What phone models support Android Pay. Android pay - all the nuances of using the system

If compatible with Samsung Pay and Apple Pay Although not everyone can afford devices, today it makes contactless payments truly accessible. You can buy a smartphone that supports this service for even less than 10,000 rubles. Large sales networks now have at least five worthy models with NFC. And even though they have not been new products for a long time, they can be recommended to those who want to save money.

Alcatel One Touch Idol 3 - from 8,490 rubles

This is a 2015 phablet that was released as a sub-flagship and seemed very interesting for the money. Now it costs less than 9,000 rubles, which makes it an even more attractive solution. This is a model balanced in all respects in a very thin and comfortable case, and even with good stereo speakers.

Wileyfox Swift 2 -

This is a completely unique offer from one of the Russian retailers. The smartphone has good hardware, a screen with Gorilla Glass 3, a fingerprint scanner and a USB Type-C connector - all this is a rarity for devices in this price category. The only drawback worth highlighting is the lack of charging in the basic configuration, but this is unlikely to be a critical factor for anyone.

LG G4s -

Quite an old model, but still available in free retail. The only thing that distinguishes it is its recognizable design, inherited from the flagship, a powerful chip for its class, and a screen with FullHD resolution. The device has nothing else to boast about: the memory capacity is modest, the cameras aren’t great either, and the battery capacity is quite small.

HTC Desire 630 - from 9,990 rubles

A model with a very original design, a good main camera and high-quality HTC BoomSound sound for headphones with a Dolby Audio profile. However, there are also many disadvantages, the main ones being a modest processor and lack of LTE support, which will be very critical for many.

Nokia 3 -

This affordable new product from the revived Nokia company has a good design, a good selfie camera and, most importantly, a modern operating system - out of the box the smartphone runs on Android based 7.0 Nougat, updates for which will be released as quickly as possible. The smartphone is currently only available for pre-order; it will launch on June 15.

All these smartphones, regardless of price and positioning, fulfill two main conditions of support payment system Android Pay: They are equipped with an NFC chip and run on OS version no earlier than 4.4 KitKat. The rest is a matter of everyone’s preferences, although even in terms of bare characteristics, one of these five looks significantly more attractive than others Wileyfox Swift 2 . Next we can note the Nokia 3, as just a fresh device on a clean Android 7.0 OS with excellent software support.

Payment using a bank card is made not only for purchases in online stores, but also in regular supermarkets. However, for a long time a person was literally tied to his card, which he always had to carry with him. And in this case, no one is safe from the loss or theft of a valuable piece of plastic.

A solution was found in 2014, when Apple launched the system mobile payments Apple Pay. The bank card was linked to the application, and payment for goods and services was made via wireless communication.

Considering that the most popular operating system in the world is Android, installed on a huge number of mobile devices, the emergence of a mobile payment system for this OS was only a matter of time. In 2015, Google launched Android Pay in the US, Australia, New Zealand and several countries in Europe and Southeast Asia. And on May 23, 2017, Android Pay came to Russia.

Which smartphones does Android Pay work on?

Over the past two years, a lot of gadgets have appeared on the smartphone market that support payment mobile system from Google. In order to use the wireless payment function, the mobile device must meet certain requirements:

It is also worth noting that a huge number of credit institutions, supermarkets, post offices, transport offices, theaters and cinemas now work with the Android Pay system. As a rule, the payment point is equipped with a special marker, which indicates that the client can pay for the product or service using his smartphone.

How to install Android Pay

Installing a mobile payment application is no different from installing any other utility that is downloaded from Google Play:

Download Android Pay at official page applications

    Install app

Link a bank card to the system

    Set up screen lock

Confirm the card via call or SMS

From now on, Android Pay is extremely easy to use. You need to launch the application and bring your phone to a special payment terminal. By the way, the application also works in offline mode. If the product amount exceeds the limit of 1000 rubles, you will have to enter the PIN code from the card.

Android Pay: a security issue

Many users are interested in how protected smartphones that support Android Pay and personal data on them are from outside interference. This diagram shows the operating algorithm of the mobile payment system:

Thus, the payment is designed for multi-stage processing with several levels of encryption. In addition, all user data that is stored on bank card, are not contained in the device memory. All information is located on a remote server, and smartphones with Android pay contain only virtual image, which in itself is useless to a potential attacker.

During the payment transaction, the system creates a temporary unique token, and the payment process itself is confirmed by the bank. Of course, an experienced hacker can intercept this data, but for him it will have absolutely no value.

However, IT specialists recommend creating a separate card for payments, transferring a certain amount to it, and linking this particular card to the Android Pay application. In this case, the account on the main card will be as safe as possible.

If you need to spend the whole day in shopping centers, charge Wileyfox 2 X once - and the capacious 3010 mAh lithium-polymer battery will keep the smartphone in working condition full day at maximum modes, including launching geolocation and mobile Internet.

Among the technical components of the smartphone, one cannot fail to note the high-quality 5.2-inch IPS screen with FullHD resolution, which recognizes up to 10 simultaneous clicks. It makes it incredibly convenient to install and edit various payment application settings.

Availability of smartphones with necessary parameters, the ease of installation of the application and the reliability of the system guarantee Android Pay the widest adoption in the foreseeable future.

The long-awaited opportunity to make contactless payments for Russian owners Android smartphones became available only six months after the launch of Apple Pay and Samsung Pay. The official launch of Android Pay in Russia took place on May 23.

