minimum. In an extreme situation, when there is absolutely nowhere to recharge, it can help and is useful.

What about the firmware and interface?

Here we have Android 8.0 Oreo with the EMUI 8 shell. Nothing radically new, desktops and folders are like in iPhones, like most Chinese competitors. However, those who wish can display applications on a separate screen; this option is available in the settings. EMUI has its own versions of popular features like clearing memory, reducing the visible screen area for one-handed operation, and optimizing performance. For each of the two SIM cards you can configure separate melody call, call forwarding settings, allow or deny data transfer in general or only in roaming. There are a number of interesting little things like the “in your pocket” mode (which increases the ringer volume when the phone is in your pocket), the ability to hang up a call with the power button or a Bluetooth modem mode (in addition to the usual hotspot function Wi-Fi access). There is a vision protection mode (blue filter), it can be turned on automatically according to a schedule (but you cannot say “turn on after sunset”, as in MIUI). I won’t dwell on the shell in detail; it was recently written about in reviews or.

The top curtain with notifications seems to be the same as everyone else's. But in Huawei devices Traditionally, it can be pulled out without touching the screen, but by swiping from top to bottom along the fingerprint scanner. And by tapping on it, you can clear read notifications in this curtain. Personally, this solution seems very convenient to me: every time, switching from Huawei smartphone to another device with the same rear scanner location, at first you curse at the non-working function. A number of types of special alerts that are irrelevant for our market are supported: emergency, “serious danger”, AMBER alert and non-disabled (!) “presidential notifications”. It’s interesting how often the latter come to smartphone owners in their homeland.

Another feature of the device is face recognition unlocking. The trend set in the iPhone X has already reached the two hundred dollar segment. This function works quite stably and from any angle, that is, the phone can be held upside down, the main thing is that the face falls into the frame of the front camera. But recognition does not always happen instantly; you have to get used to it. If you grimace, your face will not be recognized. I don’t have a twin brother; I couldn’t check this aspect of security.

How are things going with the camera?

As we already understood, the main camera is single. Its matrix is 13-megapixel, while the front camera has an 8-megapixel sensor. Both cameras are equipped with flashes (both are also single). For lovers of self-portraits, the presence of a backlight on the front panel is a clear plus. They also have a “perfect selfie” function. In this mode, you can adjust the oval of the face, eye size and lighting parameters. In my opinion, good way make yourself look like an alien, nothing more. There is a now traditional setting for correcting skin defects (called “decoration mode”) and stickers (“watermark”) with a date, place, weather or all sorts of pictures, which are now proudly called “elements of augmented reality.” The shooting interface is quite simple and does not offer an abundance of functions. The maximum video resolution is FullHD, there is no slow motion mode. I didn’t find a timelapse either, but there is a panorama.
