Appearance

Huawei Y6 Prime 2018 is a typical budget smartphone with some atypical features inexpensive smartphones functions. For example, our test subject is equipped with a display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. You don’t need to be a prophet here to predict a further offensive of this format screens. And only a matter of time remains a complete or almost complete abandonment of the “warm tube” 16:9 in favor of the newfangled aspect ratio. But now this is a “trick” for the budget class.

The body of the device is quite thin and light in weight. But the rigidity of the case is clearly not enough, so when you try to twist and squeeze it readily gives in, but, what is noteworthy, it does not make a sound. Because of this, for a moment there is a feeling that the body is rubber. When you lightly tap the smartphone, the mechanical keys rattle a little. The body is completely plastic, and the back cover, of course, too. The surface of the back panel is smooth, with a matte finish, so fingerprints are not too noticeable on the blue version. Of course, the least brand is the gold modification, and the most dirty is the black one. However, even in the black version, the “fingers” will not cause much trouble, because the body is quite easy to clean. The ends are plastic with a mirror surface. Here the prints are more noticeable, but, oddly enough, the glossy inserts are not particularly afraid of scratches and abrasions.

In front, above the display, there is a speaker, a light and proximity sensor, a front camera, and a flash, which is hidden by black tinting. Looking ahead, it is worth noting that this flash masking greatly reduces the light output, which affects the quality of lighting and, as a result, the quality of pictures. Here the designers clearly played too hard, because the yellow dot of the LED would not have greatly affected the overall perception of the smartphone’s design. From the rear you can see a camera, a flash, a microphone and a fingerprint sensor, which the .

On the left side surface, only a tray is noticeable, which allows you to simultaneously install a pair of nanoSIM SIM cards and microSD media. On the right side surface there is a standard set of volume control and lock keys.

There is only a connection connector on top, and a microUSB connector, a microphone and a system speaker on the bottom.

Display

The smartphone uses an IPS matrix with a diagonal of 5.7 inches, an aspect ratio of 18:9 and HD+ resolution (720*1440). This cannot be said to be a drawback, because even the more expensive one with a larger diagonal has the same resolution. The display supports up to 10 simultaneous presses. It was not possible to check the presence and quality of the oleophobic coating because the smartphone was provided with protective glass. As testing has shown, exactly the same matrix is used as in the slightly more accessible one. At maximum backlight power, the brightness of the white field is 386.77 cd/m2, and the brightness of the black field is 0.383 cd/m2, which gives a static contrast of 1010:1.

With color accuracy, the situation is the same as in the case. The measured gamma value is 2.54, the color temperature is quite high. The color deviation Delta E on the gray wedge gradually increases from black to light tones, and on white it reaches 19.1. On primary colors (CMYRGB) the deviation does not exceed 6.8. The color gamut is slightly different from the standard sRGB color space, but very close to it.

Sound

The smartphone is equipped with a pair of speakers – conversational and system. Unfortunately, the earpiece is not used as a playback speaker. However, the system speaker itself is quite loud. When playing a test signal with a frequency of 1 kHz at a distance of 1 meter from the smartphone, a level of 81.3 dBA was recorded, which is very loud by smartphone standards. There are no obvious defects such as crackling or hissing, but at some frequencies during installation maximum level volume, the speaker is choking, and frequency range not impressive. However, taking into account the cost of the experimental device, the sound quality should be considered quite decent. When playing the test signal on the analog audio output, a value of 233.2 mV was recorded when operating with a 32 Ohm load, and 171.3 mV when using a 16 Ohm load.

Performance

The smartphone is based on the same system-on-chip as the Qualcomm Snapdragon 425. This SoC, made using a 28 nm process technology, is equipped with 4 Cortex A53 cores with a frequency of up to 1.4 GHz. The video subsystem is based on Adreno 308. LPDDR3 RAM is 3 GB, which is 1 GB more than the Y6 2018. The ROM is also larger - 32 GB versus 16 GB. Looking ahead, it is worth noting that in addition to having a larger capacity, the built-in storage device is also faster.

