Where is Nokia Lumia 630

The Lumia 630 Dual sim that recently came into my hands is a representative of the new generation of "state employees" on Windows based Phone. A recognizable design, a 4.5-inch screen, a 4-core processor, but the main thing is that we have the first “Winphone” with two slots for SIM cards. And 630 was the first to go on sale with Windows Phone new version 8.1 on board.

The device turned out to be really nice. And I was especially happy to pick it up immediately after testing the Nokia X (you can read it), because X is something beyond good and evil. And WP, no matter how you and I feel about it, is still a very fast, smooth OS, this cannot be taken away.

Review budget smartphone Nokia Lumia 630 Dual sim Before proceeding directly to the review, I note that the 630 exists in two versions: with the Dual sim prefix and without it. The phones differ, as one can easily assume, only in that one has a SIM card slot (that’s what I tested). Set A remarkable moment: for the first time in a loooong time, Nokia abandoned blue boxes. Eh, an era has passed :-). But one cannot but agree: new packaging looks interesting and stylish. It also has a “window” through which you can see the color of the device.

In the box, in addition to the phone, you will find a charger (note - for a socket, and not the usual “designer” of a charger and a data cable), a warranty, instructions and a replaceable black back panel (it is always black, while the main cover of the phone can be white, green, yellow or orange). There are no headphones or cable for PC, such is the savings.

Photo - WP Central (I received the device without charging, unfortunately)

Design All "Lumiyas" are generally similar to each other and have polycarbonate bodies. Both back panels of the 630 are matte, somewhat rough, pleasant to the touch, and fit securely in the hand. True, fingerprints may be visible on them.

The front panel of the smartphone is slightly wider than the back, and the ends are beveled. Due to this, the handset is comfortable in the palm of your hand.

On the front panel there is a speaker, a logo and a microphone hole. There is nothing more superfluous here - the control keys are now on-screen, there are no light sensors, proximity sensors or a front camera. The screen frames are small; when the backlight is turned off, it seems that the display occupies the entire front surface of the phone. By the way, it’s funny, but if you look at it in the light, the screen matrix has a purple tint, I’ve never seen anything like it before.

The front panel is protected by Gorilla Glass 3, which is very durable and not at all afraid of scratches (the phone arrived to me already beaten by life, but the screen is ideal). It’s just a pity that there is no oleophobic coating - fingerprints quickly appear on the glass, they are very noticeable.

As for the connectors, there is a headphone input at the top, a microUSB at the bottom, and a volume rocker and a power key on the right side. The arrangement of the elements is very convenient; in particular, you don’t need to reach anywhere to get the lock button. “Where is the camera key?” you ask. And nowhere. For a long time, MS required its partners to have this key on the case, but then they suddenly changed their minds. But the savings! Yes - huge savings, on a whole button. And the convenience and small but pleasant plus of WP in the form of instant launch of the camera even when the phone is locked are gone. At least in the case of the "state budget" Lumia 630.

Removing the back cover is easy. The main thing is to read the instructions before doing this. Or look at the sticker on this very lid. It seems that one of my colleagues who tested the handset earlier decided to rely on their strength instead of looking for information, and persistently (perhaps with improvised means) tried to tear off the cover by the upper right corner. Therefore, the orange panel looks ugly, but the black one, fortunately, was in perfect condition. In general, to remove the panel, just press the central part with the logo with your thumb and pull the cover towards you.

Under rear panel you will see a removable battery, unusually elongated, two words for SIM cards and a slot for a memory card.

Due to the fact that the back cover is solid (in the sense that it is made of a single piece of plastic along with the sides), the phone turned out to be durable and monolithic. The assembly is excellent, there are no backlashes or squeaks.

Screen Lumia 630 is equipped with a 4.5-inch IPS display with support for ClearBlack technology (high black depth, excellent readability in sunlight), resolution 854x480 pixels. The picture is excellent: juicy, bright, maximum viewing angles. The diagonal is relatively small, so the grain is invisible. However, after the HD screens I’m used to, the fuzzy fonts and edges of the icons are somewhat annoying.