Given the dominance of Android OS in the Russian market, Google will quickly occupy its niche in this area. How to use Android Pay, which phones support the service and what are the peculiarities of using the system in the domestic market, read below.

Requirements

To work with Android Pay, your smartphone must have Android version 4.4 KitKat or higher and a registered Sberbank card (or any other available bank). The service only accepts Google firmware with user rights and a locked bootloader. Developer version with root rights are deprived of the ability to work with Android Pay. Mobile devices without an NFC chip naturally do not support Android Pay. Also, the service does not work with the following smartphones that meet the above requirements:

  • Elephone P9000
  • Evo 4G LTE
  • Nexus 7 (2012)
  • Samsung Galaxy Note III
  • Samsung Galaxy S3
  • Samsung Galaxy Light

Another requirement for Samsung phones– for correct payment through the application, the Knox service must be disabled. Before using a payment terminal, the use of the NFC chip must be enabled in the smartphone settings.

The service began to cooperate with the largest Russian banks. These include Sberbank, Tinkoff Bank and Alfa Bank. WITH full list institutions can be found on the Visa website. Android Pay also works with the Yandex.Money e-wallet. The list of banks will be expanded in the future, as happened with Google's competitors. At the time of the launch of Apple Pay, the service was supported only by Sberbank and several other institutions; a year later, the list was replenished with six more items.

Which banks work with Android Pay:

Support for contactless payment by the terminal is indicated by a special Android logo on the device itself. In practice, most devices in all corners of Russia can work with NFC technology. The most popular device, VeriFone VX 820, is fully compatible with Android Pay.

How it works

First, you need to install the application itself and add a payment card from a supported bank to it. The card is confirmed after sending an SMS or by calling the call center. If the user previously had cards connected to Google account, they can be immediately linked to Android Pay. Otherwise, payment details are entered from scratch.

During payment, funds are debited from the card specified in the application by default (if several are linked at once). For purchases worth up to 1,000 rubles, it is enough to bring the smartphone with the screen on to the terminal, but after three such transactions confirmation will still be required. Large amounts will require entering a PIN code to unlock the smartphone.

Safety

The principle of data protection is practically no different from the similar payment service Apple Pay. The system is based on tokenization, that is, for each individual monetary transaction its own unique set of characters (token) is formed in the Google cloud. Moreover, for successful payment, constant synchronization with the “cloud” is not necessary, since tokens generated in advance are already stored in memory mobile device. However, in offline mode you can only make up to six transactions; then you need to synchronize with the server.

But the process of working with the terminal itself is slightly different from Apple. Owners of Android smartphones do not need to constantly keep their finger on the scanner during payment, since not every Google device is equipped with this same scanner. The main means of protection is screen unlocking, which already requires entering a PIN code, graphic code or the same fingerprint. If you try to disable unlocking in settings, Android Pay will automatically erase all payment card data for security reasons.

Losing a smartphone is not a significant problem. The possibility of contactless payment can be immediately blocked from any computer in the service Android Device Manager (subject to Internet connection).

Online shopping

Online stores can also take advantage of all the benefits of the service. To do this, just synchronize your work with the system by first adding a special button to your website. Information for developers is in open access on the website www.developer.android.com.

When paying for goods online, the buyer’s personal data is protected in the same way as when shopping in a regular store. By clicking on a special button, the user is automatically redirected to the Android Pay application, where he confirms the transaction.

Possible problems

The launch of Android Pay in Russia received a lot of negative reviews due to a huge number of technical problems, in particular with Sberbank cards. Firstly, Android Pay is not supported by most Chinese smartphones, this especially applies Xiaomi devices. So if you have a branded Chinese firmware– Android Pay is not yet supported on your device.

Sometimes, for unknown reasons, the connection between the terminal and the smartphone simply does not work. The problem can lead to disagreements at the checkout when the phone refuses the transaction and all the assurances “I’ve been using it for a long time, this has never happened before” will not help. So always carry cash or a payment card with you.

Secondly, many users encountered an old Google bug. During registration, the service requests postcode, and then gives an error after entering the correct numbers, since the system does not accept populated areas of federal significance. Residents of Moscow, for example, need to enter the zip code of any regional city to complete registration.

A fly in the ointment was added by non-working promotions launched just as Android Pay was launching. An official note appeared on the Moscow City Hall website stating that metro passengers will be able to travel for just one ruble from May 23 until June 23, and they must use mobile service for contactless payment. Then the news was edited, instead of almost free travel there was a 50% discount. However, no refund ever occurred; in addition, the offer itself only worked with Sberbank MasterCard cards.

The unpreparedness of large cities for the launch of Android Pay is not yet so critical against the backdrop of a total lag in the regions of the country. In many provincial stores it is difficult to find a terminal with contactless payment technology. In stores where theoretically you can pay via smartphone, employees sometimes don’t even know how to use Android Pay.

Results

Android Pay had every chance to squeeze out such giants as Apple and Samsung in the market. However, the disastrous start made many users skeptical about the capabilities of the system. Of course, Google will fix all the bugs and optimize the contactless payment process, but this will take at least another month.

Owners of smartphones who know how to use Android Pay should soon receive a well-functioning, polished service. The contactless payment market is developing very rapidly, thereby significantly increasing the convenience of making any purchase using your smartphone.