System performance was measured in synthetic PCMark, 3DMark, Geekbench 4, AnTuTu v7. Memory speed was assessed using the AndroBench application. Testing was also carried out in cross-platform javascript tests (Octane, Mozilla Kraken JavaScript and SunSpider). The results of these tests significantly depend on the browser used, so we used Google Chrome, as the most common. Testing was also carried out in CPU application Throttling Test, which determines throttling under prolonged high loads. This test allows you to evaluate the efficiency of the heat removal system and performance under long-term loads.
The following smartphones were chosen as opponents:
: MediaTek MT6737T, 3 GB, RAM, 5.5 inches, 720*1280;
: Samsung Exynos 7 Quad (7570), 4 cores (4x1.4 GHz), 2 GB, RAM, 5.5 inches, 720*1280;
: Qualcomm Snapdragon 425, 2 GB, RAM, 5.7 inches, 720*1440

Camera

The smartphone uses exactly the same rear camera as the . It is based on a 13 MP sensor with 5 phase sensors. The lens aperture is f/2.2. The front camera is 8 MP with an f/2.0 lens aperture, while the regular version of the Y6 2018 is equipped with a 5 MP sensor. The Y6 Prime 2018 front camera has higher not only resolution, but also the overall quality of the resulting images, both in good lighting and in low light.

daylight artificial lighting, 30 lux

flash lighting

The test subject also has a front flash, but it is tinted to match the color of the body, so the light output from it is small, and at a distance of a meter from the smartphone it was possible to record only 3.4 lux. The rear flash is much more powerful - at a distance of 1 meter it provides 33.5 lux of illumination. The results are almost the same as in the case.

There are no camera controls in the pre-installed app manual settings, but there is the possibility of transferring control third party applications using Camera 2 API. In addition, there is support for shooting in RAW.

To evaluate image quality, a test pattern was shot in Adobe Lightroom with a sensitivity of ISO 100-3200 in steps of 1 EV. Below are cropped fragments.

The Huawei Y6 Prime 2018 smartphone is a rare example of a budget gadget that combines premium features, stylish appearance and an affordable price.

Laconic and stylish

The smartphone has an impressive and practical design. The strict plastic case with a matte finish is complemented by a chrome frame, which gives the gadget both a classic and modern look. The screen, as expected in 2018, is FullView with thin frames and glossy 2.5D glass. There is nothing superfluous on the front panel, since all the navigation buttons are on the screen.

High quality assembly is complemented by comfort during use. The smartphone has extremely pleasant ergonomics, which is achieved by rounded edges and corners. The dimensions also facilitate convenient one-handed operation: with a height of 152.4 mm, a width of 73 mm and a thickness of 7.8 mm, the gadget weighs only 150 grams. So the hand does not get tired even after using the device for many hours.

Full palette of colors

Y6 Prime 2018 received a 5.7-inch IPS screen with a resolution of 1440 by 720 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9. The display has high contrast, good detail and natural color reproduction.

Even in sunny weather, all information remains readable without loss of color shades, so you can see the smallest details of on-screen interfaces. In addition, already proven vision protection technology is used here. You can adjust colors and contrast depending on the time of day, adjust color temperature, and change screen resolution.

Time-tested iron

The smartphone runs on one of the most popular quad-core chipsets Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 with clock frequency 1.4 GHz. This model“pebble” has shown itself perfectly in several generations budget smartphones, providing high performance in multitasking mode. This SoC is distinguished by excellent energy efficiency indicators, due to which the 3000 mAh battery can last at maximum modes for a whole day.

The Adreno 308 3D accelerator runs games consistently at medium and high settings. A random access memory 2 GB is more than enough for both everyday tasks and heavy-duty applications. If the built-in memory of 16 GB is not enough for you, you can additionally buy a 256 GB card, especially since there is a separate slot for it.

Particular attention is paid to sound quality in the smartphone. The audio processing system combined with a powerful speaker provides clear and loud noise up to 88 dB. At the same time, you can synchronize two gadgets via Bluetooth, creating a truly surround sound music party.