In the settings you can change the color temperature of the display.

There is no light level sensor, so there is no automatic brightness adjustment either. And the role of a proximity sensor is played by touch screen, you don’t have to be afraid that when you put the phone to your ear you’ll press the wrong thing.

The sensory response is excellent. This has never been a problem in WP. In particular, the recognition accuracy when typing on the keyboard is high thanks to special mechanisms.

Camera That's what a budget employee is - a simple 5-megapixel camera module, no flash. In my opinion, no more is needed - for viewing on a phone screen, for social networks, this resolution is enough.

The photo quality turned out to be very good (and for a state employee, absolutely excellent). The colors are rich, the detail is decent, and the clarity is excellent. Even in low-light conditions, bright images are obtained - post-processing cleverly “pulls out” the brightness. However, this does result in digital noise and graininess. Autofocus works clearly and quickly, white balance is practically correct. You can find all examples of photos from the 630 in maximum resolution in our album on Yandex.Photos, but here are a few previews:

The camera is also capable of recording video in 720p resolution at 30 frames per second. Good quality.

There is no front camera. It's a shame they saved money on it. You can’t even take a selfie with a handset that costs 8 thousand, and you can’t really chat with your relatives on Skype.

The smartphone has two photography applications - a standard WP camera and an advanced Nokia camera with many manual settings. With proper knowledge of photography, it will allow you to get excellent shots.

Among the additional photo applications, “Live Photos” (frames with moving elements) are available. Other interesting utilities from Nokia and Microsoft (panorama, face enhancement, focus change, photo stories, etc.) can be downloaded from the marketplace.

Battery The Lumia 630 is equipped with a decent capacity 1830 mAh battery. At the same time, the OS is well optimized, in general, the phone turned out to be “tenacious”. During normal use (every day 10-20 minutes of calls, an hour of listening to music or watching videos, an hour of working with software, sometimes starting GPS to determine the position, in general 2-3 hours of working on the Internet via 3G and Wi-Fi) 630- That's enough for about a day and a half. If you use your smartphone less actively, it will easily work for 2-3 days.

Nokia itself indicates the following battery characteristics of the Nokia 630:

Hardware The smartphone runs on the Snapdragon 400 (MSM8926) chipset with 4 cores at 1.2 GHz from Qualcomm. Graphics accelerator - Adreno 305. 512 MB available random access memory(another point where they saved money is that some “heavy” games like N.O.V.A. 3 are not available for the 630, they are simply not displayed in the market) and 8 GB main (about 5 GB is available to the user, and MS also likes to remind you about the free 7 GB in cloud storage OneDrive). There is a slot for microSD memory cards up to 128 GB.

In the best traditions of WP, the device works very quickly (I was also indescribably happy about this after Nokia X), the interface is extremely smooth.

There is support for Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth. No problems with work wireless networks was not present during the test. The GPS/GLONASS module determines the position clearly and quickly.

Software part, work with two SIM Nokia 630 runs on Windows Phone 8.1 OS with a package of software improvements Lumia Cyan.

The most noticeable innovation in 8.1 is the notification feed, which is called up by a “curtain”, like in Android. It’s a convenient thing, and it’s not without reason that it eventually came to both WP and iOS. There in the “curtain” there is the ability to quickly enable various functions (moreover, in the settings you can choose what will be displayed there). Control keys are now on-screen.

Among other things - separate volume control, additional settings interface (wallpaper on the desktop, ability to increase the number of tiles), new design system applications, new energy saving algorithms, updated browser Internet Explorer 11 (has acquired an incognito mode and allows you to synchronize tabs open on your smartphone with the browser on home computer), saving settings during backup, VPN support, a utility for monitoring Internet traffic, entering text using the “swipe” method, etc. Appeared and voice assistant Cortana ( analogue of Siri and Google Now), but for now it only works in the US.

In addition, WP 8.1 includes the ability to work with two SIMs. Quite strange: for each SIM card on the desktop there is its own “phone” tile and its own “messages” tile. Moreover, if you open the dialer of the first SIM, then top corner There will be a switch, that is, you can call from the second SIM. The same goes for messages. If desired, tiles from different SIM cards can be combined.