A camera that doesn't miss a beat

The 13-megapixel main photo module of the smartphone is characterized by fast focusing and excellent detail in good lighting. And at dusk, the HDR mode will come to the rescue.

Particular emphasis in the smartphone is placed on the quality of selfies. 8 MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture, except standard settings, equipped with the “Perfect Selfie” function. With its help, you can subtly adjust your facial contour, eye size, skin tone and ambient lighting. You can also decorate the finished photo with cute stickers.

Also, the capabilities of the front module are expanded due to the facial recognition function, which allows you to unlock the smartphone screen.

The Huawei Y6 (2018) smartphone was recently presented to the Chinese company without much fanfare, as happens with flagship models. The manufacturer announced the new mobile device through the corresponding page on its official website. In fact, the new product is a renamed version of the simplest version.

The Huawei Y6 (2018) body is made of metal with a glass front panel. All elements are located in their usual places. It is worth paying attention to the main camera module. No matter how it might seem, the new product has only one sensor with an LED flash. In general, the smartphone is no different from the above-mentioned Honor 7A in a minimal modification, with the exception of the processor. The device has a 4-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 chip with a clock frequency of 1.4 GHz. Features such as a powerful main speaker with support for Huawei Histen, a “Party” mode for simultaneously playing music from several devices, face unlocking and basic AR effects are present.

Unlike Honor, the device has NFC, but this does not apply to all available models:

  • ATU-L11 LTE FDD with NFC
  • ATU-LX3/ATU-L21 LTE FDD without NFC
  • ATU-L22 LTE FDD/LTE TDD without NFC

Unfortunately, the cost of Huawei Y6 (2018) has not yet been announced, but presumably the price tag will not exceed 150 euros/200 dollars/12,500 rubles. Among the available countries for sale is Russia.

Technical Huawei specifications Y6 (2018):

Huawei, as usual, is in its repertoire: it “re-released” the existing model, called it differently, and presented the device on the international market. Huawei Enjoy 5, Honor Holly 2 Plus, Honor 5X Play, Honor 4C Pro are the same smartphone. Only now it is called Huawei Y6 Pro. Announced in 2015, but still sold to this day.

The Y6 Pro is a budget model, but is interesting due to its solid battery capacity and decent amount of RAM. The minimum price that could be found in online stores is $135. Well-known and well-promoted stores sell goods a little more expensive – for 155 USD. The prices shown are approximate and valid at the time of writing this review.

The smartphone has a good filling, as for a budget device.

Design, buttons and connectors

There are no surprises in terms of design: a typical plastic rectangle with rounded corners. The thickness of 9.7 mm and weight of 160 g is due to the capacious battery. The height of the product is 143.1 mm, width – 71.8 mm.

The sloping back panel is covered with a diagonal pattern that can be felt with your fingers.

Not far from the front camera and the speaker grille there is an event indicator. Most of the elements on the body have a classic, familiar arrangement.

The power/volume buttons are on the edge on the right, the multimedia speaker and MicroUSB are on the bottom.

3.5 mm audio jack – on top.
But the navigation buttons are programmatically displayed on the display. The model is available in three colors: gold, white and grey.

CPU

Since this model focuses on autonomy, an economical 64-bit MediaTek MT6735P processor with a Mali-T720 video chip was installed, as the information on the official website and most reviewers says. But after installing the CPU-Z applicationit became clear that the smartphone has a different chipset, namely MT6582 with Mali-400 MP video chip. And this is a weaker chipset. The difference in the Antutu test is 10,000 points: MT6735P scores 35,000; MT6582 - 25,000 points. Why is this happening?

But the thing is that in addition to different names in different regions Also, a smartphone called Huawei Y6 Pro is listed on the official website as a smartphone with a more powerful chipset than it actually is. There are many build numbers, the main ones are:

  • HUAWEI Y6 Pro TIT-U02 - MediaTek MT6582 + Mali-400MP2
  • TIT-AL00 (Enjoy 5 and other models) - MT6735P + Mali-T720
  • TIT-L01 (Honor 4C Pro) - MT6735P + Mali-T720

The HUAWEI Y6 Pro TIT-U02 model is sold in Ukraine; it does not have LTE and has a weaker chipset.

When purchasing, go to Settings > About phone > Build number, and make sure which device you are purchasing. Due to incorrect information on the official website, there may be confusion in Ukraine that a device is being sold with the MT6735P + Mali-T720 chipset, but in fact it is a weaker chip.

Because of this, many bloggers wrote incorrect information about the smartphone, which is sold in Ukraine. Hello, can you hear me?)

Some people complain that resource-intensive games lag and freeze. You just don’t always need to rely on standard optimization for specific hardware. Modern games provide the ability to independently set the appropriate settings. As a rule, with such hardware you need to focus on medium and low parameters.

Memory

The smartphone has 2 GB of RAM. An excellent indicator for a budget model. This is enough for an unpretentious user to run several applications simultaneously.

Built-in memory – 16 GB. Let's subtract what the system takes and we get 10.55 GB free space. You can load applications and some games there, and there will still be some space left. And if not, don’t worry, it comes to the rescue removable storage. In the settings, you can select it as the main location for installing applications. The maximum size of a supported flash drive is 128 GB, and a separate slot is provided for it.

Autonomous operation

As mentioned earlier, the main feature of this device can be considered high capacity battery: 4000 mAh. Excellent battery life in mixed use cases. If you take your smartphone seriously, turn on wireless transmission data, and torment it with the Internet, calls, watching videos, filming with a camera - it will easily withstand a day under extreme loads.

With more moderate use, the battery usually lasts for two days. If you turn off wireless network, and run FullHD video at full brightness, it will play continuously for up to 10 hours. And it will take 2 hours to fully recharge.

Like other devices from this manufacturer, there is an advanced power consumption setting mode. It allows you to keep control over charge consumption. To the point of limiting functionality for the sake of extra hours battery life. Can also charge others mobile devices, connecting to the MicroUSB connector.

Camera

The main camera allows you to take pictures with a resolution of 13 MP. The aperture value is f/2.0. There is autofocus, which works quickly during the day, and a medium-brightness LED flash. The camera app is quite functional and yet easy to learn. You can change exposure values and adjust focus on the fly. It is possible to adjust white balance, contrast, ISO, saturation, sharpness.

IN ideal conditions Automatic lighting automatically selects the white balance. The resulting images have good contrast and good color rendition. The overall level of detail is normal, and at close ranges it is even good.

If you look closely at daytime photos, you can see grain and noise. However, we will make a discount on the budget of the device.

When creating panoramas, the frames are well glued together, the “seams” are invisible. A smartphone copes best with product photography, you can achieve beautiful effect bokeh (see box above). Indoors with artificial lighting, detail is reduced, but the camera holds up well.

In room

Another indoor shot:

Even at night you can get more or less acceptable quality footage.

Unexpectedly: the stock camera allows you to record videos in maximum HD (1280 x 720) resolution. The quality is also dull: there is not enough color saturation and picture clarity. The 5 MP front module is wide-angle (84 degrees), so not only the face of the smartphone owner fits into the frame. The quality of the resulting photographs is quite acceptable.

Selfie camera shot

Video recording is possible in HD resolution.

Display

Diagonal 5 inches, resolution 1280 x 720, IPS matrix. Pixel density 293 dpi. For budget employees - a classic of the genre. The image quality is expectedly good, both in contrast and color rendition. By tilting the device in different directions, the user will not notice strong fading of the image or inversion of colors on the screen. The minimum brightness level is quite comfortable for using the device in complete darkness.

When exposed to direct sunlight, unfortunately, the brightness reserve is not enough, and the contents of the screen fade. For those who lack the saturation of the image, or, on the contrary, prefer calmer tones, the ability to adjust the color temperature will be useful. The touchscreen can recognize up to 5 simultaneous presses.

There is also an unpleasant moment (not everyone has it): sometimes the touchscreen has some problems with pressure sensitivity. Therefore, you have to either “poke” it several times, or press harder than usual. Usually, to correct the situation, you need to find the “Accessibility” section in the settings menu. There will be a “Sensitive Mode” item, and you need to activate it. However, no such problems were noticed in our smartphone.