Each contact card also has a SIM switch.

The Lumia 630 has one radio module, that is, when talking on one SIM, the second one will not be available. To solve this problem, a special technology has been developed - you can configure it in the "Network+" section. In essence, this is a simple forwarding, if the second SIM is out of range, then the call will be forwarded to the first (and vice versa, according to your choice), and you can see who is calling and, perhaps, ask the first interlocutor to wait by holding the call. I have previously seen a similar implementation of “dualism” in OPPO and Samsung smartphones. A trifle, but how convenient!

I won't write about standard applications WP, I touched on them in detail in previous reviews (for example,), but I note that a set of very interesting software has appeared under the Bing brand. These are information applications - health and fitness (a lot of information about nutrition, sports exercises, a reference book of diseases, a pedometer), cooking, sports, news, travel.

Conclusions and competitors

Nokia Lumia 630 is a wonderful budget phone. For an acceptable amount of 6.5-8 thousand rubles you will get a nice device in a bright case with a replaceable panel. The device has excellent screen, fast hardware, has two slots for SIM cards and a capacious battery. A good option for those who deliberately prefer Windows Phone as the main OS, or for inexperienced users.

For obvious reasons, the 630 has no competitors on the same platform - it is the first “dualsim” in the line. If dual-SIM functionality is not important to you, then pay attention to the Nokia Lumia 720 (costs 7-8 thousand, has best camera+ front camera, more capacious battery) or Nokia Lumia 620 (predecessor of the 630, now costs only 5500 and has front camera). There is also a Lumia 630 without a Dual sim prefix, which is 500-1000 rubles cheaper.

Also, as an alternative, you can consider the new Nokia X2 dual sim. A device based on “stripped-down” Android, a direct descendant of the Nokia X model. Let me remind you that the Nokia X gave me a negative impression, I haven’t come across the X2 yet, perhaps they have improved a lot there.

And, of course, for the money they ask for the Lumia 630, you can buy a lot of Android devices. If we are talking about “Chinese” brands, then they will also be much cheaper at similar or best characteristics(offhand - Alcatel POP C5 5036D, Philips S308, Fly IQ4405 EVO Chiс 1, Lenovo A680). Well, offers from famous companies, of course, are not cheap. For example, Sony Xperia M2 Dual sim costs 11 thousand. LG L90 - 10 thousand. The older models of these brands are quite interesting. In particular, the Sony Xperia M dual (hardware-wise, similar to the 630) costs 8,500 rubles. Or LG L65 D285, offered for 7 thousand. You can also pay attention to HTC Desire 310 Dual Sim And Samsung Galaxy Core 2 Duos.

P.S. Some of the screenshots were taken from the sites hi-tech.mail.ru, ms-devices.com and sotovik, since I accidentally deleted my own and discovered it too late :-(

2. Press "PENCIL" (and DO NOT release)
3. Press the power button
4. Hold the “PENCIL” until it is FULLY loaded!!!
*#2820# - unique address of the Bluetooth module of your device (may be needed by other devices that cannot display names).
*#7370925538# - clearing the “Wallet” (for 6600 and higher - which have a “Wallet”).
*3370# (phone must reboot) improves sound quality (using EFR), but reduces battery life.
#3370# - resets the sound quality to normal (cancels the *3370# code).
EFR CODEC (Enhanced Full Rate)
This function when enabled, in theory, it should significantly improve the quality of transmitted speech, but, unfortunately, it must be supported by the operator cellular communications. When it works, the phone's power consumption during talk time increases slightly (about 5%). As far as we know, none of the Russian mobile operators support this function. The principle is based on a different speech compression algorithm (ACELP) and occupies a wider frequency band.
*4720# - enable Half Rate Codec (HFR)
#4720# - disable Half Rate Codec (HFR)
HR CODEC (Half Rate)
Significantly degrades speech quality, but saves battery by about 30%. Again, must be supported mobile operator.