Networking capabilities

Under the back cover there are slots for 2 micro-SIM cards. The smartphone is designed to work in 2G/3G networks. WiFi single band – 2.4 GHz. Bluetooth version – 4.0. All communications work flawlessly.

Responsible for navigation and geopositioning: GPS, GLONASS, A-GPS. Processors from MediaTek have not earned the best reputation due to known problems with navigation. However, Huawei Y6 Pro surprises with excellent GPS and GLONASS performance. It “clings” to satellites very quickly, cold start in just 15 seconds. With a hot start, all navigation systems are ready for operation in less than 10 seconds.

Sound

The main speaker is average in volume, normal in sound quality. Compare with many other budget models. The earpiece is normal, it doesn’t “scream”, but it’s not quiet either. The volume reserve when listening to music on headphones is not the most impressive. If the environment is noisy, you may need to raise the volume level to maximum value. Enthusiasts found a solution to this problem by making changes to the engineering menu.

Software part

As operating system Android 5.1 is used. The shell is EMUI 3.1 Lite, which is radically different in appearance from the stock Android interface. The lightweight version of the shell is simple without additional features. Only the most important and useful branded applications remain. Full version EMUI is usually installed on smartphones that are more expensive and more powerful.

There is information from the manufacturer's support service that work is underway to update the firmware to Android 6. Naturally, no one gives specific dates.

Additional features

  • The smartphone can be turned into a Power Bank by selecting the appropriate option in the settings section.
  • In emergency situations, you can discreetly activate video recording even if the screen is locked. To do this, it is enough to make a predetermined number of presses on the volume button.

Advantages and disadvantages

Pros:

  • good autonomy;
  • excellent performance of navigation modules;
  • good photo opportunities;
  • separate slots for SIM and MicroSD.

Minuses:

  • low resolution and quality of recorded video;
  • problems with touch sensitivity;
  • non-removable battery in a plastic case.

Who is a smartphone suitable for?

For those who are looking for an inexpensive dual-SIM 3G/4G device with a decent battery, a decent camera, and fast and stable navigation.

Our review of the Huawei Y6 Pro smartphone

On the one hand, in its price category the smartphone is not bad in most respects, and has quite significant advantages. On the other hand, the nuances described in the review with video resolution and a glitchy sensor are perceived as nonsense. Such ridiculous and obvious mistakes should not be made, despite the fact that this is a budget model. However, there are owners of Huawei Y6 Pro who do not care about the quality of video recording, and they solved the problem with the screen by increasing its sensitivity to touch.

A $200 smartphone? - You need to go to that department where your eyes are getting more and more dizzy. Manufacturers are trying very hard to succeed here, because the price segment is really very massive. There are some angrier and more glamorous ones here. Today we have a device from the second category. Let's quickly see what kind of animal this is.

What is this?

Huawei Y6 Prime 2018 is a large (5.7" display diagonal) budget Android smartphone in a plastic case. Nowadays, you don’t need to add that it is “almost full-screen” (18x9 aspect ratio), but it is important to note that it does not have bangs/unibrow.

Why is he interesting?

First, we need to clarify that the word Prime in the title is very important. If we remove it, we get a completely different model. Younger and already clearly budget: 2 GB of RAM, 16 permanent memory, without a fingerprint scanner, and with a worse front camera. But there are no external differences, except for the golden version of the body color (black and blue are also found). This is exactly what we came across: it is immediately clear that this is a model with the Prime title.

Here's something a little more solid. The screen resolution, as in the younger model, is 1440x720, but the RAM is already 3 GB, and the permanent one is 32 GB. The device is based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 (MSM8917) platform - a quad-core processor with a frequency of up to 1.4 GHz. 3000 mAh battery, microUSB connector, fingerprint scanner on the rear panel... Boring? Prime also has more interesting features. Front flash, full tray for 2 SIM + 1 MicroSD, face unlock function, dual camera... Stop. It's not double. It seemed? Let's take a closer look.

What is in the box?

There is nothing unnecessary in the box. In addition to the smartphone itself - Charger, cable and paper clip. Jokes aside, but a paperclip is a really necessary thing. There is still no standard for the holes for removing the SIM card tray, and a pushpin, which can be used to easily open the tray in the iPhone, does not fit into the hole in the Huawei Y6 Prime, checked. So don't lose the paperclip. And be careful with the card tray, it's as long as a French baguette.

On a pleasant note, there is already a neat sticker on the screen. protective film for constant wearing. The unpleasant thing: it is more of a film than glass, and scratches quite easily. And also - no headset included (but it will be in commercial supplies, I just had no luck with the sample).

What does it look like?

More expensive than it is. Although this is a subjective assessment. But precisely because of the features appearance It may seem that there is a double camera here. Its lens and flash are covered by a black elongated module, exactly the same as the one behind which it is customary to install two lenses in more expensive models (the same Y7 Prime). But here he is alone. In addition to this module, on the rear panel there is a “dot” of the second microphone and a traditional round fingerprint scanner.

The frames around the edges of the screen are quite thin. At the top of the front panel led indicator, a light sensor (which pretends to be a second front camera), the front camera itself, an earpiece and a discreet selfie flash. The front camera is also used to unlock the smartphone when face is recognized. After pressing the power button and before the face is recognized, you can see the corresponding inscription on the screen.

Below the screen there is only a mirrored manufacturer's logo; all control buttons are drawn on the screen itself. On the bottom edge there are the most banal (like everyone else) round slots for a microphone and speaker on the sides of the MicroUSB connector. On the right is the power button and volume rocker, on the left is only the card tray, and on the top end is a 3.5 mm headphone jack. So far, fortunately, only flagships are abandoning it, as well as MicroUSB - in favor of Type C.

Everything is plastic, but assembled conscientiously, nothing creaks or wobbles. The roundness of the shape and the glossy mirror bezel around the perimeter of the device generally make it a kind of glamorous thing. At least this white and gold version. For some reason I remembered iPhone first three generations, their polished metal edging gave a similar impression.

How good is the screen?

Once upon a time, a 5.7-inch screen was considered huge, but nowadays it is just big. For some reason, programs that display the characteristics of the device get confused and determine the diagonal to be 5.9”, but the ruler confirms: 5.7. Despite the relatively low resolution, the pixels are invisible, and viewing angles are fine. The maximum brightness is 345.131 cd/m2, black field brightness is 0.393 cd/m2, contrast is 878:1. Not bad performance, but the color gamut is a little disappointing and the screen is a bit cold. However, this is not the first time we have encountered such a feature of Huawei displays. Let me remind you that the measurements were taken with default parameters; if desired, the color can be adjusted in the settings.

What about performance, autonomy, sound?

The Snapdragon 425 processor is an old and proven option for budget employees. More than one generation has been built on it. Here is Xiaomi with the Redmi 4 and 5 A series, and Samsung J-series, and E5-e Moto, and many other models. Performance is predictable. In tests the numbers are depressingly low, but in real life There's not much to complain about. The interface works quickly, simple toys work without problems. Something a little heavier like NFS: No Limits or Minecraft (a world with many objects) is also running, although not as quickly as demanding players would like.

Let me remind you that the Prime model has exclusively 32 GB of storage and 3 GB of RAM. Normal for the modern average person. There is Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz only), Bluetooth, GPS/GLONASS - standard set. There are no frills like NFC or infrared remote control. The most attentive readers will argue that there should be NFC, but our modification with the ATU-L31 index does not have this chip. But it is only available in the ATU-L11 version; I can’t say anything about its supply to our market. But I can wish Huawei to quickly purchase modern Wi-Fi modules, because this story with the lack of support for the five-gigahertz range in almost all devices except flagships has been going on for a long time and it’s time to solve it.

But there is FM radio. By the way, let's note the sound. The marketing campaign for this device mentions a particularly loud speaker that produces "up to 88 dB." Indeed, subjectively it sounds louder than average. At the same time, on maximum volume It doesn’t wheeze and handles higher frequencies quite accurately. Bass transmission is understandably worse. But still, for voicing gatherings in the absence of other speakers, it is better suited than most “classmate devices”.

Although this figure of 88 decibels is disturbing, let’s check. We take a device for comparison (in our case it’s an iPhone 8), on it and on the experimental one we alternately play the same works from the repertoire of Metallica and AC/DC. We measure the noise level with a third smartphone using a software sound level meter from the Smart Tools package at a distance of 2 cm from the speaker. We calculate the average values and compare. Y6 Prime produced 84 dB at its peak, with an average of 79. The opponent got 83 and 78, respectively. Dry numbers say that the speaker is hardly head and shoulders louder than everyone else around. But it's still loud. And you can make it even louder in the “Party” mode, for which you will need at least one more smartphone of the same type: they will “sing in chorus.”

The battery is average, 3000 mAh, this is a common capacity. The device removed from charging in the morning by 10 pm shows 50-60% charge. With average usage. Just don’t ask what is included in it, you won’t get it right anyway. If you use it less intensively, you can do without charging for two days. Even more is possible, especially if you use the maximum energy saving mode. This function, familiar from other Huawei devices, turns the smartphone into a dialer, turning off everything non-essential and reducing the brightness of the screen backlight to a minimum. In an extreme situation, when there is absolutely nowhere to recharge, it can help and is useful.

What about the firmware and interface?

Here we have Android 8.0 Oreo with the EMUI 8 shell. Nothing radically new, desktops and folders are like in iPhones, like most Chinese competitors. However, those who wish can display applications on a separate screen; this option is available in the settings. EMUI has its own versions of popular features like clearing memory, reducing the visible screen area for one-handed operation, and optimizing performance. For each of the two SIM cards you can configure separate melody call, call forwarding settings, allow or deny data transfer in general or only in roaming. There are a number of interesting little things like the “in your pocket” mode (which increases the ringer volume when the phone is in your pocket), the ability to hang up a call with the power button or a Bluetooth modem mode (in addition to the usual hotspot function Wi-Fi access). There is a vision protection mode (blue filter), it can be turned on automatically according to a schedule (but you cannot say “turn on after sunset”, as in MIUI). I won’t go into detail about the shell; it was recently written about in reviews or.

The top curtain with notifications seems to be the same as everyone else's. But in Huawei devices, it can traditionally be pulled out without touching the screen, but by swiping from top to bottom along the fingerprint scanner. And by tapping on it, you can clear read notifications in this curtain. Personally, I find this solution very convenient: every time you switch from a Huawei smartphone to another device with the same rear scanner, at first you curse at the function not working. A number of types of special alerts that are irrelevant for our market are supported: emergency, “serious danger”, AMBER alert and non-disabled (!) “presidential notifications”. It’s interesting how often the latter come to smartphone owners in their homeland.

Another feature of the device is face recognition unlocking. The trend set in the iPhone X has already reached the two hundred dollar segment. This function works quite stably and from any angle, that is, the phone can be held upside down, the main thing is that the face falls into the frame front camera. But recognition does not always happen instantly; you have to get used to it. If you grimace, your face will not be recognized. I don’t have a twin brother; I couldn’t check this aspect of security.

How are things going with the camera?

As we already understood, the main camera is single. Its matrix is 13-megapixel, while the front camera has an 8-megapixel sensor. Both cameras are equipped with flashes (both are also single); for lovers of self-portraits, the presence of a backlight on the front panel is a clear plus. They also have a “perfect selfie” function. In this mode, you can adjust the oval of the face, eye size and lighting parameters. In my opinion, a good way to make yourself look like an alien, nothing more. There is a now traditional setting for correcting skin defects (called “decoration mode”) and stickers (“watermark”) with a date, place, weather or all sorts of pictures, which are now proudly called “elements of augmented reality.” The shooting interface is quite simple and does not offer an abundance of functions. The maximum video resolution is FullHD, there is no slow motion mode. I didn’t find a timelapse either, but there is a panorama.
